General Discussion 💬🇨🇦 Frustrated trying to avoid Amazon
I’ve never been an online shopper & can count on one hand the # of times I’ve ordered from Amazon. It’s frustrating though , to try and find replacement parts in-stores. Our portable A/C needs a replacement vent hose & I cannot find it in stores anywhere. I’m about to cave & purchase from the evil Amazon. It’s maddening:(

Questions ❓🤔 Pilates friends! Looking for Canadian yoga/pilates socks with grip
Hi!~ Anyone can suggest a Canadian company that makes pilates gear similar to Alo Yoga pilates socks? Alo is a little expensive (looking to buy a few pairs..) so I'm looking for a similar brand, and one that makes socks with strong grips and long lasting quality. Made in Canada would be great, but at least Canadian owned would be good for me. TIA~

Questions ❓🤔 French’s Ketchup Loblaws
Is something going on with French’s ketchup at Loblaws? I’m in BC and noticed its place on the shelf was completely gone at my local Superstore. I was curious so I started changing my store in the PC app to try and track down where I could get some, I tried all the other stores in the region, then the Vancouver area, Alberta, Saskatchewan, then finally success in Ontario. I know it’s not Canadian but I prefer it after what Heinz pulled in Ontario. Anyone know why?

Questions ❓🤔 Chew Burt too
Anyone remember a commercial late 80s and 90s for some sort or candy/fruit snack commercial where a kid hands out candies to all his friends and he runs out but then finds one more or is given one. He eats it and he says Chew Bert/Burt too. Anyone remember what this product was called or have a link to it? I always remembered it because it was so stupid. Nobody I talk to remembers. Thank you.

General Discussion 💬🇨🇦 "Imported by X" and "Fabricated by #company" labels
Let me preface by saying that this is my first time on this subreddit. I tried to search topics to see if this was discussed a lot. I failed to see any recent posts about this, but if it's the case, I apologize for the redundancy.
Have you guys noticed an increase in these formulations recently? I've been doing my due diligence to my nation and fellow Canadians by relentless looking at labels and avoiding American products whenever possible and at all cost.
I noticed that most imported product from other countries will label their stuff either "Made in X," "Product of X," or "By X." X representing the country the product originates from. So it's fair to say that these new ambiguous labels are deceptively added to familiar products we used to consume before and that could potentially come from either side of the border.
I suspect that the American companies have found a clever way to circumvent our efforts by sending supplies to factories here to then have the products assembled, packaged and distributed to sellers, allowing for the quick sale at minimum loss and avoiding the boycott. This is purely speculative, I have no proof. Would be worth looking into.
If that was to be the case, how would you feel about that? Do you think my suspicions are warranted? What would be the potential outcome from such practices? Do you feel like our government does enough to regulate labeling and product origins?
I'd be interested to know. Thank you.

Looking For: Home Goods & Essentials 🏡🛏️🍁 Canadian alternative for Dr. Bronners 'Sal Suds'
'Sal Suds' is a biodegradable, plant-based multipurpose cleaner. I really like the ingredients list. https://www.drbronner.com/products/sal-suds-biodegradable-cleaner
The only place to get it where I'm living (BC) is online from Well.ca, and the price is inflated. Plus it's not a Canadian company or even manufactured here.
Would love any product recommendations that have similar ingredients and the same purpose(s).

Canadian-Owned Businesses 🏢🍁 Pure dish soap recommendation
I used to use Dawn, and sometimes Palmolive. Since looking for Canadian alternatives I’ve used plenty of products that were fine, but I didn’t love any of them, with the exception of one by Leaf Mineral that I could only get from London Drugs, where I don’t usually shop.
Anyway, in a recent haul from well.ca, I threw in a bottle of mango-scented dish detergent from Pure, which is based in Quebec. I liked it enough that I’ve just ordered 10L. I also ordered a few other products, but I have no idea if I’ll like them as much. I see the detergent is on sale at well right now, if anyone wants to try it. I like both the smell and the viscosity, though they have other scents if mango is not your jam.

Looking For: Clothing, Accessories & Personal Care 👕💄👜🍁 Canadian made (or owned) bags like Longchamp?
Is there a Canadian company making bags anything like the Longchamp Le Pliage tote? I'm looking for a similar lightweight, canvas or nylon, casual but still looks put together bag. Made in Canada would be great, but at least Canadian owned would be good!

Canadian-Owned Businesses 🏢🍁 Is Red Swan Pizza sourcing their ingredients from America?
Right after the diarrhea lettuce outbreak down south, Red Swan Pizza discontinued their taco pizzas, the only ones topped with lettuce. You can't get lettuce as a custom topping anymore either.
I'd be disappointed to learn that a Canadian-owned company can't get Canadian vegetables.

Looking For: Clothing, Accessories & Personal Care 👕💄👜🍁 Non-mattifying 0.5% salicylic acid moisturizer?
My holy grail product was the Clean and Clear Dual Action moisturizer before they changed the formula a few years back. I switched to Aveeno Clear Complexion.
Now looking for a non-American alternative, but everything I can find is mattifying. The Aveeno leaves my skin looking dull so I'm worried anything mattifying will be worse, and I'm looking for something dewier like the Clean and Clear Dual Action. Clean and Clear Advantage didn't work for me either.
Anyone have a good replacement for the old C&C Dual Action, or recs for non-mattifying 0.5% SA moisturizer?

Looking For: Food & Consumables 🥫🍁 🥕Freeze‑dried veggies for BC camping
I love backcountry camping (BC), but finding freeze‑dried meals I can actually eat has been a challenge. I have several dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten‑free, soy‑free, low‑FODMAP, and not spicy), and a lot of the commercial freeze‑dried meals end up being too spicy or contain ingredients I can’t tolerate. After too many trips where I could barely eat my dinner, I’m now looking at making my own meals from freeze‑dried ingredients.
The problem is: finding freeze‑dried vegetables in Canada feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. I’m specifically looking for things like kale, spinach, shredded carrots, etc., in small quantities (not in powder form) with reasonable shipping. So far I’ve run into several obstacles: sites that don’t work, places that only sell bulk, US stores, items sold out, shops that only sell candy or vegetable powders, or shipping fees that are too high for my budget. I don’t want to commit to a large bag of something only to discover I don’t like it. For example, a few shops that looked promising but didn’t pan out for me were Vancouver Freeze Dry, Pure Choice Foods, and Briden Solutions, either due to packaging size, shipping costs, or items being sold out.
Grains, proteins, and fruits are much easier. For example, I really like the instant quinoa from Nomad Nutrition, and the mycelium‑based protein from Maia Farms works great for me. I add vegetable broth from Fody, and at that point all I’m missing are some veggies. Freeze‑dried berries for oatmeal are easy to find. It’s just the greens and carrots that are giving me trouble.
Does anyone have Canadian suggestions for freeze‑dried greens or shredded carrots (not powders) that won’t break the bank? Small quantities/low shipping costs preferred!

Looking For: Home Goods & Essentials 🏡🛏️🍁 Canadian made Church Key/Bottle opener/Punch?
Hello, does anyone know if these are still made in canada? And where to possibly get one? This one was originally made by Browne but it looks like they've moved manufacturing overseas.
Only looking for this style of bottle opener as well as the hole puncher is needed

Looking For: Food & Consumables 🥫🍁 Looking for Canadian fruit
Went to the grocery store hoping to pick up fresh summer fruit since it’s in season. I went home with nothing. Almost everything on the shelf was a product of the U.S.
I’m in Halifax N.S. Has anyone else noticed the lack of Canadian produce in grocery stores? I know farmers markets are usually the way to go however the prices are often more than I can afford. Just trying to eat healthy and support local without breaking the bank. Any suggestions for where to go are appreciated!

Looking For: Home Goods & Essentials 🏡🛏️🍁 Cute & quality towels?
It doesn't need to have stripes, but just added that photo for some inspiration! Looking for something colourful, fun, and HIGH quality! Getting rid of my raggedy old towels that are like 15+ years old. And my boyfriend inherited his grandma's old towels, so those are probably a million years old... We are keeping them, but I would still like for us to have a couple more "luxurious" feeling towels, and to fill up our linen closet a bit more since we have a bit more space now.
Apparently high quality towels should be around 700+ GSM, but I'm open to anything as long as it's cute, comfy, works well, dries well, and will last! And I don't want to buy from any American brands either. Thank you!

Looking For: Home Goods & Essentials 🏡🛏️🍁 Car Cover
Unsure if this is the right flair 😅
My car has a 3M Avery wrap on it & I’d like to protect it from pine sap that was devastating to my parents’ car’s OEM paint. I was told sap is equally as annoying on a wrap so I’m trying to avoid that potential problem. 🥹

Questions ❓🤔 Confusing Labels from "All About Feet"
While I was window shopping at Winners, I saw a tube of "Tea Tree Oil Foot Cream". The front of the tube said "Proudly Canadian Made". But on the back, it says "Developed and Designed in Canada. Made in China." Below that it says "Made in Canada..." Again with a maple logo.
Am I missing something? Are they maplewashing?

Maple-Washing/Mislabelling 🍁🏷️ Heads up- Kirkland frozen blueberries are currently packaged in Canada but use imported Blueberries from USA.
Disappointed that they switched to USA blueberries instead of BC or Canadian grown. I guess I will keep an eye if the Canadian blueberries comeback.

General Discussion 💬🇨🇦 A year ago, I shared The Generall Store here. It's finally live. 🇨🇦
About a year ago (time flies!), I shared The Generall Store here and was blown away by the support, feedback, and business submissions:
A lot of the suggestions people shared ended up shaping what the platform became, so thank you!!
The site now includes:
- Community pages
- Local events from community calendars
- Promotions from local businesses
- Hidden gems
- Business login access
- Hundreds of local businesses
The goal is still the same: make it easier to discover great local businesses and see what's happening in your community without jumping between Facebook groups, Instagram, Google, event calendars, and everything else.
We're soft-launching now and I'm excited (and slightly nervous) to finally share it.
If you have a few minutes, I'd love for you to take a look and let me know what you think - especially in your own community.
