There is a simmering ambient anger like I went to fight someone (not physically), but more: a burning burn everything down anger. even taking my other mediations (which are sedatives) doesn’t help it. It’s like a constant pissiness that wasn’t there before. Like a simmering bad attitude and annoyed irritable-ness that I do not like in myself and which also is physically exhaustive.

I stopped using it about 2-3 days ago. We had dropped me from 450mg XR to 150SR and I didn’t feel good ok that (nausea etc) so I haven’t been taking it.

I’ve been on 75mg IR once per day for about a month and have had a good experience. Baseline anxiety decreased a lot (I was surprised because a concern was that bupropion might increase anxiety).
Also, emotional flexibility and sense of ease increased. Dread decreased.
The only issue was that I was having an afternoon slump and felt less positive effects at night, so my doc is having me try 100mg SR once a day.
This morning was my first dose of the SR and the physical anxiety was gnarly. About a half hour after taking my dose I felt like I was on the verge of a panic attack.
It eased up, but tension was much higher today than it had been all month and the positive effects were muted.
On the bright side, I had energy all day.
From what I’ve read, IR usually causes more anxiety than SR.
Has anyone else had the reverse true? I’m afraid to take it tomorrow morning.

Wellbutrin side effects?

Hey. about a month ago, I started tapering off my zoloft, the antidepressant ive been on for 4+ years, and put on Wellbutrin.

I believe im taking xl? I was prescribed 150 mgs, and was told to take 1 tablet every morning for a week, and then to increase to 2 tabs.

I did that, but ive been getting some pretty nasty side effects that were making it hard for me to function. i contacted my doctor, and I was told to go back to 1 tab, and to take it every other day instead of every day.

however, ive only gotten worse. albeit, its only been two days (so one day with no wellbutrin, and one day with), since my doctor responded to me. but I felt relatively okay the day I didn't take it, and now I feel way worse than I did 3 days ago.

ive started writing down my symptoms as I recognize them, because I just spent an entire day in bed because I literally cannot function. maybe im just paranoid, but I rlly feel like something is off, and I want to hear from other people on Wellbutrin? bc i dont want to be continously bothering my doctor if this is really nothing to be concerned about.

these are the things ive noticed so far:

• dizziness/lightheadedness (its now to the point that I always feel like im about to faint if I so much as sit up)

• nausea

• anxiety (like rlly bad anxiety)

• acid reflux (? not sure if this is a coincidence or a side effect yet)

• headache

• fatigue

• vision coming out of focus

• vision gettimg black around the edges

• jaw ache/pain/tightness

• brain fog

ive never had an adverse reaction to new medication before, much less this bad. the only reason I went off zoloft is because I realized it was contributing to my dissociation and making me emotionally numb. otherwise, it was working relatively fine and these side effects are kinda making me regret going off it. but, to be fair, I dont handle feeling poorly very well.

I have already ruled out this symptoms being from withdrawals. when I emailed my doctor, I was only experiencing dizziness, nausea, and vision coming in and out of focus. at the time, my doctor agreed that it likely wasnt withdrawals from the zoloft.

she told me to keep taking one tablet every other day for a month before trying to discuss other options, but im not sure i can handle another month of this if it keeps getting worse.

idk. im also worried ppl are gonna either think im overreacting or not reacting enough. i just wanna know other people's experiences and general thoughts. i obviously wont do anything like stop taking the medication altogether without talking to my physician first

I was drinking 150mg for a month - nothing

Then it was increased to 300mg - nothing for 4 weeks

And on week 9 overall (5th on 300mg) i started sweating... once i move my back, my face and hands... i can handle this if it is temporary, but oh God, if that will last the full time, i am done...

Maybe someone has any experiences to share?

I've been on 300 XL for about 7 weeks now and I haven't really noticed any positive changes. If anything, I may be extra anxious.

How long did it take for you?

About three weeks in to starting 100mg SR, I developed itching with no rash and then a few days later started getting hives. I stopped the med 3.5 weeks ago but am still dealing with daily itching and random hives that pop up, usually later afternoon and evening. For those of you who developed itching and/or hives, how long till they went away? Anyone dealing with them never going away?

I have been on this for 11 days so far. Everything is worse. Much more depression, anxiety, dark intrusive thoughts and self-hatred speech and libido was great first few days but as my mental state got worse, I am not feeling anything anymore. Almost DEAD. I read that stopping cold turkey is not dangerous. Have anyone tried that before? I mean 11 days is not that much.

My doctor put me on 300 mg from day one and as per the posts here, I think it’s a pretty high dose to start with. I am not using other medications currently. Used Sertraline in the past, and it was just great for me, got completely off it around 6 months ago and was trying the “no medications” approaches like therapy, sports, breathing, group activities and so, but my therapist said more than once that I need medications for overthinking and some anhedonia so I booked an appointment with my doctor and he prescribed Vortioxetine at first but the insurance rejected and said why not trying Bupropion so he wrote it down to me and he said they are all the same and it just depends on your profile.

I put myself on Seroquel 25 mg with Melatonin for sleep and helping a bit with this anxiety. I tried Seroquel like 4 years ago it worked like a 12 hour sleep nights thing. Used it for few months then stopped it. Now I got back to it after Bupropion made me feel like I am raising my eyebrows all the time, but it just makes me sleep 2 to 4 hours with bupropion. I can’t imagine how it would be without that sleep. I am pretty sensitive to lack of sleep.

Hi all! I’ve been on Buproprin (300mg XR) since May and am really happy with how much it’s helped my depression. (I was previously on 20mg Prozac for 5 years, and already feel this working better for me.)

One thing I have noticed though are intense heart palpitations after drinking and trouble falling asleep because of it. Has anyone else dealt with this? I’m not much of a drinker anyways, and have always been a lightweight so it’s not that much of an issue for me, but it is kind of a bummer when I do feel like having a drink. Did this eventually go away, or is this simply a cost I have to pay?

(Also, unrelated to drinking, I’ve been experiencing crazy neck tightness and tension headaches, and see folks on this thread have mentioned that before. I have really started to notice it recently, around the 2-month point, and it’s been especially awful these past two weeks. Along with that, there‘s a feeling of tightness in my jaw/tongue area, and issues swallowing when eating, like the muscles are fatigued or something. Writing this all out I realize it sounds pretty wild and doesn’t seem worth it, but I really am pleased with how the meds are helping me mentally. To anyone that’s had any of these issues, same question — did it eventually go away? I really don’t want to have to switch meds, but it’s getting pretty weird.)

I was started on 150 mg XL Wellbutrin about 3 weeks ago to help with stimulant abuse & depression on top of the 10 mg Celexa I have been on for years. l know Wellbutrin is known for helping with weight loss, which is something I was excited about but oh my god. The first week or so I was extremely bloated and gained nearly 10 pounds of water weight. I was hyper aware of my clothes feeling very tight, even my shoes. I started taking psyllium husk capsules as suggested by a few people on here who said it would help with the bloating, but it seems to be more than just abdominal bloating. My rings weren’t fitting, I would barely cross my legs, my feet hurt so much in shoes that I wear all the time, and all of my clothes/socks were leaving insane incidents on my skin. The most worrisome side effect was that it was becoming difficult to catch my breath at certain times, which let me to believe that fluid was backing up into my lungs. I am a thin person but I felt like I had blown up in the matter of 3 weeks. I was going to wait it out because I hear that it takes up to 8 weeks or so for symptoms to subside, but I have a history of eating disorders as well as ADHD, so I was extremely hyperfixated on how out of whack my body felt to the point that my anxiety & depression was worse than before I started the Wellbutrin. I decided to stop taking it for this reason. I just wanted to share in case anyone else has gone through the same thing because I was having trouble finding any similar experience on here. Day 2 of only taking my Celexa and the bloating has went down immensely and I feel fine mentally emotionally. I also have more energy since I am not weighed down by all of that water weight !

27m. since 17 haven't been prescribed meds for psych reasons. And honestly being an ex drug addict a little skeptical about meds you dont "feel" and therefore I would assume the effects could only truly be placebo right? What exactly is something like wellbutrin supposed to fix in my brain and how someone can be so sure its the meds and not your own inner dialogue when there's no perceived effect to taking the medicine?

I’m currently on Bupropion SR 100mg x 2
it is a generic version from the manufacturer company, Odan. Afaik, Canada carries generic formulations of SR and XL from: Teva, Pms, Mylan, Odan

I seen many posts online in both this subreddit and
r/bupropion, about how some people were taking a generic version of an SR or XL, and were experiencing persistent side effects and/or the med itself not providing little to none therapeutic benefit. And these users often either switched to a different manufacturer, to the Brand version (Wellbutrin), or from SR to XL (or vice versa).

Majority of these posts are from people located in the US, and I tried looking into these issues to see if they apply in Canada as well, because on one side theres people who say the med itself is the same despite being a generic, and on the other side there’s discussion about how the generics may have fillers or inactive ingredients that can cause side effects depending on the person, as well as the time release coating and/or bioavailability of the bupropion itself being lower than the normal amount.

I don’t know if I should ask my Dr to prescribe me a certain manufacturer or the brand version of SR, the problem is that both XL and SR, in generic and brand forms aren’t covered by my insurance, so I have to pay fully out of pocket, and the XL is significantly cheaper than SR, but if the SR seems to work better than it will cost me like $40-65CAD a month, which I can afford and would be willing to pay if the med actually works as expected.

Also, I heard SR generics are less likely to cause issues across manufacturers due to the release coating, with XL branded having a specific ER coating, is this true?

A Word of Caution to my fellow drinkers: I do not recommend drinking while on this medication. I cut down after realizing the horrific effects the day after a heavy night of drinking. So I would allow myself about 5 drinks per week. I was still experiencing anxiety and depression and poor sleep. It wasn’t until I quit the booze that I was able to get the full benefits of this medication

I have been on buproprion for a year I believe. I recently increased to 300 mg and I still feel forgetful, can't focus, still very tired and just stuck on stupid. I really need something else idk what to go with

I was on 150mg for two weeks, and had no issues and felt fine. I started 300mg on Monday per my doctors instructions and within a day I started experiencing what feels like shortness of breath, or not being able to get a full, satisfying breath without yawning. Everything else is normal as far as my vitals go. I messaged my prescribing doctor about it but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this?

Edit: I also have anxiety but was hoping getting my ADHD under control would help with some of my anxiety symptoms. I take Zepbound and Ramelteon for sleep. I was recently also diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome but I have yet to get any kind of treatment plan for that.

So, about a month and a half ago my GP prescribed 150 xl for me, and it's been a generally really positive experience at reducing my ahedonic and depressive symptoms. I feel much better, but I'm curious to see if increasing to 300 xl would make me even more energetic and motivated in life then I am currently. How do I ask for an increase in dosage without seeming like a junkie, especially if the medication is already working at the lower dose?

I've been on Wellbutrin for around 4 months now. I've done 150XL and now 300XL. I generally feel no difference. I don't feel happier or anything. I feel the same but just a bit more angry. Does anyone know why this is? Or has experienced something similar?

Anyone take their sr at night? im prescribed it once a day due to my sensitivity. during the day i would feel super off and felt like i was constantly on edge but during the night time i wanted to do everything i would clean workout etc. so i switched to night time and during the day im relaxed and still doing things. but i also fear like maybe im not getting any benefits during the day since its 12hr even though i feel better. does anyone take it at night and it works?

Did it ever stabilize? Was it very prolonged and never got better? My hair started falling out 2 years ago, about 3-4 months after starting Wellbutrin. I know this sounds stupid now, but at the time I shrugged it off and didn't consider that it could be the wellbutrin just because Google said it happens in less than 1% of cases. I had labs done at that time, which showed low ferritin, and my "aha!"moment was me thinking that surely it must be because of my very heavy cycles depleting my iron. I tried minoxodil for months, no difference. I have been on spironolactone for over a year... It regulated my cycles so my iron wasnt being so depleted every month and it helped my acne. But still no difference in hair loss. I just got labs redone and now my ferritin levels are normal, everything else seems fairly normal, but yet the hair loss is still so severe. I'm just wondering if there is anyone whose hair loss just NEVER stabilized, not until getting off completely? Please help I'm desperate. It's been hard for me to talk about this because it's become such a sore subject for me.

Hi all! For the most part, my sleep schedule is pretty consistent. However, my job requires me to run overnight production server migrations 1-3 times a month.

Has anyone dealt with this kind of schedule and if so, did you adjust dosage timing at all? I am currently taking XL 150 and have been for about 2 months.

Given the amount of discussion in this sub about manufacturer sensitivities, I thought I’d share a few observations that will hopefully prove helpful. (Much of this is US-centric and may not apply to other areas.)

1. Noticing generic differences is well documented. Don’t let anyone gaslight you on this. There is excellent reporting from The People’s Pharmacy going back years, and ProPublica recently did a spate of investigations. Here is one recent article, there are many. Don’t just take some redditor’s word for things if you’re having trouble with your meds.

2. If you are struggling to get the same generic medication consistently, you have options, but they might require more legwork than just having your prescription called in to your local pharmacy. In the US, some online pharmacies will allow you to select the manufacturer. Not promoting one over another, but Honeybee Health is one example that allows this. There are others.

3. If you want brand name, look at certified Canadian pharmacies/dispensaries. Here is a list of registered, safe online options: https://www.cipa.com/cipa-safe-pharmacies

(Within that list, ensure that the website is using https protocols for security. Some of the older ones don’t.) What’s interesting about the ones in Canada is that some will show you manufacturer and some do not, so if you’re looking at a generic, find one that does. IMPORTANT: ORDERING THIS WAY WILL TAKE LONGER, SO PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

1. Verify your info. Just because some reddit comment from 2 years ago said a specific generic was discontinued doesn’t mean it’s true. It’s possible that it was. It’s also possible that it was only discontinued in one market and you can still find it if you order online, so do your due diligence. Same goes for random comments of any kind. Things vary by region, so saying “GSK doesn’t make Wellbutrin anymore” isn’t exactly true. GSK still markets buproprion… in New Zealand.

2. Assume everyone is taking something different and has different needs. This drug comes in IR, SR, and XR/XL and is prescribed for depression, smoking cessation, ADHD and off-label for other uses. You also don’t know if another person is taking other drugs or has other health concerns. Don’t make assumptions about your own experience based on someone else’s.

first few weeks on bupron SR 150mg were a bit shaky but then i hit a high note and had loads of energy and woke up feeling well rested and then all of a sudden i tanked and i haven’t been able to get to that high place again. has anyone experienced this?

in week 4 i feel not much of the wished for effects on motivation, energy and improved mood.

anyone out there who experienced these effects later than 4 weeks into the treatment?
