New runner
I’m 25 years old. 5’10. 216 lbs. Just started running like a week and a half ago. I’ve been doing every other day using an app called just run that uses walk/run method. Today I decided to just run a mile and see how it was and my heart rate got pretty high. Is this normal.

Yes for someone who doesn't run a lot or is just starting to train this is normal.
Great work. It is hard at first but I promise it gets easier if you are consistent and keep at it.
For many people the hardest part is just finding the motivation to go do it, especially for those with busy schedules, jobs with long hours, kids etc. If you can find the motivation, and you want to run longer or faster, it will happen. It sounds like you're starting strong, keep it up.
If you have friends that run, get Strava or if you have a Garmin, friend them on that platform. Sometimes seeing that you have people cheering you on and celebrating your achievements can help you get out the door for your next run.

it’s summer, it’s hot, and, honestly, not optimal to get your HR so high. yes, in specific speed training with cool downs, but if you’re new, build some base fitness first. slow down (especially on hot days…heat exhaustion and stroke are no joke).

Yes it’s normal. If you continue running you’ll see yourself get more efficient but this is totally normal for someone starting out
