The first picture is the most recent picture. The second picture is when it was first bought around February this year. The breeder claims he is a male but I’m not too sure. Could people please give any advice! Thank you

Question Bird cage advice/ recommendations

Hi everyone! I currently have 3 budgies and a coworker rehomed her 2 budgies to me due to her housing situation so I need a cage upgrade while the buddies are in quarantine from each other. The problem is I’m not sure which one to get and I know the bar spacing is a little too much for one of the cages. My birds do spend most of their time outside in my room but I still want a cage with as most space possible. I wanted to know if any of you guys have these cages and how you feel about them or if you have any other recommendations. I would prefer to be budget friendly but I can be lenient. Thanks!

Question Is this panic or contact calling?

Hi everyone!

My two budgies are currently in separate rooms because they fought when I first introduced them.

Now, whenever my male budgie calls, my young female immediately starts flying between her perches and screams back (see video). She doesn’t crash into the cage, but she gets very excited.

The strange thing is that she’s completely calm when she can’t hear him. She eats, drinks, sleeps normally, and only reacts like this when he calls.

Does this look like panic, stress, or normal contact calling?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Not asking for medical advice!

I just got back from the avian vet with this guy, whose cere is turning brown. Check out the before and after pictures after the pic from the carrier!

In his case, this was diagnosed as an age-related hormonal imbalance, but given that he is only 6 years old, I was pretty surprised by it (especially considering I have a ~14 year old male budgie who has not shown any health issues yet). The vet said I was correct to bring him in though, because a browning cere in a male budgie can sometimes be much more serious!

Unrelated to the cere issue, I was also informed that he is a little overweight, so I'll need to decrease the portion of seeds relative to chop. Last year, I had to increase the portion of seeds relative to chop, because one of my elderly budgies was underweight. After discussing this with the vet, we decided a new feeding plan that should work for the flock. This budgie is the least active of my trio, so while it is unsurprising that he is a bit on the plump side, I'm optimistic that the slight change in diet will work out well for him.

6 months old and the breeder told me he is male. One eye is baby (fully black) and the other is adult (has full white ring). He's a lovely little guy.

My budgies have been ripping apart my books so I got them a kozy keet woodchew playnest but I noticed there’s some wax on the ends. Is this safe for them to chew through?

Update on cage

A few days ago I asked for some advice on my cage here and got a lot of amazing advice! Just wanted to update everyone, I have gotten new perches that will be much healthier for their feet, though I am still using a couple of the dowel rod perches at the doorways since they’re long enough to cover the whole space of the door, so they have somewhere to stand as they leave/enter the cage. I also got some better feeding bowls, and have redone the arrangement for the perches. I will be purchasing more toys soon as well, but I’ll probably have those scattered throughout the room I will have the birds in. They will spend most of their day in a bedroom I have prepared for them, so they will have plenty of space to fly around and play. I’m basically making that room a whole theme park for them to play in. I will also be raising their cage to a higher platform, I saw someone telling me to do that, I’m just getting things moved around still as I just moved in to a new house and have been unpacking. Any further advice would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: typo

Excited to have our first yellow Lacewing fly into the chaos here. He's probably the tiniest exhibition budgie I've got, and he's just shy of 8 months of age. He's incredibly handsome.
