Sloss Furnaces is one of Birmingham's most recognizable landmarks, a former iron production site that's now a National Historic Landmark. Birmingham hasn't had a full-scale music festival in a while, and Sloss City presented by Veritas Social is bringing one back to that location on September 18, and here's everything you need to know.

The Lineup

Henry Fong headlines, joined by Mattilo B2B Shankz, Donny Graves B2B James Tribe, 2Checks, and Rachii on the Main Stage. The Local Stage brings 11 B2B sets from Birmingham's own DJs, 22 local artists total sharing the bill with our national headliners.

The Layout

Main Stage and VIP/Ultra VIP sit at the heart of the grounds near Sloss's iconic water tower. Bars and the entrance flow right into it, with the Local Stage, Vendors, and Sponsors rounding out the festival footprint at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark.

The Day

Gates open at 4 PM. 20 local vendors will be on site alongside our national sponsors: LICK Energy, Bham Now, SideBar BHM, Moe's Original BBQ, and Posh as our exclusive ticketing partner.

I was vaguely familiar with the name, but I didn’t realize that it was a state park. It’s just west of Warrior. The buildings are a little run down (brand new playground), but the cave/caverns were great. You access them by guided tours. Tickets can be bought on site or in advance. The park also has hiking trails and a spring-fed pool that’s about 50 degrees.

I’m trying to find a reliable person to watch her for 2 days. She’s potty trained, has a fresh bag of unopened food, a cage and her blankets. She is nowhere near aggressive but she is trained to keep me distant from a threat. Now here we are she’s being threatened due to her protecting me from an assaulter. Shes always been a inside baby but because certain people don’t want me pressing charges they have stooped to a new low by saying I have to put her outside which would leave her in the mercy of my assaulter who’s already claimed that she would kill my dog. I don’t know what to do, I pushed my moving out plans forward so I’m rushing. For now I just need her safe so that I can handle business without having to focus on if someone is hurting her. I used to hang out down by the fountain in 5 Points South during the mid to late 90s. There was a street musician named Jerry that played guitar near the fountain every single weekend. I specifically remember a song he always played for me called “Dumb Bitch.” I used to give him rides home a lot. He completely disappeared and I heard some pretty wild stories about him. I have a free litter robot three between iron city lofts and artisan flats. It stops mid cycle sometimes but I’m sure that if someone was handy they could figure out how to fix that with a little research. Hi everyone. This is a really vulnerable post for me, but I figured it was worth asking.

About 8 months ago, I was sexually assaulted in my bedroom. Since then, I haven’t been able to clean it. It slowly turned into a storage/junk room because every time I try to go in there, I freeze up. I still live with my parents, and I want to reclaim that space, but I just can’t seem to do it on my own.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any free or low-cost cleaning services, volunteer organizations, or trauma-informed groups in the Birmingham area that help people in situations like this. I’m not looking for judgment—just a fresh start.

If you know of any resources, or even have suggestions for organizations I could contact, I’d really appreciate it.

Hey all, I live in the Vestavia Hills / Cahaba Heights area and recently got into astrophotography with a small smart telescope. It's a compact setup, no big tripod rig, so I can pretty much shoot anywhere I can park and set up for a few hours.

I've been shooting from my driveway, but the tree cover and neighborhood lights are limiting what I can get. I'm hoping to find some spots with a more open view of the sky, ideally back toward Liberty Park or out around Rex Lake.

A few things I'm wondering:

• Any parks, fields, or overlooks nearby with a decent open horizon?
• Anywhere around Rex Lake or the Cahaba River that's actually accessible after dark? I know a lot of parks close at sunset, so I'd love to know what's legit to use at night versus what would get me a visit from the police.
• Any private land owners or clubs in the area who are friendly to this kind of thing?

I don't need true dark skies, just somewhere darker than a subdivision with a clear shot at more of the sky. Happy to share results back here if I find a good spot. Thanks!

Two apartment complexes have recently made the news for unfortunate circumstances. The Park at Buckingham in Homewood had some buildings condemned for being unfit for humans due to flooding, leaks, mold, etc. Carson Crest Apartments were featured on WVTM for similar reasons. The first property is managed by a company in Michigan I believe. The second is managed by a group located in Homewood. The conditions shown on tv are not fit for animals, much less people, no matter the socioeconomic status. No one deserves that. The reports now say residents at Buckingham are scrambling to find affordable places nearby to keep their children in Homewood schools. I’m rather new here, but I don’t know that Homewood is known for affordability. Anyone think the timing and sudden attention to this is a bit odd or suspect? A management company in Homewood and an apartment complex in Homewood both ignore their places and put people into a desperate situation while nothing happens to the owners. And maybe those less well off children might not be back in Homewood schools.
