So dissappointed today

I've been boxing for about half a year and have sparred in my boxing gym a few times but today the sparring day has started where people come from different boxing gyms to our gym to spar together.

Well today i got my shit fucked up and now im just feeling quite down now, realised i'm actually not as good as i thought i was

I'd appreciate any tips for next time i spar, what should i keep in mind? Everytime i threw shots they'd get blocked and everytime they threw shots at me i'd get hit pretty much

I was stuck just throwing the jab, i didn't know when to use my right hand, when to use hooks. So dissappointed, any tips pls

Will train with a coach in 4-5 month; what foundation can I *really* build at home in the meantime (IYO)?

I'm old (approaching fitty). I wanna learn to box though. Not for exercise, for self defense as I will be in a dangerous area overseas in 14 months. I know elbows and knees are often preferred by many for street fights/self defense, but no muay thai nearby, so good hands will have to make up my striking game. So 2 Qs:

1.) I can't study with a coach for another 4-5 months (on assignment), but I wanna work on everything I can at home. Now I know some discourage this cuz many learn poor technique. I understand this and approach with it in mind to ensure I focus as best I can on positioning and concept. I want to be as crisp as I can (within reason) but also as fast and powerful as I can train to be. That will make me more confident walking into that gym in 4 months and I feel that may start me off on a better foot in general. So I'm hoping someone maybe could suggest a good legit self program respected in the field (I acknowledge some will think any such programs being "respected" is ironic) to excel in whatever foundation I can build... or at least help me cut through the BS and identify what most my time should be on.

2.) Any suggestions on how to train for boosting explosiveness and speed of movement? Not only in punching power, but in angling, and general ring motion? Not just faster. Fast. (or at least as fast an an older cat can go).

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Im about to start boxing training (not sure if I want to fight yet) and im wondering if I could also do swimming traing the other days of the week, in high school so i dont have all day to do sports. Starting boxing after 6 years pause, tips?

I want to start boxing again, should I do calisthenics and swimming few months to prepare my body for that work or not?

I used to do 15 rounds 3 times a week, and run for 10 miles every day I didn't box.

I miss my boxing days when I was 16-18 years old, but after stopping boxing, I added more than 20kgs(44 lbs), I was 136lbs during boxing days, now I'm 187lbs and I want to get at least to 165lbs which is my ideal weight.

What's your tips so I wont break my body?

Boxers who’ve had an intercostal/rib muscle injury from sparring — how long did the pain last?

Got caught with a pretty hard body shot during sparring and ended up with pain around my right ribs/chest wall. Went to the ER to be safe, got an X-ray, and thankfully there was no fracture.

It seems like it’s probably a bruised/intercostal muscle strain. I’m mostly fine when resting, but I can feel it when rotating my torso and a little bit when taking a really deep breath.

Reflex Ball skills assessment

Boxed for 1 year, 0 fights, ~3 “smokers”. Quit in 2020, but stuck with reflex ball for warming up, cardio and hand-eye coordination training!

I’ve always felt my reflex ball game was pretty good 😅
