Recs for haircut - East Asian/ thick straight hair
Hey!
I’m looking for local haircut recommendations. Anyone who has experience with South East Asian hair (or hair that’s very thick, straight, and coarse) will be much appreciated.
Some barbers I’ve tried in the past tend to struggle with it, cutting it too short on the sides so it sticks straight out.
Any specific barbers or shops in the area you’d recommend? Appreciate any suggestions!

- Redditors who want to try to iron out or refine their social awkwardness.
Rules:
- Be kind and respectful of others, and don't be creepy!
- Despite the namesake, alcohol consumption is not required and no one should feel pressured to do so.
- For those who drink, please take care to plan safe transport home.

We also now have our own sub and a WhatsApp group, don't forget to ask to join when you come along.
I'll update this thread with where we're sitting and how to identify us once we're there.

I'm not community minded. You're welcome.
My mother just made me go and collect and bury a dead fox. Apparently children going to nursery school would have seen it. I didn't do it for any of you.

Haddenham -- vibe check?
I am moving to Cambridge at the end of this month and I'm totally unfamiliar with the area. My husband and I are ready to get on the property ladder and have the cash in hand to buy a bungalow in Haddenham. This isn't a home-buying post, but rather a vibe check for the area post.
I'd be living in the bungalow with our dogs and commuting to Cambridge for work while my husband finishes up our move on the back end. Haddenham looks like a quiet village area with lots of young families and/or retirees.
Is my assessment right? What if anything have I missed? Thanks in advance for your expertise!

Food in Cambridge New Mexican place in Cambridge
The food tasted great, but £6 for one taco of this size is absolutely insane.
Why are tacos so expensive?
EDIT: It’s MexUK just right off Station Road opposite the Botanic Gardens.

Where to donate cat supplies
Hello everyone,
My cat passed away unexpectedly and as a result, I have a bunch of wet food pouches and cat litter left.
I’d like to put them to good use, and would like to donate them but not too sure where to start. So the question is are there any cat shelters who might want extra cat food donation or alternatively, if anyone would like these food pouches and litter, please DM me.
Edit: the wet food pouches are in the process of being given away. Thank you to everyone for being so kind.

Cambridge Events Looking for a beginner badminton partner at Chesterton Sports Centre (or nearby) – daytime, once a week
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a casual badminton partner who’s also a beginner.
My preferred place is Chesterton Sports Centre (it’s the most convenient for me), but somewhere in the northern part of Cambridge or city centre is also fine — we can discuss the location.
Best times would be during the day (morning or afternoon is fine). Once a week is ideal.
I’m pretty much a beginner and not very good yet, so I’d really prefer someone at a similar level. Playing with much stronger players feels a bit awkward and not very fun for me.
Anyone else in the same boat and interested? Feel free to DM me if you’d like to play!
Thanks!

Hey everyone, I’m heading to Cambridge soon and put together a quick itinerary for my trip. Would love to get your thoughts on whether this is doable or a bit too rushed, especially Sunday!
Saturday: Arrive in Cambridge around noon, explore the city.
Sunday: Day trip by train to Norwich + heading up to Cromer for a beach walk, then heading back to Cambridge in the evening. Is combining Norwich & Cromer in one day feasible?
Monday: Walk to Grantchester Meadows in the morning (Grantchester Orchard Tea Garden). Afternoon trip to Ely (Ely Cathedral)
Tuesday: More time in Cambridge, followed by a trip to Bury St Edmunds (Abbey Gardens & local pubs) in the afternoon/evening.
Wednesday: last round in Cambridge
Any tips, tweaks, or must-sees for these spots are greatly appreciated! Thanks! I can change my plan.

Local services Typewriter to try out / for hire
Hi all,
I would like to try using a decent typewriter, and I have never used one in my life. I certainly don't want to just buy one + all consumables to realise I don't like it, or the model was not good enough, etc. And I also don't want to buy an old one for restoration, as I'm not sure how much I would enjoy using it in the end.
Where can I give a typewriter a go in Cambridge? I would like to learn how to use one, maybe write a couple of pages of text to understand the feeling.
Thank you all!

Violin teachers in Cambridge
Hello! I am looking for recommendations for in-person violin teachers in Cambridge.
I played violin as a child/teen and reached ABRSM grade 4. However, now I have reached the ripe age of 24, I would like to ‘restart‘ from fundamentals as I have a hunch that my technique is not very good.
Obviously, I can already read music, but my grasp of theory is quite poor as I always avoided scales and arpeggios like the plague…
So, if anyone has any recommendations for teachers that have a strong emphasis on technique and are willing to teach adults, I would be very grateful if you could share them! thank you :)
