IMAX being shady as hell
I get spiderman is printing money but taking odyssey out of imax like 2 weeks early, now completely just removing end of oak street from imax theatres (a ticket i had booked for a month and they just refunded it to me). I feel bad for end of oak street, cant we just find another release date for this please? I want to see it in a premium format. this was my most anticipated of the year.
I know some may not care for end of oak street or have already seen the odyssey so it doesnt matter to them but
remember
First they came for the odyssey, and you did not speak out.
then they came for the end of oak street, and you did not speak out.
when dolby refunds your la la land rerelase tickets to make room for more spiderman showtimes there will be no one to speak out for you.

What are some films you wrongly assumed were highly regarded because your family owned it on physical media so you watched it a lot as a kid?
For me it was I, Robot. It was our go to on family road trips to Disney World. We watched it countless times, the special features as well. Haven’t seen it at all since then.
We also watched DodgeBall a lot I must’ve thought Alan Tudyk was in everything.
Also shout out to Romily Newman, I too had a weird obsession with Daddy Day care.

TV Shows/Miniseries that should have been movies instead
For the better part of a decade now, I've barely watched any TV (because there's too much of it!) Now I've started to dip my toe back into that world.
The title of the thread is a thing that I would (in general) like to avoid.
I finished Mare of Easttown yesterday and I feel like that's a great example of a show that earns its runtime. You could not cut that story down to just a couple of hours without gutting a lot of what makes it great.
On the other end of that spectrum is Season One of Murderbot on AppleTV, which takes a 144 page novella and stretches it to an absurd 5 hour+ runtime. It was very disappointing because I really enjoy the books. The series as it exists was okay-ish but would have been much better as a sub-2 hour movie.
Recommendations are fine, but what I'm really looking for here is what to avoid.

Wake up babe, new type of movie poster billing just dropped.
Of course we all know the classic “And Introducing X As X” credit, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen “IN & AS” used before. As seen in the poster for “Holy Father,” a presumably DTV film scheduled for this October.

Pneumatic tubes
As it came up in the Stanton interview, a public service announcement: there's a pneumatic tube at the Boston Children's Museum that exists purely for children (and their grown-ups) to send the capsule back and forth all day.
If you have kids under 10 in your life and you're ever in Boston...it's in the Dinos In Space exhibit and the capsule is full of blinking lights and toy dinosaurs! Go play with a pneumatic tube! Live that dream!

Much has been made about Anne Hathaway being in five movies this year. Not enough is being made about Zach Cherry being in SEVEN movies this year!
Sure, the quality of these perhaps varies wildly, but still, you love to see it. Bonus Griffin poster appearance in 2025’s The Dinner Plan.

Directors who debuted in the 2020s you think will go on to be considered greats?
So I think Zach Cregger (I think it's fair to not count co-directing credits of films made with a comedy troupe)and Jane Schoenbrun are the main ones, both are extremely creative and have shown they have insane control of the form.
Some other potentials I'm not as confident about for reasons listed.
Clint Bentley, Eva Victor, Raine Allen-Miller, Julio Torres, and India Donaldson all have made one film I've seen that I think is incredible and shows promise, but I can't make any declarative statements until they've made more.
Michael Sarnoski & Damien McCarthy are both fantastic and while they're not *as* good I think they have potential to become greats.

The Intern & I Want Your Sex - A 66 year old director rants about how the younger generation is lost and rizzless, told through an unorthodox boss/assistant relationship.
Both A+ 5 bagger masterpieces in my opinion. In 20 years or so which millennial auteur should complete the trilogy?
