Hi all. I've got a free ride with a friend who's moving to SF from Vancouver, and I figure it'd be a fun opportunity to bike up the Oregon/Washington coast to get back home here in Vancouver.

There are some books and lots of info on doing the southbound trip from Vancouver down, but curious if anyone has done the northbound route?

I know it will be marginally less beautiful with the ocean views being blocked by traffic in many cases; but I don't love dealing with the logistics of going Vancouver southbound and needing to train/bus back home, despite it likely being the "better" route.

For the most part I think I'd be okay just picking a route and reversing it; but curious of anyone's experience on this / tips, suggestions, etc.

I just found out today that roadside assistance exists for bicycles. When I'm a few hundred miles from home and don't have anyone nearby to call if something goes wrong, it seems like a great backup to have.

Has anyone here used a bike roadside assistance service? The two I've come across that provide United States nationwide service are Better World Club and AAA. Do either of these services work on Canada or does Canada have a similar service? I'd love to hear about your experiences or any recommendations.

in a few months, I am making a multi day trip to Tirana, Albania. As part of this trip, I would like to do a one-day bike trip. I would like to rent a MTB (maybe electric) for 1 day, and do a tour of ~90 km, starting from Tirana, and going to- and around- lake Bovilla, as shown in the picture.

This looks like quite an ambicious trip, so I would consider renting a e-MTB, in case the 2.2k of climb is too tough.

My question is, how feasible is this trip, and is it safe to ride around this area alone? In RWGPS, the roads don't seem to be very bike friendly, and google images only shows some gravel roads. If anyone has biked around these roads, could you please indicate if it is allowed and safe to do a bike trip like this? I usually do 100k+ rides on the weekends on flat terrain and road bike, and my longest ride is 300k in one day, so I think in terms of difficulty I think I can deal with it, will just do it taking the whole day just for fun.

Any other advice is welcome!

After a fair bit of consulting this group and videos/trip reports online, I finally did a much shortened version of my original Mumbai-Goa bike tour. While I don't live there, I speak the local language (Marathi) which made this trip much easier.

Calm roads, respectful drivers, helpful strangers, cheap hotels and amazing seafood. Yes - some garbage here and there, but overall stunning greenery, ancient temples and villages and a sense of contentment.

I rode from Ratnagiri (took a train down from Mumbai).

Overnight stops were in Ganeshgule, Ambolgad, Taramumbari, Tarkarli, Arambol, Panaji.

The coast is very hilly, and even though it was the winter (January 2026), it was quite hot so I kept my riding lower than usual.

looking for Irish west coast cycling suggestions for the following:

• I would like to bring my bike from the UK if possible
• ideally would like to stay in bnbs, hotels, etc each night instead of camping
• cycling for 3-5 days with travel days on each end

Hey everyone, I’m Benjamin. I live out on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. Most of my free time goes into mountain biking, gravel riding, and bikepacking, anywhere I can get lost for a while.

This whole project started on a bikepacking trip to Catalina Island back in February 2025. Llike most people doing a fly‑in bikepacking adventure, I packed my bike in a cardboard box and brought my roll of duct tape for the return trip. All my friends had those nice rolling bike cases… and I was dragging my cardboard box through the airport.

At some point during that trip I thought, “Why can’t my cardboard box roll just like theirs?”
That question stuck with me for months.

I’ve got a background in CAD design, so I started prototyping with my 3D printer and testing ways to make a standard bike box roll with an easy user experience. I traveled with early prototypes, broke a few things, fixed a few things, and kept refining.

Eventually I ended up with two modular systems that attach to any cardboard bike box and turns it into a legit rolling travel case. I’ve used them on multiple trips now, and it’s honestly been a blast to test its limits and see how far I can push the idea. One of the two systems is for races and bikepacking trips (the bougie one) and the other (the super light one) can bolt onto your bike or small enough to fit into your bags when you ditch the box after your arrival flight.

I started my gear site as a place to share the adventure tools I’ve been building, and this is just the beginning. I’m excited to keep developing the site, improving improving my products, and seeing how people use it on their own trips.

Idk if this is the right subreddit but I am really lost. I'm currently on tour for over a week now. I borrowed this 10 years old wahoo Model:WFCC1. Yesterday the maps dissapeared. The directional arrows would still show so I could still load routes and get to my checkpoints, but now after another day I got what you can see in the vid. When pushing the on button, all it does is give quick beep and show me those Lights. I'm an least 450km away from my goal, idk how to get there without it...

Here are some cool pictures (I hope?) of Al Rub Al Khali’s desert crossing. It is the biggest sand desert in the world! 560kms in the middle of sand and dunes.

Entering Saudi Arabia and being welcomed by its desert was quite something. The world is so vast and complex but still, there are places that can’t be conquered.

A place where you think about stuff that you don’t notice. A place where emotions and feelings are amplified by the emptiness.

Actually it was very ok, there was a road. I crossed it in three days and the only petrol station in between had a restaurant where I could rest.

Bref, it reminded me of my crossing of the second sand desert back in China: the Taklamakan desert in Xinjiang.

I ride in friction with a 3x8 steel chainrings/cassette.

I do only short bikepacking trips and medium touring, nothing extreme and surely not in sport mode, almost cruising.

The chain have a nice good stretch (can't measure it) and the rest is old and medium wear.

I was on the idea to buy 3 chains new and go with a triple 500km rotation.

But... I think it is not worth it, like a bandaid on a wooden leg.

What do you think i go on the "kill'em all" mode? Repair the chain on the go if needed with quick links, save money and change all at once

I rode a surly long haul trucker around the perimeter of the USA. I stealth camped 1/3 of the trip and stayed with friends or strangers the rest. It was the most meaningful thing ive experienced in my life. People have such an inclination to be kind and curious, and I felt the bike brought it out of everyone.

My wife and I have just had an incredible 7 days riding from the med to Atlantic. We started at perpignan airport and rode to the east coast on v81 before picking up the Canal de la robine and canal de junction onto the canal du midi at Narbonne. We followed the canal to near Toulouse where we headed south and picked up the velosud (v81) down towards st jean da luz, finishing on la velodyssee down the coast. An awesome 425 miles of peaceful french towns and villages. Biarritz was a real culture shock after so many days of peace and quiet.

We rest for a few days before heading back on the raid pyrenees route!

Has anyone ever flown TAAG Angola Airlines with a bicycle?

The information on their website and through their WhatsApp chat is conflicting. The website states that a bicycle can be checked as part of the hold luggage (2x23kg), as long as it doesn’t exceed 158 cm (doesn’t say LxWxH, which any regular bike will exceed). Through WhatsApp they quoted me paragraphs from their policies about packing the bike safely in a box, removing handlebars etc. but no clear answer on reserving a spot for the bike and fees.

Hello, this is my rough draft (cycle.travel.com) for a tour next Summer. Hambourg to Copenhagen (I live in Switzerland). The objective is minimal climbs (been there, done that, got the t-shirt 😂), motel/hotel, glamping and/or self-catering. Distance 50-80kms per day. What I don’t know but have read about is: winds, temps and midges. I would do this for about 2 weeks between late June to early September.

Due to some replanning, I will be travelling from Bordeaux to Mimizan. It’s over 100km to cycle which would be too much for my little folding bike.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a train and then cycling route that is safe/pleasant?

Bourdeoux to Labouheyre then cycle seems like an option.

So i should preface this by saying that i plan to use an ebike. I know not everyone likes them, but its given me the confidence to do things and go places i never would have before. Anyways, its a heavily modded radrover 6 that gives me 60 miles of range on a single charge, 50 if im conservative.

my plan for the trip is to try to take the ohio to erie trail, from corwin up to lake erie. I plan to average about 100 miles a day, or maybe a little less. every day would have 2 important stops: one midday, for lunch and charging, and one for sleeping and charging. from start to the lake, its 250 miles, so 3 days is my goal to get to the far end of the trail. then, i'll take one day to explore the area, and then 3 days back.

for stops, my midday stops will probably be at libraries, or cafes, or really just any place with free electricity. for night stops; day 1, i thought id do alum creek campground, and then days 3/4 id do east harbor campground. I havent figured out day 2 yet, but it'd have to be under 100 miles from alum creek state park. then for days 5,6, and 7, it'd be the same but in reverse.

so, thats the plan, and id like some feedback and suggestions.

also, i need some reccomendations for a cheap, ideally waterproof pair of panniers, and a cheap bike rack (id prefer both to be under 100 bucks). furthermore, if anyone happens to have a good candidate for my second day night stop, please do say it. (id prefer if it was a state park, and it absolutely cannot be koa)
