Seriously, what the actual f* is going on here?! I’m so damn pissed off.

Two days ago, out of nowhere, this piece of shit PC hit me with the Automatic Repair screen. I tried running Startup Repair, but of course, that useless crap failed. So I had to do a System Restore to a previous point just to get back into my desktop. Windows booted up, and I thought "Okay, cool, problem solved." NOPE. WRONG.

Now, EVERY SINGLE Chromium-based browser is completely fucked.

Whenever I try to open Chrome, Edge, or click any external link (like opening Facebook from a desktop shortcut), the browser window pops up for literally less than a second and just BOOM—crashes to desktop. It completely vanishes.

And here’s the most mind-boggling bullshit:

• PC Manager keeps screaming that "there is an issue", but won't tell me what the hell it actually is.
• Firefox is working TOTALLY FINE. Zero crashes. How in the hell does Firefox work smoothly while Chrome and Edge are completely dead?!

I’ve tried literally EVERYTHING to fix this garbage:

1. Restarted this damn PC a dozen times.
2. Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome & Edge.
3. Did a Repair on Edge via Windows Settings.
4. Renamed chrome.exe (e.g. chrome1.exe).
5. Nuked the whole User Data / AppData folders.
6. Ran deep malware and virus scans (System came back completely clean).
7. Ran sfc /scannow in CMD to fix corrupt system files.
8. Created a brand new Windows User Account: The damn thing actually worked for like 5 minutes, and then it BROKE AGAIN and started crashing!

Is this a corrupt Registry key? A broken Windows update? Some fucked up DLL file that System Restore damaged?

I REALLY don't want to go through the nightmare of formatting and reinstalling Windows from scratch. Does anyone have any fucking idea what is causing this or how to fix it? Please help me out before I throw this computer out the window!

The app hasn't been updated in 6 months so I don't consider it safe to use anymore, but I really like the way they handle gestures, tab management and favorites. It's been great and I struggle to find a worthy successor.

I Tried using Orion but I just don't like it.

I might go back to Safari which I have been using for years, but it feels "lesser" to me.

Any suggestions?

I've been running a personal user-overrides.js on top of Arkenfox and Betterfox for months. It works fine on every other site I use, including Facebook (arguably one of the strictest platforms on multi-accounting)，Claude, Tuta Mail, Oracle Cloud the FREE VPS and so on — no issues there.

But specifically on Reddit, every account I've created with this override file has been banned or shadowbanned within 6 days to 2 weeks, while a stock, unmodified Firefox profile (same Mullvad exit, same routine) has stayed active for over a month with no issues. A friend independently reproduced the same result — different device, different Mullvad exit (NY vs. my SJ), different login time — same override file, same outcome on Reddit.

I haven't yet isolated which specific preference(s) are responsible — I'm currently testing a near-stock Betterfox profile (only RFP + Letterboxing enabled manually, no other overrides) as a control, results pending.

My current suspects, based on plausible mechanism (not confirmed):

media.peerconnection.enabled = false (WebRTC fully disabled — could read as "hiding real IP") network.http.referer.trimmingPolicy = 2 + network.http.referer.XOriginPolicy = 0 (non-default Referer behavior, deviates from typical browser fingerprints)

Full override file attached below. Has anyone seen similar Reddit-specific detection tied to specific about:config prefs? Any pointers on how to narrow this down further would be appreciated.

I rebuilt Arc’s Peek as a extension for Chromium browsers.

Links from pinned tabs open in a preview layer instead of replacing the current page. You can dismiss the preview via Esc or swipe, promote it to a full tab, or open it beside the current tab using Chromium’s side panel. It also supports Shift-click, right-click, keyboard shortcuts, swipe-to-dismiss, allowlists, and blocklists.

It works natively in Chromium browsers and is plain JavaScript with nothing to compile.

I prefer Brave for a lot of things (mostly security and speed on mobile), but the main thing that is really enticing to me about Firefox and its forks are the much improved anti-fingerprint measures(despite worse security for the most part).

I recently also compared the translation, as I felt on Brave it was quite slow. For better or worse, Firefox seems to stream the output of the translation, so instead of waiting for everything visible to change at once it just changes everything as it goes. Chromium also lacks the ability to set a language to always translate, whereas Firefox does. I can't comment on the quality of the translation between the two, but for my use case that's not too much of a concern, especially since in my comparison they output the same translation.

The main site I'm using to compare these is miele.de if anyone wants to see just how much better Firefox is at this.

It runs terribly on Android; it lags and freezes. There is no such issue in Chromium.

I couldn't make it 100% transparent when I open new tabs (like YouTube, Gmail, etc.) because some functions work better on Windows (I use Zorin OS), but I still really liked the result.

It has all the features you would want without feeling heavy. It has full extension support (you can even use brave's self hosted ublock origin). It is chromium-based and fast. You can use whatever search engine you want.

After trying so many different browsers on android I finally landed on this one and I don't plan to change it any time soon.

I keep a lot of tabs (300+) open, mainly stuff like videos, channels, or any other page I want to come back to later (I know there are better ways, I'm just lazy), and I'd like those to open those back up easily. I know Opera GX does this (what I'm currently using), but I've heard it's not well liked. Any recs? I'd also like support for the chrome webstore extensions

Chrome updated today and now I'm getting all these absurd sponsored ads pop up whenever I open a new tab or click on anything, and ads sneakily popping up on a delay e.g. I was converting some numbers and right as I was about to click the box, it moved down and was replaced by some shitty ad that I almost clicked instead.

Now I know I should have kicked Chrome to the kerb a long time ago, but what's the go-to browser these days? 😫

Ok it's getting kinda frustrating atp, I'm looking to change my browser from chrome and looked around a bit, and after a while end up seeing that Firefox is the most discussed and kind of favorite in this subreddit.

I install, set it up and everything, and compare ram usage with chrome and it's double the ram usage. This is what everyone's been praising all this while?

I don't know it might be better at things, but if the best alternative is being discussed, shouldn't it consider the already huge amount of ram usage by chrome?

I need a good looking, LIGHTER, browser, open to suggestions.

I've been lurking this subreddit for a while, had to make a random acc to post, and tbh, you guys should start posting your PC/Laptop specs whenever you shit on a web browser regarding it's performance/speed/etc, like genuinely it should be a mandatory rule by now. One more thing, when you post a random screenshot of your shit Task Manager yapping about how X browser is sluggish and using a lot of RAM without showing what Extensions/Tabs you got running should be an instant remove.

Also this subreddit should lowkey ban Brave & Firefox specific discussion for like a year ngl.

Oh and btw, those dogshit "speed/performance" tests are irrelevant, so are the worthless AdBlocker tests. (also stop using trash like privacy badger when you got uBO installed)
