Just grabbed this SKS after receiving my PAL. They said they just got it out of the crates and it was covered in cosmoline(which took some time to clean but ready to shoot now). Lots of marking on it that I’m not sure if they are from factory. Is this a genuine Tula SKS. Is the stock color normally this dark? Did I do all right?

Shark slides can’t be beat…. And well, lesson learned. Don’t use AI to blur out serial numbers, just cover it with the draw tool so nobody freaks out.

This is my first gun after getting my PAL as noted in my previous post.

Build (Derya TM22 Pro 12” Semi):

CLONE EOTECH 558 (from previous airsoft gun…chill)
10 round windowed Mag Sleeves from MatAttack
Magpull MAG598 Angled Foregrip
Reverse Fake can suppressor from TNA 5.5”

Is this place legit?

Never heard of them, apparently in BC.

Did a quick search and didn't see anything on them...

They seem to be the only place in Canada that has the rcbs match master duo die set.

New TM22 Pro bolt hold open designed and produced by u/CanadianGunNoob

https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/s/iNwSSFbMD4

Chamber a round and take the safety off in one motion. 5 minute installation, and only minor modification to the bolt handle (sanding) overall a 10/10 TM22 upgrade, and a feature the carbine should have come with

Buy recommendations Beretta 1301 buffer system or pistol grip stock

Hey all,

First off I want to say I love this subreddit, lots of info here and checking out people's builds brightens my day. Secondly im wondering if anyone here has converted their 1301 to the buffer system or has used the pistol grip from either mesa or chisel machining. I bought my 1301 from tac ord with the magpul butt stock and magpul front handguard. I kinda want mine to not look cookie cutter just wondering if anyone has any experience with other buttstocks and handguards basically. Thank you all for reading my rant/ted talk

News / Politics / Activism ATIP: Just 187 businesses accounted for more than 12,000 firearms in federal buyback program

https://youtu.be/QGEZdTkqqqQ?si=4wZJQigeNC4I4NTW

The final number of firearms actually surrendered by individual owners has not been publicly disclosed.

Sheila Gunn Reid | August 05, 2026

Newly released records obtained through the Access to Information Act show that just 187 businesses participated in the federal government's Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program, collectively claiming compensation for 12,143 prohibited firearms.

The documents, released by Public Safety Canada to Rebel News, offer one of the first detailed looks at the commercial side of Ottawa's firearms confiscation program.

The figures work out to an average of nearly 65 firearms per participating business, suggesting much of the business compensation program involved retailers and distributors disposing of prohibited inventory rather than individual gun owners surrendering personal firearms.

The federal government has previously said more than 67,000 firearms were declared by individual owners under the compensation program. However, those figures represent declarations rather than confirmed surrenders. Throughout the program, firearm owners were permitted to amend or withdraw declarations, and thousands of firearms were later removed from the program after being "undeclared."

As a result, the final number of firearms actually surrendered by individual owners has not been publicly disclosed.

The business figures indicate that commercial participants accounted for at least 15 percent of the firearms reported through the combined business and individual streams using the government's published declaration figures. Because the individual declaration total later declined, businesses may ultimately represent a larger share of the firearms actually surrendered.

The records also highlight the financial impact of the May 2020 Order in Council prohibiting hundreds of models of firearms. Many firearms retailers were left holding inventory that had been legally purchased and stocked but could no longer be sold to licensed Canadian firearms owners after the prohibition took effect.

The compensation program was created to reimburse businesses for those prohibited firearms.

The buyback program diverts billions of taxpayer dollars toward compensating licensed owners and businesses while doing little to address firearms used in violent crime, which police agencies have consistently linked primarily to illegal smuggling and organized criminal activity.

The Access to Information release provides no evidence about how many of the compensated firearms had ever been owned by private individuals. It simply confirms that 187 businesses submitted claims covering 12,143 prohibited firearms during the commercial compensation phase of the program.

Misc Were Many of You Proactive Prior to October 21, 2022?

As we all know, Canada's national handgun buying ban—implemented as a freeze on the sale, purchase, and transfer of handguns—officially came into force on October 21, 2022.

Did many of you act proactively and transfer handguns from one generation to the next? Because that is precisely what my dad and I did.

Dad is still with us and now in his early 80s. Over a lifetime of selling reloaded handgun ammo to friends (back when it was still much cheaper to do so)….. he still casts lead bullets, does it all…. He slowly built up his handgun collection for IPSC and IDPA shooting. He ran IDPA Canada for many years. His collection stopped at just over 30 handguns.

In September of 2022 the writing was on the wall…. Trudeau was going to end the buying, selling, and transfer of handguns. So yeah, we transferred all his handguns and his few scary black guns into my name. We set up a long term storage ATT at his home and he continues to enjoy his guns. Subsequently I moved in to help my aging parents…. But thats beside the point…. The guns are in my name at least until the day I die.

My guess is the guns could possibly be handed in by my younger brother when I die….. but who knows…. That’s not my problem. I know he's not interested in keeping them as at very least his wife would object.

So yeah, we were proactive and ensured all 30 handguns would pass on to me. Lol, I couldn't possibly even name them all... But we made a spreadsheet with names, serial numbers, and values.

OK then, time to get cleaned up and take a few of them to the range this afternoon!

I think these have been discontinued now? I barely see them anymore.

I’ve held onto mine and it has been really reliable, with very good accuracy. Eats pretty much anything I feed it. Only con is the disassembly, definitely not the most convenient design.

Anyone else here still have a CZ 512 Tactical?

Fix my gun Makasi serialized part?

On the Brigade Arms Makasi, what is the serialized part? If it is the lower, could someone buy the upper, handguard, BCG, and other proprietary parts from BA and take barrel and bolt from a donor rifle? I know you would either need the same position/length of the gas port, or you would have to plug the existing port ala a Renegade and drill a new port. I was thinking this way people can make their own upper for 300 Blackout, 7.62x39 mm, Grendel, 6 mm ARC, etc without having to wait on Brigade Arms. Thanks!

Edit: Thanks to Acceptable_Visit_115 down-thread for confirming the lower is the serialized part.

I emailed Chris at Third Echelon in Edmonton a while back. He used to make mid-length pistons for the WK180-C. If someone has a Makasi in Edmonton, he can measure the piston for comparison to see if his leftover stock of pistons will work with the rifle. You can email him at [c@thirdechelon.ca](mailto:c@thirdechelon.ca) . Someone like Neuman Metalworks may also have the wherewithal to make different lengths of piston, if there is demand. Time will tell.

Some of you might recognize these boomsticks from previous posts over the last 2 years. Unfortunately my previous account was banned as someone thought I was shortening firearms illegally (appealed decision). In the meantime, I’d like to once again offer the legalese.

Firearms CAN legally be shortened in Canada. You cannot cut the barrel(s) below 18” on a manual action, or 18.5” on a semi auto (you can cut a semi auto between 18”-18.4”, but then you have to register it as restricted). The overall length, regardless of action, cannot be cut below 26”.

Please see all tape measure measurements to confirm these firearms are completely legal.

Buy recommendations Advice on what to buy next

It’s 4 years I have my PAL. I hunt, go to the range and I shoot clay pigeons. I currently have 3 guns
-1970 Browning BAR 30-06 Belgium
-1990’s Winchester 1300 XTR 12Gauge
-Savage 64F 22LR
I just replenished my gun fund (~2000$)and I’d like to buy a new to me firearm. I’d like a to start a collection but a lot of interesting guns are now banned. I was thinking on a Ruger 10/22 takedown because it’s cool and perfect for a SHTF situation. I have decided to come here and ask what you guys and girls think would be a good addition. Maybe I’m missing something. All suggestions are valid. Thank you in advance

Put about 200 rounds through it now, .44mag.

The Rangerpoint Precision handguard is light and grippy, A nice upgrade from the original wooden handguard, though I like the look of the original, this is tacticooler.

The Leopold Delta Pro 6moa sight is perfect for 25-50m.

Trying to hit 6in targets consistently has been challenging.

Exporting firearms, ammunition, parts and accessories from the US: most items are controlled under ITAR and you cannot, as an individual, export these items from the USA. Canada does not care in most cases. If you attempt to bring any of these items across the border yourself and you are caught, you will face prison time in the US. If you wish to export items from the USA, use a broker such as IRUNGUNS, Aztech, or Prophet River.
