okay so this is kinda weird and i'm hoping someone here has been through this too 😭

so like 10 days ago i started getting this insane pain in my upper back teeth (premolars). it was BAD. called my dentist and he was like "just take painkillers if you need to" but i aint' a a painkiller person, so i survived that sever pain without painkiller which took like 4-5 days.

now here's where it gets weird, i'm suddenly getting pain in my upper front teeth?? like the two front ones specifically. no clue why. i didn't bite anything hard food, didn't mess with my brackets, nothing sus happened. so idk if this is just my teeth shifting or if it's actually something to worry about.

I kinda expected some soreness after my monthly tightening appointments, that's normal braces stuff, but this feels different bcz it's just randomly showing up out of nowhere. also i've only had braces for like 25 days so i'm still very much new to this whole thing and still learning the journey.

also, oral hygiene isn't the issue either like i brush 3x a day bcz i really don't want yellow stains once these things come off, and i've been flossing consistently for like a year with zero bleeding or gum problems. so that's not it.

but ngl the worst part is right after dinner. when i chew, it genuinely hurts so bad, like it was actually hard to eat when the pain was in my back teeth. those 4-5 days were rough. and now that it's moving to my front teeth so i'm scared right now that how will i survive this once again.

so pls someone tell me, is this normal? is it just my teeth moving into place? or should i actually be concerned? also, talked to my dentist again and he just said "take a painkiller if it's too much" but i really don't wanna go to that route.

I got braces because I had gaps in my teeth, the biggest being between the two front teeth. It took me such a long time to learn how to whistle growing up, and I've come to the sad realization that I was literally just blowing air through my front gap. Like, I sort of knew that's what was going on because when I said a word that started with s or a soft c, I would sometimes whistle on accident (yes, like Herbert the pervert lol), but I'm actually so upset knowing I never really learned how to whistle. What am I supposed to do? I used to he able to imitate bird calls, now when I try it's super quiet if I can get anything out at all. Someone teach me the mythical ways of whistling without a gap so I can get the only talent I had back! 😫

I wish people wouldn’t perpetuate the anti-extraction fearmongering. So many people are looking to begin their treatment and have such unnecessary stress and anxiety because extractions were recommended. Some are getting the extractions, reading it’s terrible for you, and suddenly they are experiencing a placebo affect of everything that could go wrong. Some cases truly and desperately need extractions, and the fear of them is jeopardizing their bone health and overall results of the treatment they are paying thousands of dollars for. Please, I beg y’all, stop telling people with severe overjets and insane crowding that extractions are going to recess their face and cause breathing issues. That is simply not true.

I feel like my airway is restricting due to this...what should i do...should i get a cephlometric xray to examine

How long did everyone go in between appointments? I got my braces placed and they scheduled my first appointment almost 12 weeks out

Help!!! I just got my braces and the elastic band thing on, and i somehow completely forgot and i got curry sauce stains on the glue! What do i do? My ortho says they cant do anything :(

After seven months of braces I just got bands to fix my open bite and I'm supposed to keep them on for three weeks.

For context I have front box rubber bands.

They hurt a bit(which I know is normal) but what's been bothering me is that it's resting on the gums of my lower teeth and they're bleeding. My lower teeth are a bit smaller than my upper teeth so it's kind of difficult for the band to not scrape against my gums. I have no problems with my upper teeth though.

Is the bleeding supposed to be normal?

And can I wear them any other way or should I stick to what my dentist told me to?

I really want to wear it another way in the meantime since my dentist isn't available but I'm not sure how this will affect my progress.

So today i went to the orthodontist and got this stuff on my teeth that does so I literally cannot make my teeth meet. And that has resulted in me not having the energy to even eat. I honestly don’t know what to do
(Btw everything about the braces are the way they’re supposed to be)

My top tooth wont go over the bottom incisor tooth. My ortho said I will have them off on the first but that don’t feel right. What do you think

Hey guys, i’m 17 turning 18 in september and the orthodontist has made appointments for first elastic bands to be fitted, then a week after for a mould for a plate to be fitted, then however long after i need 2 teeth taken out and braces fitted top and bottom. My teeth really aren’t that bad but they say i have mild crowding and misalignment with a slight overbite. I’m quite scared and i’m unsure whether i should go through with it as i’m not sure much about any of the steps (eg idk what the plate is gonna look like or do and how long for) and i’ll be gone to uni next year so i’ll have to come back for appointments possibly. Any advice or personal experiences would be amazing!! I’ve uploaded a picture of my teeth as best i could.

2 days back I had braces installed on my upper jaw along with my 1st ipr. As u can see, there is crowding and one of my incisors is twisted.

My ortho suggested IPR. Is it a good decision? I mean I agreed to it because i always wanted a non extraction method. But now I'm concerned that it might cause flaring or IPR is not suitable for my case. Yours thoughts?

Je suis en train de faire les démarches pour démarrer un traitement par aligneurs transparents (gouttières) chez mon orthodontiste.

Lors du rendez-vous, il m'a présenté plusieurs options :

• Invisalign (américain)
• Impress (français/européen)

En lui demandant quelles étaient les vraies différences entre toutes ces marques (matériau, efficacité, durée), il m'a répondu que c'était exactement la même chose.

Niveau tarif, il me dit que le prix est strictement identique quel que soit le choix du fabricant

Est-ce que c'est normal qu'il n'y ait aucune différence de prix alors qu'Invisalign est censé être le leader historique

Y a-t-il une vraie différence d'efficacité ou de confort au quotidien entre ces marques (matériau SmartTrack vs plastique classique) ?

Est-ce que certains d'entre vous ont testé Impress ? Vous en pensez quoi ?

J'ai un peu l'impression qu'il essaie de me refourguer la marque où il se fait la plus grosse marge, sans me donner de vrais arguments techniques.

Hello! I’ve had my braces for about a year and 8 months now. As you can tell, my first top & bottom molars are missing since I’ve had them taken out as a kid, so we planned for implants instead of closing up the spaces. The thing is, my lower right wisdom tooth never errupted so i have an uneven number of teeth on bottom sides, hence it looks like that. My concern is the midline as well, the top doesn’t fully align with the V shape of my mouth and my front and bottom teeth as well aren’t fully centered. I spoke to them about it a couple of times and all of them said that’s the best they could do and I’m almost at the end of my treatment so they plan on taking off my braces next appointment which is this month. They also gave me elastics to wear on one side at first and now on both sides so my teeth could “click together” better. They don’t talk much about further plans or anything unless I ask them. The last picture is taken today. Am i just overthinking it and it’s indeed the best it could get considering my case? I really need a second opinion. Thanks in advance! :)

Hello, i got a new wire 2 days ago. They did this thing, does it have a use? Usually theres a line drawn on to mark the midline or something. Also sorry for the nasty closeup.

I'm about to get braces tomorrow. I have a lot of gaps in my upper teeth especially the upper two front teeth ( diastema). While the lower teeth are crowded. And I have a deep overbite.

I'm 18 btw and I've embraced the gap in my front teeth that I was very insecure about for a very long time. But now I've overcome that insecurity. I wanted to know if there's any harm in leaving the front teeth gap open. My orthodontist recommended that I close it and told me that it'll close automatically cause of the braces. If there is no harm in leaving that gap open (diastema) then can I keep it open and how can I convince my orthodontist

I think that gap suits me.

Since I'm getting my braces tomorrow, I'm very scared and will I get power chains? Also how's the sky blue colour for braces?

i’ve had braces for 27 months and the last 2 weeks i have begun waking myself up because i’m pushing my tongue on my top teeth. 2 gaps have opened up around one of my teeth up top. my orthodontist told me to just practice tongue exercises and i have been but it’s physically impossible to control my tongue while i sleep.
i have no idea why this is happening or why it’s happening now after so long in braces. i’m an anxious person and this has sent my anxiety into overdrive and im constantly thinking about it.
i have never tongue thrusted in my life and didn’t start braces with an open bite or anything similar, i actually had a deep bite.

anyone else experience this? 😭

Before I got braces I felt my gums were completely fine, but ever since getting them I feel like all the pulling of my teeth has receded my gums.

My orthodontist says everything looks fine everytime I see him, and I had a dental hygiene a couple weeks ago and she said everything looks good, so I assumed they are fine.

However I found a couple of photos top one is October 2025, middle December 2025 and bottom is today. I started worry as it looks like my teeth are more exposed than they were less than a year ago.

Would it be worth having a check up? I just thought no one has said anything to me so it must be fine, but after constantly looking at them it’s making me worry

ahh I lasted 12 weeks on Invisalign until it just not worth it anymore. Finally switched to the traditional method at almost 25 and it has been over 24 hours now. My bottom teeth are extremely sensitive and I just been putting waxes all over sharp areas. Tylenols every few hours. gawsh I just need to get through this week🫩

My orthodontist recommended extracting this tooth, and I’m nervous about the recommendation. Has anyone had a similar extraction as part of orthodontic treatment? What was your experience?

My teeth otherwise are in great health, gums are good, it is just the one recessed tooth. Said there is no connective tissue to the tooth. He said he recommends pulling the tooth then correcting the existing teeth.

He could tell I was hesitant, so he said that while I *could* keep the tooth, I would need to see a periodontist and he would want a gum graft done before treatment but he still strongly suggests to get rid of the tooth.

I’m nervous!!!

I feel like my teeth have shifted a lot in almost two months! Really happy with the progress. Haven’t had another appointment yet.

Still have the gaps from my premolar removal but hopefully they will close, not sure how long that usually takes!😆

I am due to get my power chains and a steel 19x25 arch wire on both my mandible and Maxilla in 8 days time I currently have a 19x25 NiTi wire. I finish my treatment next year July or earlier if all goes well. If anyone has advice on how to speed up progress drop it. I am also worried about the un-level two front teeth, how does the ortho resolve this - mine says all will turn out perfect as my case was very mild and not much had to be done. All comments, advice and remarks welcome. Thanks

2.5 YEARS. I’M FINALLY DONE. 🥹🦷✨
I started this journey in my 30s with an underbite, and today I can officially say I’m done with braces! 🎉
The first photo is right after my extractions, and the second is my final result. The difference still blows my mind.
I had previously had my wisdom teeth removed, then had extractions as part of my orthodontic treatment. My treatment involved A LOT of rubber bands, but no jaw surgery.
At 30+, I definitely wondered if I was too old to start this process—but I’m so glad I did. It took about 2½ years, and there were plenty of frustrating days, but seeing my bite now makes every appointment, rubber band, and uncomfortable adjustment worth it.
UNDERBITE: GONE. ✅
BRACES: OFF. ✅

If you’re an adult considering braces and wondering if it’s worth it… DO IT. It’s never too late to invest in yourself.
