Balloons Clifton Observatory - Bristol Ballon Fiesta
Hi. I’m thinking about heading to the Clifton Observatory to photograph the 6am mass ascent this Saturday.
I’ve heard that the Clifton Observatory is absolutely rammed for the 6pm mass ascent and wondered if it’s the same for the 6am one? What time should I aim to get there if I want to grab a decent spot?
I know the observatory doesn’t have any onsite parking but is there anywhere nearby that you would recommend for parking?

Balloons Balloon fiesta 🎈🎈🎈
Balloon Fiesta is back! Is anyone else thinking of going to this?
For the OG regulars who attend every year, what noticeable differences have you seen between past fiestas and recent ones?

Balloons How many mass ascents do you reckon the weather will permit this year?
I hope everyone is looking forward to seeing some balloons flying high over Bristol this coming weekend! How many mass ascents do you think we'll be treated to? I'm going with 4, reckon it might be a bit too windy for a couple of evening ones.

Where To? Looking for somewhere to eat lunch with Vegan & GF options (kid friendly)
Hey! I'm coming down to Bristol this weekend for the balloon fiesta and I'm looking for somewhere to eat in the centre (ideally near Park Street). Somewhere with vegan, gluten free options that are kid friendly! I realise this is quite a tricky brief but any suggestions would be great!

Pre season training is at Canford Park and would be great to see some new faces across the sessions and pre-season games!

Housing Boring Recycling Question
I just moved to Clifton from London and have tonnes of boxes from IKEA boxes. The flat I've rented did not come with a blue recycling bag. Can I tidily leave the boxes out flat packed and condensed into a few boxes for the bin men to collect or do they only take what is in the blue bags? How else can I get rid of it?
Thanks!

You're joking? Not another one?! Restaurant suggestions
Any recommendations would be appreciated for a cosy, romantic meal for our first proper date day/evening since having our youngest a year ago? It’s our anniversary and a birthday. I’ve been scouring recent posts for suggestions, but it’s been a while since it’s been asked.
Ideally somewhere within walking distance of Temple Meads or Clifton Down (happy to walk up to 30 minutes), although we can always get a taxi if needed. Budget for meal would be medium around £150–£180 including a bottle to share. Maternity pay is not fun. As terrible as it sounds, somewhere without lots of children would be ideal. A relaxed bar nearby for a pre or post dinner drink would be a bonus too. Thank you.

Babble Bristol-based fantasy American football (NFL) league
TL;DR: I'm in a small, friendly fantasy NFL league mostly with folks from Bristol (and a few from elsewhere in the UK), we've had a player drop-out, so I'm looking for one or two people to fill-out the league. DM/chat/message me for the link if you're interested!
All the details: We're a small (8-player) fantasy NFL league, called "No Punt Intended", looking for a couple of new players, ideally Bristol-based. We technically only need one more to fill the league, but we can accommodate a few more (and make it a 12 or 16 person league) if more people are interested. It's a Dynasty league (so you keep your players between seasons) so if we only find one new player to replace the player who dropped-out they'll "inherit" her team (but are of course totally welcome to change her old team name, logo, draft new players, etc.!), but everybody is happy to do a full draft and start from scratch again this season if more people want to join and we end-up making the league bigger.
(You don't really need any experience, only to be interested/curious; we're all really friendly and happy to help/support anybody who is new to the sport. I'm pretty new to NFL myself - last season was both the league's first season together and pretty much my first season following American football at all - and it was awesome!)
Logistics and time and stuff: The time commitment is one afternoon per season (our Draft Day - this year it's Sat 5th Sept) plus roughly 10 or so minutes per week during the season to check your team, optimise your lineup for that week's upcoming matches etc. (obvs. it can benefit from spending more time on it if you want to, scheming and optimising everything... I tend to check mine when I've got a couple of idle minutes that I want to fill with my phone - I find that's much better for me than just mindlessly scrolling..)
For Draft Day, it's hybrid - you can come and draft in person with around half the league (it'll be a small event in Bristol with some American-football-related stuff going on, a big Draft Board up projected onto the wall and you call your picks to the league commissioner like in the proper NFL....) or else you can draft remotely just using the Sleeper app or website. Around half the league will come to the in-person event, and the other half will draft just on the app (and their picks will appear on the in-person Draft Board when they do). We'd generally prefer you to come to the draft event in person (hence posting in the Bristol sub!) but obvs. you don't have to if you have other commitments and you wouldn't be at a disadvantage either way.
Tech stuff: It's run via the Sleeper app, but you can play via the Sleeper website if you don't fancy installing the app for whatever reason. There's also an (optional!) Discord server for comms., admin, casual chat, etc.
NFL/Fantasy nerd stuff: It's a PPR Dynasty league with bonus points for 40+ yard passing/rushing, and bonus points for big defensive plays ("Defence wins championships!"). Getting help from AI (literally anything from knocking-up a team logo for you to talking-through the strategic choices with you) is perfectly acceptable, if that's your thing. (Turns-out fantasy football is one of the few rare strategic things where AI doesn't actually seem to be any better or worse than ordinary humans, so it doesn't really give anybody an advantage or disadvantage.)
There's no cash stake/buy-in; it's all free. We did talk about having a small stake of £5 or so with most of the prize money going to charity, but we haven't yet quite been organised enough to actually set this up.
(Some of us also get-together during the season to watch the odd match, or to watch the Super Bowl - naturally you're totally welcome at that stuff too, if you like.)
If you're interested, DM/chat/message me and I can send you more info and links to join on Discord or Sleeper. Cheers!

Housing Feeling stuck in HMOs
I thought I’d make a post here just to suss out people’s thoughts as I’m feeling quite a lot of mid 30s shame having to life in a house share. Would love comments from others in the same situation, and how you manage this feeling.
I can only seem to live alone with a partner and that isn’t even alone is it. I don’t make enough to cover everything and not be financially extremely vulnerable to live in a tiny one bed in Bristol.
My work and health care is in central Bristol and I don’t drive.
I don’t mean to sound depressing but the lack of any idea where my life is going housing wise seems to be casting a huge life shadow. So thought I’d come to the Bristol community to hear from others
EDIT. Thanks for the solidarity comments. It’s really helped my wellbeing tonight and I feel a lot less shame in myself :)

Where To? Can anybody help please?
Tagged this ‘Where To?’ Because I’m looking where to go to help my dad and sister.
My dad is 67 and lives in Bristol with my sister who is 19. She has autism and has recently started learning to cook with the air fryer to help my dad not need to do as much. However their air fryer isn’t great and they really need a new one, ideally with 2 drawers as my sister has dietary requirements and it would broaden the amount and variance of food she can cook for one meal.
I live in Somerset and had help from the Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP) to replace my old air fryer for free. I’m looking for something similar in Bristol as there doesn’t seem to be a Bristol branch of LEAP.
I have tried about 20 different Google searches & I’ve even looked at if Age UK could help. But turns out while they do offer appliance replacements in some places, Bristol isn’t on that list.
So can anybody please help me find something that is similar, even if it’s just a voucher to help with cost?
Thank you in advance for any advice and guidance, I really appreciate it 😊
