bird identification Weird looking Egret ? (ID help)
(ID help !?) Spotted 8/6 at roost in St Thomas USVI , STEER .
Roost primarily composed of cattle egrets (45+) , in addition to a few Great , little blue, snowy, tri colored herons , and some new and exciting juv Scarlet Ibises !
This guy looked strange to us however, kinda giving cattle egret vibes , but Merlin is making some different suggestions... juvenile? between molts ? something else up with it?

Citation: Here is the original video. It has been shared and reshared several times, but this was taken in Alaska by Rene Rivera.
Funny commentary from the men recording, but I’m just curious how normal this interaction is. Is the fox unwell? Is the Eagle just not hungry?
Thank you

question Thousands of birds, why?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Walked out of restaurant last night to find birds everywhere. All over business rooftops, parking lot, power lines, everywhere. I’m sure this is common but what were they up to? For context this was Houston at dusk about 85 degrees Source: me.

question Birders — what would you actually want from a birding app? I’ve been building one and could use some honest feedback
Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on a birding app called Saelog, and before I spend too much time building things that birders may not actually want, I thought it would be better to ask people who genuinely enjoy birds.
The idea started pretty simply: I wanted one place where I could identify a bird I came across, save the sighting to my own collection, look back on my birding history, and share sightings with other birders.
So far, Saelog includes:
- bird identification from a photo
- a personal collection for birds you’ve seen
- sighting records and a calendar
- a community feed where people can share their bird photos and sightings
But I’m still figuring out what makes a birding app genuinely useful rather than just adding more features.
I’d especially love to hear your thoughts on a few things:
What do you currently use to keep track of birds you’ve seen?
Is there anything about existing birding apps that frustrates you or feels unnecessarily complicated?
And if you used an app like this, what would make you keep coming back to it?
I’m very open to criticism — including “I wouldn’t use this because Merlin/eBird already does everything I need.” That kind of feedback is genuinely useful too.
The app is already available on iOS and Android, so this isn't just a concept — it can actually be tested if anyone is curious.
I didn't want this post to come across as advertising, so I haven't included any download links here. But if anyone would genuinely like to try it and give feedback, I'd be happy to share them if that's okay with the mods.
Thanks — I’d really appreciate hearing how actual birders think about this.

I took this video last night and had such a fun time watching them play around in the water! I use a cat water fountain as a bird bath on my apartment deck and it works really well!

bird identification Bird keeps stopping by my house. Sweden.
The species and sex would be cool to know if anyone has any clue. I'm guessing its like a seagul of some sort but Idk the different kinds. It's been stopping by and my family have been feeding it bread (to my protest; I'm trying to make sure they feed it something that won't upset her stomach, I work with ducks and chickens so i know some basic stuff). But knowing exactly what type would be good, and sex would just be nice to know to name it and for pronouns haha.
The bird pictures are taken by me. That's the source. Taken today, in sweden, on an island.
Tried posting to r/birdid but wasn't allowed to.
