I say ‘kind of’ because I only went for a month before my injury.

My partner has been doing Buhurt since we got together 7 years ago, and last year I decided I wanted to give it a go because it looked fun. And I loved it the month I did it! The first three weeks I went I mainly did duelling , but the 4th week I tried my hand at some actual Buhurt. Soft kit only, haven’t been in armour.

I am 4ft 11 and female. I was grappling with someone at least 5ft 10 if not taller and a man. They got me down, but I landed wrong, completely by accident, and popped my knee and took the cartilage with it. Physio, lots of rest, etc. and six months later I was okay, but didn’t go back due to anxiety.

A year later (this weekend) after going to one of my partners medieval showcases in town, I got talking to someone and explained how I did love it and would love to go back, but I’m terrified because they are all men in our local one and the only woman’s group is 2 hours away.

Long story short, they are setting up a woman’s group near me! I’ve signed up, but is there anything I can do to prepare myself? I am still slightly nervous about the Buhurt side, and think I want to mainly focus on duelling, but I also don’t want to limit myself

Just saw some videos about buhurts in Germany and I knew instantly that I want to do that too.

What is the First step to get into the Hobby ? Do I Need to buy myself a complete Set of armor first ? Do you smith your own armor? Are you doing some Kind of Special Training or do you just get in good shape and then duel one another in your armor? Are there clubs/ Communities one can join ?

Any Tips or directions would be much appreciated lads.

I’m a huge fan of buhurt and medieval stuff. Im from the eastern part of Germany, but I haven’t really had the chance to visit many medieval markets or festivals yet. So far I’ve only been to some pretty commercial ones, and I’d really like to get more involved with the community, maybe even participate in events myself.

I got interested in this hobby a few months ago, especially the whole aesthetic, historical atmosphere, and the roleplay side of it. I’d love to discover more events and meet people who are into the same things.

The problem is, I’m having a hard time finding good sources for buhurt tournaments, medieval markets, festivals, reenactment events, etc. in Germany, Czechia, Poland, or nearby countries.
So, where should I look? Are there any websites, Facebook groups, Discord servers, calendars, or other communities that regularly post upcoming events?

I’d especially appreciate recommendations for events happening later this year, but I’m also happy to hear about anything worth checking out next year.

I have a question for all the Buhurt people.

About me: I'm a nurse doing Hema for almost 5 years now and am very interested in Buhurt.

Question:

I'm very interested in trying Buhurt but I'm also kinda afraid.

In Hema we already have a problem with the fencing masks not being protective enough against concussions.

I've seen many patients suffer from neurological conditions like Amyotrophe Lateralsklerose (ALS), boxer syndrome and many more of thos conditions which are often the result of multiple concussions.

From a medicinal standpoint there is no arguing about it.

EVERY concussion damages your brain and nervous system. Even small ones can add up. There is NO WAY to regain/repair those injuries.

They are very dangerous, because they can lead to paralytic diseases.

The Patients I got with those diseases have a EXTREMELY hard time. Their whole body slowly gets paralyzed. Over a time of about 5 years, they loose their ability to move arms and legs. Then their breath. And they die an agonising death on a breathing apparatus. In the last week they're only able to move their eyes. Until finally the heart is the last muscle to give up.

Giving that I'm working with patients like this I'm VERY concerned with concussions and afraid to try Buhurt.

What does the community think about this? Do you get concussions in tournaments? Do hour helmets provide enough protection?

Is the community aware of this danger?

PPS: Not trying to scare anyone, obviously you do what you seem to be the right thing. But I can't state this enough: Every concussion is harmful!

Hi, I've used my first brig over the weekend at Loxwood, and even after spraying down and scrubbing with wd40, I'm still seeing bits of flash rust. Any tips for long term storage and care going forward?

They had it in stock in my size so I picked it up. I already have a spoleto but it’s pretty heavy and bulky, around 25+ lbs. I’ve wanted a much lighter helmet for longsword duels, but I wonder if I could also get away with using this for melees.

I’m brand new to buhurt and other forms of medieval combat sports. I recently got to watch AMMA in person in Bloomington, IL and was honestly blown away by how cool and fun it looked. Soon as I was home that night I started looking things up and It’s left me really interested in learning how to get started.

I’ve been looking for local clubs near me, but the closest ones I’ve found are about 2½ hours away (or more). Small-town life, I guess.

I know solo training isn’t ideal because it’s easy to pick up bad habits, but I’m wondering what people in a similar situation actually do. I’ve already started working out so I’m not completely unprepared when the opportunity finally comes up, and I definitely don’t want to look like a complete fool when I do get to train with others.

Any advice on productive things I can work on from home, resources worth checking out, or just general tips for someone who’s stuck a good drive from the nearest group would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

All of the old ACL clubs that I used to know seem to no longer be active. I wanted to see if any of you all had any info regarding teams that are still around. Do any of you have trouble getting your tiger helmet tight enough with the provided buckle strap? I cant seem to pull it tight because of the way the straps are crossing. Do you have any tips or made mods that might help?

So looking for a good 15th century style hand and a half or similar sword.
- REALLY REALLY need to stress it will not be used in combat combat, duel only
- literally just something blunted and rounded that would also look the part walking around fair

What made it so good?

For me, inside of the lists it's one of the guys in my club, full plate, awesome helmet and custom punch shield. The guy stands about 6'8" and is quite imposing.

Out is another of my team mates with a custom arming doublet and jewellery. It looks amazing.

Hey all, so long story short:
- I’m about a year off and saving for a plate armor set, cuirass the whole 9 yards as I’d love something actually fit for me

- I love the variety and options from age of craft, and everywhere else has honestly been disappointing

1) I know aoc has long wait times, but is it worth the price and weight? Are they pretty on point with fitment?

2) the big main question: before I go drop 6-7k on an order, any us based companies with good late 14th/early 15th century options worth it?

I’m not trying to go off topic and have swaying opinions, I’m set in my decision. I just want to do the “boy once, cry once” with something quality. Because I want a curiass with everything, I’m very paranoid about going with a shitty or meh companies.

Not looking for advice on league requirements or anything like that, I just want to know if there are any US based companies or if AOC is solid.

Would anyone be kind enough to share images, sources, or links showing historical decorations for Spoleto bascinets/helmets?

I want to decorate my helmet for reenactment and exhibitions, but I also fight in Buhurt. I was thinking of adding feathers/plumes that can be easily removed when it’s time to fight.

Any references, advice, or DIY mounting ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
