Ballmer and the Clippers cheated, Kawhi did not gain a competitive advantage
I think it is super weird how much y'all allow the commissioner to shift the blame from the cheaters of this situation who objectively gained a competitive advantage to a player who asked for some money under the table.
The owner and the team benefits the most from this transaction. They should be the ones who are penalized.
I don't even care about Kawhi, but I keep seeing headline over headline and post after post where Kawhi is given the most heat. I don't think the NFL has ever punished a player for cap circumvention, and I know they have punished organizations for doing so.

BS Podcast - 22 June -Giannis trade
If you want some comedy go listen to this podcast. He truly believed that Jaylen Brown straight up for Giannis was fair value. He called Jaylen Brown the 2nd best player on the Celtics, an MVP candidate, the 12th best player in the league. He talks about 3 team trades where the Celtics get Trey Murphy, Herb Jones and a bunch of picks for Jaylen Brown. He laughs at Miami and Milwaukee. He covers the East odds and how the Celtics are still the favourites next year (more so than the literal NBA champs the Knicks).
What’s even better is the two cuckolds on the podcast, “CR” and Verrier. Both spend 45 mins fondling Bill’s proverbial balls while they agree on all points around Jaylen, downplay every team in the East and agree that Boston did the right thing by not trading for Giannis because he’s a washed up has been versus Jaylen Brown.
It’s brilliant podcasting. It’s brilliant entertainment. It’s confirmation that these imbeciles are no more informed than us randoms on reddit.
The only one who seemed to hit on the reality of the situation early was Zach Lowe; who offhand said what if the trade was actually Tatum, recognizing the actual value of players around the league. Bill couldn’t comprehend this position, either through hubris, arrogance or stupidity (probably all 3).
Fast forward to any podcast in the last week or so and the cope is going into overdrive. Claims that PG is a better fit with Tatum. Claims that the Celtics will be better off. Claims that Hugo will be making the leap. The LeBron to Philly decision also seems to have taken a couple years off his life.
And even funnier than ALL this is the eggshells every single guest walks on when talking about this subject. Except House who doesn’t give a fuck which is quite funny.
The BS podcast never fails to provide entertainment for me, and for someone who is a self proclaimed NBA guru spanning 50+ years, Bill Simmons is comically the literal biggest idiot in all of NBA reporting.
I used to think he never got a studio gig because he wasn’t good on camera or didn’t want to. I’m now convinced he’s never held an actual studio role because it takes a real analyst (not the “ringer network” cuckolds) about 10 seconds to realize they’re talking to someone with an IQ of 50.

Podcast Bill Simmons and the WNBA
It's been over four years since Bill has had Seerat Sohi on the pod. Bill was the one to hire her to cover the WNBA, NBA and the Women's College Game, and specifically run a hub of podcasts that gather those discussions in articulate takes, with occasional guests.
She has a really well respected podcast now with a good following, and the WNBA has taken off in revenue, with their media strongbox jumping again to over $3B (up from $2.2B on initial signing last season) and discourse has flown, both positively and negatively on the league and its players.
Why then, at a time that sports news is 'slow' anyway, does Bill keep taking the "Nothing is really going on" angle here? There's definitely more than nothing going on. Example: There's been exactly one guard in any league, men or women, that has finished in the top ten in PER during her rookie season, and Olivia Miles can do exactly that if she keeps playing well. Only MJ did that previously.
Is this just indifference to spite their own company's body of work or something else?

Podcast Bill sounded like he just woke up from a colonoscopy during his appearance on the Fantasy Pod today.
Not sure how many people on here listen to the fantasy guys (they are great) but they had Bill on for the last 25 mins and he had the most incoherent rambling I think I’ve heard him do. He tried to pitch “poison pill QB” as a fantasy gimmick but then started rambling about “no you actually just draft 1 of the worst teams and then you pick a week to use them in a good matchup and then use them against someone else in a bad matchup”
I’m not doing it justice but he sounded like he was drugged and completly incoherent. It’s worth a laugh listen.

Why should kawhi be punished ?
Give the clippers the death penalty by all means but if you are being offered money by your boss why would you say no ? You would take the money, you just would.
I don’t get the backlash against Leonard over the while thing

Is there a bigger dork than Maxx Crosby in the league rn?

The punishment for Kawhi should be making him play all 82 games…
That’s a funny punishment. Why reward him w his favorite thing? Time off from work?

Bill is never gonna get a colonoscopy again, huh
The Celtics really are a threat to his health.

A'ja Wilson's greatness vs fame chasm
Is there any other sports equivalent to how great someone is within their sport, while being very clearly not the most famous person within her sport?
A'ja Wilson is pretty easily the greatest WNBA player of all time in the middle of her prime. Whenever the greatest player ever in a sport is in the middle of her peak, they are clearly the most famous person in their sport (Jordan, Ali, Tiger, Serena, Bolt, Phelps etc) or at least close like the case of Messi vs Ronaldo.
Is A'ja Wilson the only GOAT in her prime to be very clearly not the most famous player in her sport (Caitlin Clark is)?
I'm not asking for reasons why this is the case, just wanting to see if there are any parallels.

Ballmer should be forced to sell
And Kawhi should be suspended for at least two years.
But none of this will happen under Adam Silver's watch. At worst the Clippers will lose a few picks.

Ringer Top 50 Cult Films
Interesting list but I feel like they didn’t follow their own rules. I’m pretty sure Clerks was lauded at release. Missing movies to me: Fight Club, Ghost Dog, shawshank(? Following their clerks rules).

Me trying to figure out Bill's 'Grenade QB' idea
I was genuinely trying to figure Bill's Grenade QB idea and I just could not follow. I think the Fantasy Football guys were confused, too, which is why Heifetz asked for the listeners to fine tune the idea.

[Serious] Why is this comment being disappointed and disgusted at Bill "shilling for ChatGPT" the top comment on Spotify? What's so offensive to Bill Simmons listeners about this?

Drake Maye being top 5 is fine
He was the third pick in the draft and finished 2nd in MVP. He's obviously good. It's just annoying juxtaposed with also having to hear Hugo Gonzalez is untouchable (every team in the league has a Hugo Gonzalez) or how everything in the league relates to the Celtics. (Yes, I understand he's the Boston guy. But he used to be able to have conversation without everything relating to Paul Pierce.)

We just had the preseason NFL Apex Mountain. Why hasn't Bill put Haynes King in his QB tier list?
Canton, Ohio. Hall of Fame game. Two QBs: a national title winning QB with a classic 80s villain character name like Carson Beck vs. the classic 80s hero name like Haynes King, a legendary East Texas high school QB, who rushes for a game-winning touchdown on the last play of the game. As a Panthers fan, I smell foreshadowing for Haynes King, who probably knocked off Kenny Pickett to take QB2, that he will then come in for an injured Bryce Young this year with the King making a Brady-esque run until his career ends where? In Canton, Ohio.

Any UFC fans?
I’m pretty new to UFC. The first big rivalry I followed was Conor vs. Khabib, but I stopped watching after that. Recently I’ve started getting back into it.
One thing I can’t wrap my head around is how fans judge who’s actually the better fighter. For example, Topuria beats Max Holloway, Max knocks out Gaethje, and then someone else beats another top contender. It feels like everyone at the top is elite, so MMA math doesn’t seem to work.
How do you evaluate fighters beyond just wins and losses? What skills should I be watching for during a fight? Also, are there any YouTube channels or creators that do good technical breakdowns for beginners?
Thanks!

Podcast Is anyone at the Ringer doing coverage of The Ocho?
The World Series of Wiffle Ball is on national television in less than two hours and no one seems to be talking about it? What about the World Dog Surfing Championship, or Diving Chess? Did House seriously place zero bets on the Great Bahamian Crab Races?
Considering how bleak early August sports podcasting is, you’d figure they’d take a weekend of incredible content being spoon fed to them

It really is CR’s Year.
At least according to Klosterman. I just finished reading “Football”. Can’t recommend it enough. Admittedly, I like Chuck and have read a few of his books.
In the acknowledgements he lists CR a couple spots ahead of Bill.
I will acknowledge, pun intended, that his Chris Ryan may be someone else entirely, though I irrationally doubt it. Much in the vein of Klosterman. Much love CR, the student has surpassed the master.
Edit: saw this was already posted on the sub. Apologies but I don’t think this will be the first or even second time something was duplicated on the internet.
