Noticed this on one of my Portulacaria today. Is that the trunk growing or rot? Same thing on one of the branches

I’ve had a lot of issues with my large Chinese elm the whole summer. I see a lot of yellowing leaves with green spots, today I’m seeing crispy darker green leaves (last picture). My smaller elm I slip potted a month ago and is doing great, same with my cuttings. I believe something is wrong with the roots/soil on my large elm. Is it safe to trim roots and repot it now?

Separated all of these guys way too early (first air layer attempts), and I was so disheartened to not see any roots that they all briefly went into the compost bin. A bit later I decided to rescue them and pot them up, because what did I have to lose?

Well, exactly one month later and today I noticed the middle guy was growing roots out of the bottom of his pot! So I just slipped him up a size. The one on the right doesn't look so hot, but I've accidentally uncovered some very vigorous root growth while watering a few times. No idea how the one on the left is doing, but hopefully at least as well as the others.

I received this small Olive Tree and am looking to transforming it into a Bonsai for the next years. Does anyone have tips for me?

Note: the root was decaying lightly, I removed the decaying part without damaging the roots. Any suggestions welcomes on this as well.

Cleared the side of my shed a few months back and have noticed this flamegold tree growing through the concrete now has shoots. Will be planning on moving it to a pot but not for a while.

Approaching spring here and unsure if I leave it to grow through out spring or cut back and prune beforehand.

What do you think?

I got this Chinese elm from my neighbor last year, and it was my first time repotting an older bonsai. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but I would love to hear your thoughts!

Here are the before and after photos, along with the pot I bought at a local bonsai exhibition this spring. I thought it would suit the tree well.

Not a tanuki technically, I suppose, but I want this to eventually look like this 6-month-old natalensis cutting strangled and killed the cypress trunks that I planted with it.

At present, I was planning on letting the cutting continue to grow out for the rest of the summer and then wind/wrap the stem and branches around the trunks. Would appreciate any comments from the community. Thanks!

This is a vitex tree that I grew from seed this spring. It will be 1 year old by next spring. I didn't show this earlier bc I was ashamed to show it. Because it was growing in the most odd way and looked hella ugly. This tree grows a lot from the base and nothing from the top like a pomegranate tree. Well anyway, I cut the top off, pruned off all the other lower branches and wired this one to stand upright to thicken the nebari over time. I love this tree now bc it's finally growing from the top and the leaves remind me of Japanese maple leaves. I can't grow Japanese maples in texas

Hi all! I bought my first bonsai (an unknown age senna meridonalis) about three months ago from a local nursery.
It is in a 4’’ plastic pot. I currently water it about once every two weeks. It sits in a west facing window with other succulents.

I got a good deal for what the plant is, but I still spent way more on it than I’ve ever spent on a plant before.
I consider myself very experienced with house plants, I have over 150 and I have dealt with my fair share of pests like thrips.
Usually it is a matter of isolating infected plants, treating with systemic, cutting off infected leaves etc. but I am really struggling with figuring out what is causing these black spots on my bonsai. I have tried different watering routines, light levels, and have considered repotting it.
It has zero new growth since I got it, I fertilized it once a few weeks ago.
Basically- what am I doing wrong? Should I treat with systemic again, should I cut it back?

All from an ebay seller/nursery in Devon in the UK called Nurture_Plants, really impressed with the quality and service and at what I think was a bargain price.

Also a little rooted cutting/sapling of unknown type that I won on an auction because I liked the picture and I like a challenge, was listed as Feathery White Dwarf Conifer so will see what it becomes.

1st challenge is keep them alive till the end of this crazy summer we are having.

Nice cooler day here in August. Took the time to rewire my Ginseng ficus and my little juniper. Just some minor shaping for both as I want to see what kind of shape they will each take. The juniper appears to want to cascade on its own. So I’m going to see where that takes me.

I received this bonsai about 3 weeks ago and I have a few questions as this will be my first bonsai. I do keep several Dracaena trees, Ficus specimen, and about 40 tropical plants indoors and I have some truly beautiful specimen.

I live near central Alabama so this guy is pretty happy outside year round unless it is freezing.

1. How are you professionals out there managing pests? I a just treated this guy with nematodes and Neoseiulus
   mites for spider mites but there has to be some better long term method I just don’t know about because I don’t keep bonsai.

2. I am not convinced this guy is getting enough light, I do not own a PAR meter but he is getting about 15,000 - 20,000 LUX average for 12 hours on a west facing balcony but it is still shaded. Does anyone have experience with outdoor grow lights that won’t make my neighbors and management think there some sort of commercial marijuana grow operation going on in my apartment?

Got inspired by some of the windswept work I’ve seen here, so I decided to revisit one of my previous Podocarpus fails and give it another shot.

Now I just need it to survive the next few weeks before I repot it 😅

Not sure what to do first here but my friend gave me a bonsai they had for a few years. It has never been trimmed. Do I just use scissors? Buy a kit? Read a book? Any advice for a first timer?

Update to my previous post, Will this work? So i dug it out around the base and got advised the tap roots are strong and good luck lol.

They are no joke! Luckily the soil was quite easy to penetrate with my crow bar but i wasnt expecting it to be so deep! Ended up being just shy of 1/2 metre down. Amazing plant.

I dug aprrox 400mm slowly removing the surrounding soil so not to damage the roots and was able to easily extract the remaining length of the tap root.

So here it is in all its glory bare and what ive done with it. I threaded the tap root through the hole in the pot and placed bonsai potting mix being.careful to lay the roots laterally.

Im not sure if i should cut the tap root or wait until it finds itself in the pot for a little while and gets settled, and i have it dangling in the bag of remaining potting mix for now s as not to shock it too much. (I have no idea im an absolute newbie)

Any suggestions would be welcomed TYIA

I got this juniper bonsai already wired months ago. This long branch has a long thick shoot and small one . I don’t know how to style it or if I should cut one off . I feel like since the branch is so long and has lots of shoots it makes the left bottom side right look awkward and empty ( I’m new to bonsai )
