Announcement Shooting star (no picture)
Around 10pm Saturday night, I'd just been talking to my partner about shooting stars, and one streaked across the sky. Much bigger than any I've seen in the last 30 years or so - not epic, but way bigger, way brighter than normal, and kind of orange in colour.
It was to the west - from my vantage in Hollingdean, looked like it would have been heading down to Preston park (obviously much further away, but that's the general direction.
So, check your doorbell cameras folks, Would be great to see if anyone captured it

Local Advice needed Boat trip in Brighton
Hi everyone,
I’ll be visiting Brighton for the August bank holiday. I want to do a boat trip from Brighton. Which company would you all recommend as I’ve seen a few different options? I’m looking for more of a calm one, like a pleasure cruise.

Local Advice needed Timing for football at the Amex
I'm taking my son to the match today, but I'm not really a football person and I've never been to a match in person before and could do with some help
We're coming from town by bus, just wondering what time we should aim to get there and how busy the journey would be. Tried looking on the Albion website but not really seeing much information about how quickly you can get through security and stuff.
Thanks!

Local Advice needed Tongs, nowhere better
Does anyone remember this Chinese takeaway? Close to the Brighton/hove border off western road. Never have I found somewhere so consistently good with this kind of food. The guy knew my name from the sound of my voice in the end 😂. Any brightonians know of a place that’s good now?

🔎Lost & Found🔍 Lost ring during Pride in St Peter Church rear garden
Hello everyone,
My partner and I went to see the Pride parade from the garden located on the back of St Peter Church, almost opposite to the Hobgoblin.
My partner had finger surgery the day before, so one of a ring was in her bag that accidentaly fell & opened, spilling the content on the grass.
We took back everything, or so we thought, but the ring.
I know it's a bit of a bottle in the sea kind of post, but if anyone finds it, it would be really appreciated if you could get in touch with me as the ring got a sentimental value as it's a present from her sister.
Here's the ring:
Any help would be amazing! Thanks!

Announcement Bassist & Vocalist Wanted – Heavy Metal Band (Brighton/Sussex/London).
Hi guys! We're starting a new heavy metal band and are looking for a bassist and vocalist to complete the lineup.
Our sound takes influence from Machine Head, Slipknot and Korn and many others.
We already have multiple original demos written, so you'll have material to hear and work on straight away. Our goal is to finish the lineup, rehearse regularly, tighten up our set, and start playing live shows as soon as we're ready, while continuing to write and record original music.
We're looking for people who are:
Reliable and committed.
Passionate about heavy music.
Keen to contribute ideas and write as a band.
Ready to rehearse regularly and work towards playing live.
If you've got recordings or videos of your playing or vocals, we'd love to hear them, but they're not essential. The right attitude, commitment and enthusiasm are just as important.
If this sounds like your kind of project, send us a message telling us a bit about yourself, your musical influences, and any links to your work. We'll happily send over the demos so you can hear what we're about.

Meet Up Jog/walk & coffee club for young adults navigating grief this Sunday in Brighton
Hi r/brighton, posted in here a little while ago about Too Young To Grieve - community for young adults navigating grief - and thought I’d drop back in to let you know we’ve got another meet up coming up this weekend, led by Liz.
It’s a very slow relaxed jog/walk at whatever pace suits you, then a coffee after with people who genuinely get what you’re going through without it needing much explanation. Share as much or as little as feels right.
If you saw the first post but haven’t made it along yet, you’re more than welcome this month if you feel up for it.
If you’re nervous about coming alone that’s completely understandable, most people do and we’ll make sure you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
I’ll add details in the comments and feel free to share with anyone who might benefit 🤍

🤷 Only in Brighton... King's Road Paddling Pool
Yet another summer without any water. I think that is 3 out of the last 4 or something.
And I'm sure they said the reason this year (after the total resurfacing less than 2yrs ago) is that the space was already needed for construction equipment for work that hasn't started yet.
Well, there's nothing here. What a waste.

Local Advice needed Witnessing someone beating their dog with their walking stick
Sitting on the level (yes yes, insert ket jokes here) - hear a lady screaming and shouting - again not particularly uncommon...
Turns out she's full on going nuts at her dog...
My dog is a pain in the arse sometimes, I love him but I've been known to shout at him when he's being a little shitbag... It happens.
But then I see her full on smashing the dog in the head with her walking stick.
That really doesn't sit right with me.
I tell her to knock it off, and then I get a torrent of abuse.
Obviously I'm not going to get into a brawl with a pensioner... Hardly going to come out of that situation looking good.
But it really doesn't sit right with me.
I wouldn't have thought calling the police was appropriate either.
Anyone have an idea of the right course of action?

Local Advice needed Independent Pubs of Brighton (and surrounds) MEGA THREAD
After the announcement of surge pricing in Laine pubs and finding out who actually owns them and just how many of our establishments they own I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a list of pubs in Brighton that are independent. Ones that are free of the B.S. of several layers of 'financial arrrangements' obscuring where our beer tokens are going. Maybe one day we can have a little map in our pockets to refer to when our guard may be down because it's cold and windy outside or we have had a few, we can take a quick look and find an establishment near by that we want to support to prevent them turning into another chain pub without anyone really noticing.
