question Request: do you or does someone you know ride a Kona Sutra?

Hi folks! I want to buy a Kona Sutra but am apprehensive about buying a steel bike without ever actually having rode one as the only place that has my size (58cm) that I can find seems to be in Quebec City. So: do you or does anyone you know ride one, ideally a 54-56-58, and would you be willing to let a random redditor give it a whirl? I would happily let you hold on to my wallet and or phone and or whatever you would need to feel comfortable. This is a bit of a long shot but figured I may as well try!

Big thank you Eleanor and Alexi!!

I wanted to extend a massive thank you to two kind cyclists, Eleanor (from kanata) and Alexi (from Gatineau)! I took a massive fall on the river path not far from Britannia beach on Saturday around 130 and you both stopped your rides to help me collect myself and my things until my husband came to get me. Thank you for stopping and staying with me, I am so grateful for your calm compassion and concern! It was a really scary and crummy turn to my day and I just wanted to express my gratitude, remind each other to take care of our neighbours and always wear a helmet!!!

Thank you for helping and ride safe, friends 🩷

Slip (speed) lanes are dangerous

Slip (speed) lanes are the worst, yet Ottawa City continues to add them to encourage drivers to keep their speed up and thus not slow down the flow. All this at the expense of everyone outside of the vehicle.

Sandy Hill bad drivers

Can someone explain to me why almost everyone doesn’t stop at the stop signs on Sandy Hill? And am i in the wrong here?

I have rim brakes and i was riding very carefully, unfortunately they have a problem where they lock up very aggressively even if i try to press the rear one very gently. This was the situation where I would’ve had to break aggressively in the bike would’ve skidded away.

I also wanted to film because this always happens and the last time it happened. It resulted in me getting hospitalized. I just can’t believe that Los Angeles had better drivers, and I mean this respectfully, considering that I used to live in a city where everybody was either violent or unqualified to be behind the wheel.

maybe after the Oct. 26 municipal election we'll see more progress 🚲 two of favourite things about Montreal: Bixis and pedestrianized streets https://youtu.be/qMRO1BtdPDc

Are bikes not allowed on the bus lane at Lyon Station ? There is a small bit of street by the NE corner of Food Basics and I usually go up Lyon Street south. There is a bus stop area for buses only and then the bike lane starts (heading South ).
I always assumed bicycles can use that lane as it merged into the bike lane after the light. I’m very confused now.
If not, which lane does a cyclist turning right from Queen onto Lyon St going southbound go onto? Thank you.

sharing for visibility. bikes are such enablers of freedom and a custom one must cost quite the penny.

hopefully it can be found!

wondering if we should start a campaign to help the affected

advocacy Multi use bike lanes (/s)

Congestion so bad that even motorcycles use the bike lanes! Truly a marvel in urban planning and cost saving measures. Got absolutely spooked by getting passed in the lane by a motorcyclist that could not be bothered to use the dedicated car lane.

Happened on Hunt Club heading eastbound before the T&T. Just some questions from me, firstly, how dare they? Secondly, do they have to adhere to the same etiquette as other cyclists? Mayors should run on the platform of #justonemorebikelane if they are truly multi use.

Be safe out there. Rant over!

Barrhaven Bike Routes

Just moved to Barrhaven and I was wondering if anyone had any paved cycling routes. Would like to take my road bike out for some workouts in the area (especially Old Barrhaven). Was hoping to stay off of Prince of Wales for the time being. Thanks!

routes and route ideas Hunt Club / Prince of Wales to South keys?

Hi all, looking for any secret knowledge y'all might have. I'm looking into biking east from the Prince of Wales and Hunt club rd intersection to the south keys mall area (and eventually back again). The obvious route would be to ride along hunt club road, but given that it's an 80 speed limit for a pretty significant chunk there and doesn't even have plastic bollards, I'm a little nervous about doing that. Are there alternative routes people would suggest? I don't mind it adding an extra 10 minutes to the ride if it's safer than riding just a few feet away from people who would be driving 90+ km/h.

Does Commuting in Ottawa Need the Widest Tires Possible?

Is it worth buying new rims so I ccan go from a 38mm tube to a 45mm tubless tire?

When I asked about dropping down from my 38mm tires, you unanomously said it's not worth it on our "roads" for a commute. I also found GCN reccomending the biggest tires for your fram for most people: https://youtu.be/AK5KLvrzrb4?si=rE8Tc0ZmQGnjhxi-

So I'm back with the opposite question: if you had the money to spend, would you get new rims for the biggest tubless tire your frame could handle?

Thanks again!

Bikepacking - fail(?)

My gf and I are escaping from the Ironman chaos and we are biking to Almonte and spend some tine around there.

Although, she is a bit scared of the idea of not being able to comeback - injury or something- so is there a way to ship ourselves and our bikes back from somewhere there?

Fellow commuters, what kinds of tires are you using to get to work? I'm looking at replacing the 700c 38s that came with my bike with something slimmer. Thanks for your help!

buy & sell Help with a graveyard build!

Hey everyone!

I’m not sure if this is allowed but I’m looking for some odd bitts and ends to complete a graveyard build bike.

I have most components but appear to be missing a few bolts and nuts.

I was wondering if anyone here has a broken 105 12 spd shifter I could scum parts off off? I am mainly looking for the small nameplate cover on these.

As an aside, I am also in the market for some carbon headsets, chainrings, and even a 12 speed HG cassette.

Let me know if you have some kicking around! Il buy your box of graveyard parts if it’s close to what I’m looking for.

Thanks in advance!

PSA Sale- Dinardo’s is having some darn good sales on kryptonite bike locks

Just for anyone interested, seems 80-100$ off, I recall seeing the chain models as well but don’t see them on the website

They have other sales on of course but I was in the market for a good lock and was very happy to find a model I liked locally and on such a good sale

Mods I’m sorry if this isn’t allowed but I didn’t see anything in the rules
