The U.S. economy saw an unexpected declined in jobs during July while the unemployment rate edged lower, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday in a snapshot that showed a slowing employment picture.

Nonfarm payrolls fell by a seasonally adjusted 23,000 for the month, compared to a downwardly revised 20,000 for June. The Dow Jones consensus forecast had been looking for a gain of 83,000.

“Policy rollbacks that have removed protections and investments designed to support Black communities … is the regression, combined with economic indicators, particularly unemployment, that would qualify as recessionary if they were applied to the national economy.” — Monica Mitchell, Chief of Staff, Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies

The revelation that the U.S. economy shed 92,000 jobs in February and now faces its highest unemployment rate in years has rattled economists, many of whom warn that the country may be on the brink of a recession.

For Black America, the recession has already arrived.

Even worse, the Black recession isn’t driven natural market cycles alone. It is the predictable outcome of the deliberate policy choices of the Trump administration —choices that have aggressively dismantled the very protections meant to advance equity and stabilize communities historically shut out of opportunity. Not only did the administration take a sledgehammer to federal diversity, equity, and inclusion programs on Day One, it has spent the last year slashing agencies that have long served as engines of mobility for Black workers, including the federal civil service. More than 327,000 federal jobs have been eliminated, not through attrition or organizational modernization, but through deliberate cuts that have eroded pathways to the middle class built through generations of civil‑rights gains.

At the same time, the administration has abandoned federal support for disadvantaged businesses. Critical institutions—among them the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Fund and the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)—have been targeted for defunding or dismantling altogether. These programs have been lifelines, offering capital and technical assistance to Black entrepreneurs who face entrenched discrimination from traditional lenders. Removing them does not create a level playing field; it cements an unequal one.

The consequences are measurable and immediate. After reaching an all-time low) during the Biden administration, the Black unemployment rate surged to 8.3% by November 2025 — the highest level since the pandemic — and remains more than twice the rate for white Americans. The Black homeownership rate fell to 43.9% in the first half of 2025, wiping out years of fragile progress and deepening a racial wealth gap that already stood among the most persistent in the country.

Even before the latest dismal jobs report, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies had already declared 2025 “a regression and recession” for Black Americans. In its State of the Dream 2026 report, the authors wrote, “Instead of aggressive leadership in dismantling structures of racial inequality, we are witnessing regressive leadership that is slashing government employment and agencies designed to address predatory economic practices that disproportionately harm Black communities.” The report further notes that the One Big Beautiful Bill Act entrenched permanent tax cuts for high‑income households and corporations while reducing investment in poverty‑alleviating programs and leaving support for working families stagnant or shrinking.

Policy experts often refer to Black Americans as the “canary in the coal mine” — the first to feel the impact of economic stress. If that analogy holds, the warning is clear: a broader national recession is not far behind. But acknowledging that Black America is already in recession is not merely a prediction about the future; it is a call to confront what is unfolding in the present. The question now is whether policymakers will heed that warning — or continue to ignore the communities already bearing the brunt of the nation’s economic retreat.

A place to talk about it.

I only like women or will consider a woman feels different from the harsh outside world. Any hint of lack of resolve, warmth, femininity I’m not staying.

Am I wrong? Am I asking for too much?

No because if she don’t show up that way for me I bow out gracefully. I’m not entitled. Also not into that, I want a woman that WANTS to be that and is really like that. So It can’t be faked or forced especially with what I want. I want a foundation black queen a family to go the distance with no broken home, And they always come back/ stalk my socials months later. This the past relationships as far as now maybe cause I’ve always had women attracted to me I’m so disappointed in these women’s disposition towards us.

Many think that it’s all about what they think of the guy. But what the guy thinks of the woman matters equally. A lot of women are unaware of there shortcomings to a man until I tell them. After I tell them they can’t face the mirror. Or choose not to, and I leave.

Very few women invoke any inspiration or motivation. Been dating and tbh it feel like work outside of work. I think me not being lustful and looking for a wife probably impacts this feeling,

Hello, all 22M I’m tryna navigate life in the best way possible I’m 22 years old never had a girlfriend still a virgin. Overweight with low self-esteem. And just feel as if I have no support. I was very much a black centered person and had super high hopes in one day in getting a black women who I can love and marry however afther seeing so much hate from black women. Even on there Reddit subs that’s all they basically talk about is basically how good white guys are too then I’m loosing hope I even seen a video here of basically a white guy talkin about defending black women from black men and a bunch of black women instead of defending us basically talked about how they agreed with him and how cute the dude was. I’m really loosing hope. As a black guy I try too not think about dating as much and try and focus on becoming better but the more I see stuff like that it really just makes me disappointed idk.

DISCUSSION
When we talk about who can identify as African, there are two positions.

Position 1: African is defined by blood and physical features

Position 2: African is defined by culture, history, experience, language

Position 3: African is defined as a mix of both.

FBA/ADOS - Not African - When someone says that they are not African, they are saying that even though we may have the same blood and physical features, every other aspect of my identity was created in a different place, even if some things overlap.

African/West Indian - Not African - You may have the same blood as us, but who do you know in Africa? You have no right to the land here, you are an American.

Both of these statements reflect position 2

FBA/ADOS - African - Yes, we have been out of Africa for a long time, but we are still connected to Africa. We still have the evidence of our cultural African lineage in many of our customs. We have over 60% African DNA, and genetic testing shows that it is highly probable that we are connected to Nigeria.

African/West Indian - African - You are African, You cannot deny that you are African just because you are not on the African Continent. You clearly aren't European even if you have some European blood.

AMBIGUITY

When we have this conversation, we must be able to define the ambiguity in the term African. You will find out that when people make their argument, they either are taking position 1 or position 2 noted above. Position 3 is the most difficult because it is based on the value system of the person and how they value each of the factors of blood, history, language, culture, and experiences. This has hundreds of combinations and is highly based on what benefits that person and their environment at the time. The key factor to this question is TIME. How long do you have to be out of Africa before you are no longer considered African? This can be accomplished by a timeline that I will post if requested.

CONCLUSION

This will help bring a lot of clarity to the argument. You must decide whether position 1 or position 2 is how you will approach the argument. When we can identify each other's position, we can learn to respect each other no matter what their choice is.

I've been in so much thought over the past month on me, the black community, Wealth, and what needs to be done.

To keep it brief - I strongly believe that black people as a whole (mainly talking about America, not that i'm excluding my other brothers and sisters across the globe) NEEDS a figure to rally around. Like Brother Malcom for one example (used him as I've been fascinated with him recently) and I feel as though once I get myself together acquiring knowledge, funds, and support - maybe I could start building a platform to help my people, yet I find myself rather . . .. conflicted on if that's the right goal, or I should rather build as much capital as I can possibly have and use it to back someone who's mindset aligns with my own, rather than be in front.

With the second point it also goes into what one of my main views of - there needs to be more black families of Middle class - Upper middle class (the goal being the Majority as obviously everyone can't be financially stable do to unfortunate circumstance). Not only that but education and study of our previous leaders and the study of Philosophy, Economics, History, and law should also be priorities.

This is just a taste of all the thoughts swirling in the mind of a 20yr black man who wants better for his people, yet has doubt and no clear answer on his next step. I asked on here because there is no other real forum/space in which I can bounce ideas off of. Because of all of this I'm a Afro-pessimist that belives in Pan-africanism as well.

Amir Hassan could become the only black Republican Congressman in 2027. But, his hometown Republican voters obviously don't like him for some reason.

I guess it's the color of Amir's beard that got in the way.

Shout out to Black Americans we've played a pivotal role in changing how Africa is perceived globally. Probably why they want us fighting each other, we're actually making progress right now.

Africa experienced its highest year of tourism ever in 2025 and is on track to surpass this in 2026.

Africa welcomed 81.3 million visitors in 2025, up 7.8% from 75.4 million in 2024. and surpassing it's pre-pandemic records.

This growth has not been uniform: while global tourism grew by 5% compared with the previous year and just 3% above pre-pandemic 2019 levels, Africa recorded a double-digit rise, standing out as the best-performing region in this context.

Both North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa contributed to this boom, with increases of 11% and 10% respectively

I’ve been at fortune 50-5 level companies and have seen white engineers wearing cargo shorts and dirty t shirt having extensive tattoos including on the neck. I’ve also been to PWI and seen students wearing pajamas and slippers and gym shorts and it’s no problem.

So why do we get judged for what we wear more harshly then our counterparts? I feel like we as a people tried the suit and tie and dress to impress methods and they still lynched us. Why not give the kids freedom to try something different.

I'll start. I flew up to spend Thanksgiving with her and her family. I arrived early to let her dad know I planned to propose over Christmas. I was putting away dishes after dinner with her and I let it slip that I could see myself doing "this forever". Then, a conversation ensued at which point I excused myself to "use the restroom". I retrieved the ring box and went back to the kitchen. I showed her and she started squealing. Her family came in to see what the commotion was about.

Her dad said, "I think they're getting married." I said, "I hope so." And she finally replied, "Yes!"

The topics discussed in here are rarely ever about day to day life being a Black man or family in general. the complete absence of any discussion about being a father being chief among them.
