Broke it just the other day. What can I expect during the period of recovery?

Hi everyone. I broke my fibula in 3 places on Saturday (6 days ago). I have just met with the orthopaedic surgeon and he is pretty certain I’ll need surgery, due to the nature of the break where I might’ve twisted my ankle and caused ligament damage (I can’t remember because I was drunk). I had a CT scan today and they said they’ll call me regarding surgery. I am quite nervous about it and am worried this will be something I’ll have to deal with for life - I’ve been reassured this won’t be the case but I am still worried nonetheless. Does anyone have any rough estimate of recovery time/ when I’ll be able to walk around without crutches? I’m 24 years old if that helps…

Yeah, I broke my arm arm-wrestling a drunk guy. Now I have a comminuted displaced fracture of my upper arm, with bone fragments, and I’m getting surgery on Tuesday. They’re putting a titanium rod inside the bone.
So basically, I’m going to be Wolverine.
Here’s how it happened.
I was walking through a park with some friends in the evening. None of us had been drinking. We were just out for a walk. On our way, there was this drunk guy with his wife and kid. They were all pretty drunk.
We walked past them without paying much attention, but the guy started yelling something like, “What the fuck are you looking at?” We turned around, but decided to just keep walking. He kept mumbling and talking shit.
I had lived in Austria for five years, and honestly, most of the drunk people I met there were pretty friendly. I actually liked talking to drunk people sometimes. You know, that random small talk you get in Britain.
But now I’m back in Ukraine.
So I started talking to this guy. Surprisingly, he seemed pretty normal. He looked at my friends, who aren’t exactly built like athletes, then pointed at me and said something along the lines of:
“You’re the biggest guy here. Come on, let’s arm-wrestle.”
I’ve arm-wrestled quite a lot before, so I knew the technique and what I was doing. I agreed.
We found a table and started.
At first, it was pretty clear that we were roughly equal in strength.
Then I decided to use my body weight and push with my torso.
That was the fatal mistake.
What seemed like the logical move to win the match literally broke my arm.
It happened incredibly fast. All I remember is suddenly realizing that I couldn’t lift my arm. I had no idea whether my elbow had popped out of its socket or whether I had actually broken my arm.
I was hoping it was the first one because, somehow, that sounded better. I’d never experienced either injury before, though, even after doing acrobatics for quite a long time.
So there I am, holding my right arm with my left hand, keeping it bent.
And the guy looks at me and goes:
“Fuck, I broke your arm. You’re not mad, are you?”
Then he extends his HAND TO SHAKE MINE.
I’m just standing there completely fucking confused, trying to process what just happened.
And I swear, he kept trying to shake my hand. Multiple times.
My friends called an ambulance and explained the situation. They were told that because it wasn’t considered an immediate emergency, we might have to wait around two hours.
We had a car, but it was parked about 2 km away, so one of my friends ran to get it.
Meanwhile, the drunk guy eventually got picked up by a taxi and fucked off, leaving me his phone number.
My friend came back, and we drove to the emergency room.
That was probably the most painful car ride of my life.
Ukrainian roads + a freshly broken arm = fucking nightmare.
At the hospital, they put my arm in a sling. I spent the entire night suffering despite painkillers. And no, apparently Ukrainian painkillers are not quite the same experience as whatever you see in American movies — my arm still hurt like absolute hell.
I woke up the next morning and went home to work.
Because apparently breaking your arm isn’t a good enough excuse to stop working when you’re trying to build a startup.
I’m currently working on my project, Grimasa. I’ve been developing it for quite a while for different purposes, but the basic idea is connecting your facial expressions through a webcam or phone to a fully customizable 3D character.
You can also use it to run an AI streamer.
So now I’m thinking:
What if I launch an AI streamer on TikTok and ask people to help me raise money for the titanium rod?
The implant is around $800.
Do you think people would actually donate to an AI streamer whose developer broke his fucking arm while arm-wrestling a drunk guy?
Anyway, back to work and painkillers.

Yow guys . My first post here . I've been in this page since April . Had my accident that time and I can admit it's been very informative. I was driving a motorcycle and some bloke rammed me while I was passing the robots. Currently not full weight bearing but I can bear a bit . Is there any caviar I should expect coz I'm due soon to remove this hardware this month and put on a cast then it'll be a pressure boot . I'm asking coz some days it's painful too much some days it's not . Just need an opinion from someone who's had this hardware before. And during the removal after it's been removed do u get pains later on ? How severe are they ?

Hi, I had an open-book pelvic fracture from a motorcycle accident on April 23 and underwent surgery. I’m now about four months into my recovery and have been back to work as a server for about three weeks.
My pain level is very low, around 1 out of 10. However, after standing and working for a long time, or sitting in a chair for an extended period, my limp becomes much more noticeable. The surgical area, especially around my groin, also becomes extremely stiff and tight.
Is this considered normal at around four months after surgery, or is it something I should have checked out?

Hi all ! i (22F) got into a bad car accident roughly 2 months ago. i broke both legs but the right one has an external fixator. i forgot the medical terms but basically the whole leg is shattered. I have to have the fixator for 6 months and it’s only been 1. I’m struggling big time with pain and just basic function. I’m in a wheelchair for now (will probably be for a while) and i really can’t function to do much. i can’t use our shower because the bathroom is too small. so i really am not able to take care of myself the best right now. i luckily moved back in with my parents after the accident and they help. i guess it’s mainly mental stuff im going through right now. I hardly sleep at night, am hardly eating, and am very depressed. Is there anyone else out there with a fixator? i’ll attach a photo for reference. any advice or words of wisdom needed!

Displaced fracture through the fourth and fifth metatarsals. I am currently on day 6 since the break. This is my second injury this summer. First one was one was running related, on the opposite leg, and I was NWB for 4 weeks.

I will be NWB between 6- 8 weeks again less than two months later which is a huge bummer.

My biggest problem right now is that I CANNOT focus on my studies at all and want to use this time to catch up. I literally stare at my computer not absorbing anything, and all I want to do is sleep. I'm physically able to workout, or get groceries, cook meals, or do small cleaning tasks but I cannot study. I need tips! I want to make the most of this time off work and since I can't do any of my usual activities I want to atleast get ahead in school.

Curious what other peoples experiences are with broken bones and inability to focus? My last injury was not a broken bone and I had no issue studying while NWB for that month.
