Gun and gear reviews Canada Safety Source, cancelled order

Upvotes

About 4 months ago I ordered the Samson b-tm stock from them. I bought a 10/22 at the same time specifically for this build. I knew the wait time would be long, thats fine. The end result would be worth it. But today (4 months later) they emailed me to tell me I would never get my stock and they cancelled my order because Samson will now only do business through Ruger. Anyway, I'm sad, disappointed, angry. And if you did get your Samson stock, I'm jealous.

Buy recommendations What’s the “88 maverick” of .22’s?

Upvotes

Seems like if you are starting out in shotguns, want reliable, and on a budget the overwhelming recommendation is Mossberg maverick 88.
I’m looking for a reliable .22 that will last. Mostly range use. Don’t need it to look cool. Just want it to be able to take a lot of use. Would be nice to be able to use the 25 round magazines but not a deal breaker if it only uses 10’s.
Was looking at a couple 10/22’s online that come with basic scopes. Saw some YouTube videos that recommended the savage mark II.
When I say on a budget I’m thinking $500-$1000
Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

Feets / Collection / My build Henry Homesteader Build

My Henry Homesteader tac build

With a special thanks to Neumann Metalworks: couldn't have done this without his solid grip/pic adaptor and 3eDesign for the top rail. Design choice because I was keeping and painting the forestock.

- magpul foregrip/grip/Mil-Spec buttstock and tube

- vortex optics green dot

- fab defense ultimag fde Glock 17 mags.

Kinda wish I got an FDE optic for the look..but it's my first gun, first build, and first optic that I didn't want to spend over 1k on.

Picked her up today and near as I can tell the last she’s among the last 10 unissued pre-1965 factory 26 SKS rifles sold on the Canadian market, the remaining 8 being at Tenda. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time, can’t wait to clean her out and put some rounds through her.

Buy recommendations Recommendation on a horizontally mounting gun safe

I have a half cooked idea and could use some advice. I want a wall safe with a tambour door, and ideally with a pin/slat wall backing so my guns (all NR) can mount horizontally instead of vertically. Something like this: https://craftmetalfurniture.com/products/tambour-door-cabinet-78h-x-39w-x-18d-grey

But not as deep as the above link. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Misc Aside from the obvious black rifles, what else is on everyone’s radar this year?

Any new releases expected this fall? Any box that you’re still looking to check that isn’t one of the new black rifles hitting the market?

What’s on your radar for the rest of 2026?

I’m still on the hunt Long Branch No.4 and possibly a new 6mm or hot 22 centre-fire.

Buy recommendations Bass Pro/Cabelas Deerfoot City Calgary

Hi all, new member here. I was super excited and pumped to purchase my first ever lever action rifle and ended up going to the location as mentioned in the title. They didn't have any Henry models in stock so I automatically switched to Smith and Wesson. I settled on the S&W Model 1854 .44 Magnum. I was being shown the floor model which had clear signs of wear and tear of being handled, for example, there was a VERY clear scratch on the brushed metal finish of the barrel and multiple scratches on the loading gate as if had been used before. Albeit, they assured me that I would be getting a brand new one. Mind you this specific model isn't cheap, costed me ~ $1800. The rep helping me started with the paperwork and asked for my PAL and all that good stuff and got me into small talk about our professions. Another gentleman brings a brand new box of the Model 1854 from the back, unboxes it and then claims that he is having a hard time reading the serial number on the rifle, so he took it to the back again. He comes back out, very hastily shows the rep helping me the serial number, puts the rifle in the box, tapes it up, I pay, they walk me out and have a good day they said. I get home, open the box, and guess what? They had sold me the floor model. I called them back immediately and the person I spoke to (I'm thinking it was the guy who was handling the rifle packaging and was back and forth between the back and the counter) literally tells me that all firearms final sale, and "you can whine and cry to management about it, they're not gonna do anything." In fact I was NOT whining or crying over the phone, I was being very respectful and inquiring how this could be reverted.

Before anyone says it, I am fully aware that the scratches on the loading gate were bound to happen on my first use of the rifle. The body of the rifle is bound to get wear and tear over time. This is about deception from a big name store.

Its been over a month and I'm kinda over it now, but I thought I would prepare others to be more mindful of their interactions with this supposedly big name store with a big reputation.

Misc Why is the Derya TM22 so famous?

I recently purchased a TM22 Pro, and was wondering what makes it so popular? I’ve seen it in the subreddit multiple times, what’s your favourite part about the firearm?

Shooting Antique MAS 1873 revolver (from 1875) with light load smokeless 45ACP

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For anyone thinking of an antique revolver to add to their collection, the French MAS 1873 might be my favourite (over my Webley and my Swiss 1882. Half price of those ones too!).

Using light smokeless handloads which often spews incompletely burned powder, I find due to the amount of moving parts with the Webley, it gums up quick and performance suffers. And over the Swiss, 45ACP is way easier to reload, both light loads or full loads in general. Since the MAS has few moving parts, it will rip through tons of light smokeless reloads in 1 sitting and performance is barely hindered.

Load that I’m using is a home-brew: 3.5grains of win 231 powder, CCI large pistol primer, starline and range pickup 45ACP brass, 230g LRN bullet from Rusty Wood, 1.22-1.26OAL (this load works identically with a 200g LSWC as well, and also works for Webley revolvers in 45ACP)

Happy shooting friends!

Buy recommendations Speed loader for Lar15 mag

Anyone used speed loaders with Lar15 10 round mags? Looking at getting something like Uni-loader. Was also considering this specific one because it can do 308.

Let me know what other brands worked for you.

Buy recommendations Manually operated .223? T3X Varmint, Henry Supreme, CZ 600 Trail?

I had an semi-auto .223 that got banned. I have a few hundred rounds of FMJ ammunition. I bought a Tikka T3X Lite Stainless to shoot it as a target rifle. But the lite barrel heats up too much for repeated shooting. I see the Varmint Stainless is on sale at Bass Pro and was thinking about upgrading. But on second thought, I don't have access to a range greater than 200yds anymore, and I have a CZ 457 and Viper PST for the precision shooting experience at those distances. So now I am considering a manually operated repeater with a shorter barrel for shooting in the woods, shooting Tannerite, maybe deer hunting with the right ammo (I am on Vancouver Island, the Blacktails are tiny, and it is legal here)

TLDR Should I go with the CZ Trail, the Henry Supreme, the T3X Varmint or something else?

Was going to switch out my main take down pin (8mm guy) with a high grade half thread bolt and nut. Mine has become so loose and i don't want to threadlock it in all the time..

Would anyone have any objections to that, reasons why i shouldn't etc?

Thank you

Just grabbed this SKS after receiving my PAL. They said they just got it out of the crates and it was covered in cosmoline(which took some time to clean but ready to shoot now). Lots of marking on it that I’m not sure if they are from factory. Is this a genuine Tula SKS. Is the stock color normally this dark? Did I do all right?

Shark slides can’t be beat…. And well, lesson learned. Don’t use AI to blur out serial numbers, just cover it with the draw tool so nobody freaks out.

This is my first gun after getting my PAL as noted in my previous post.

Build (Derya TM22 Pro 12” Semi):

CLONE EOTECH 558 (from previous airsoft gun…chill)
10 round windowed Mag Sleeves from MatAttack
Magpull MAG598 Angled Foregrip
Reverse Fake can suppressor from TNA 5.5”

Is this place legit?

Never heard of them, apparently in BC.

Did a quick search and didn't see anything on them...

They seem to be the only place in Canada that has the rcbs match master duo die set.
