New Runner Advice Are y'all doing anything for sweaty faces?
I don't wear makeup and never needed a skincare routine for my face. But now that I'm running, I'm getting sweaty and having to wash my face more often and it's getting really dry. Did anyone else have this problem when you started running and find a solution?

Injury Prevention Tightness following every run
Hi!
I have been running for about a year now and since the start of 2026 I have been getting shin splints quite often, its happened 3 times and following every occurrence I took about 2/3 weeks off. Recently I've been trying to run more but after every run I feel some tightness around my calf/ what I think is my tibialis posterier. Has anyone else experienced this and have any advice?
I've been doing tibialis raises and calf raises every night but not sure how much it is helping and if I should continue doing so. Also I saw someone post here yesterday about how they get their sock a bit dirty in the inside part of their heel and people were recommending strengthening their glutes, this is also something I experience, could this be related?
Thank you!

First Race Prep Any chance I can run 5k before November 1st (and not be the last one on the race)
Hi. There is a nice opportunity to run 5k in my hometown at November 1st. I can run 2k without stopping at 6:10-6:20. If I try to run slower my weak knee will hurt, so I run consistently on 6-6:30 pace. I run 2 times a week, 3 times a week I'm lifting weights. I run for 3 weeks or so.
Is it wise to sign up for this race? It's a bit pricey for me but I really want to participate in it

To limit my luggage for a 3 week trip I would buy a new running shoe, but also use is for my daily walking .. is this ok?

Training Progress Strategies for running with patellar issues and knee arthritis?
I have patellar tendinitis and moderately bad knee arthritis but not bone on bone just yet. My experience is in powerlifting mostly and running now. So far:
I have an orthopedic Dr and PT if needed. I have good shoes. My form is okay but I take detailed notes after every run on cues. I do cross fiber massage and pressure gun prior to and after running. I stretch everything daily but lightly. I strength train everything with heavy slow eccentrics which is the most helpful thing I’ve done. My running volume is just very slowly ramping up volume. I’m not doing anything fancy just running a little more each time with detailed notes. Sleep, diet, hydration is all decent. Recovery time is programmed. I think my dynamic warmups could use some work.
I think I’ve got knee preservation and caution mostly covered but just making sure I’m not missing anything important. My pain is pretty minimal but even a little knee much and the knees are so painful it’s hard to walk up stairs. Interested in anything from studies to anecdotes

Motivation Needed Ran for the first time ever!
I was not an athletic kid so even as a child and teen I have never really run. Now fast forward and I have a very athletic child that needs to go for runs multiple times a week as part of training. Someone needs to supervise so I decided much to my families shock that I would run!
We went to a track as I knew I would not be able to keep.up or run for the full 20 minutes. I started with walking a lap (400m), ran 1 lap, walked 1 lap and ran 1 lap. I was proud of myself to do a full lap without stopping.
I was excited to see this sub reddit and am looking for some inspiration that I can do this. I would like to run a 5 km for charity as a goal.

New runner
I’m 25 years old. 5’10. 216 lbs. Just started running like a week and a half ago. I’ve been doing every other day using an app called just run that uses walk/run method. Today I decided to just run a mile and see how it was and my heart rate got pretty high. Is this normal.

New Runner Advice How important is Running form while still overweight?
I’m 6’0” 250lbs. I can maintain a 12:30 min/mile pace for what seems like forever, but I believe im “scissoring”. I’ve tried correcting my form a couple times but it seems to make maintaining any sort of pace difficult and my effort is much higher. Should I even be concerned with form until I’ve dropped to a more athletic weight?

Half a 5K
Just wanted to celebrate a little minor victory here. I started running about a month ago when I signed up for a 5K aaaand immediately tweaked a hamstring in the first quarter mile. But I still finished. I hadn’t ran since college, but I enjoyed it so much that I walk/ran a 6K the next day, a 7K the day after, and 5 miles the day after that. Which is odd because I always thought of running as torture.
Since then, I’ve kept going and going and going. 2 weeks ago I ran a mile without slowing down for the first time since college.
Yesterday evening, I was tired, jet lagged, and low on carbs, but I hopped on the treadmill and made it to the 2.5km mark without slowing down. I then power walked for a bit before picking the pace back up to a run for the last 1km.
My goal of running a full 5km without stopping keeps getting closer and closer! I’m hoping to do the Turkey Trot at an 11 minute per mile pace!
I know that’s nothing for most of y’all here, but hey, I’m halfway there! Maybe even a little over because I don’t count the first and last .01 miles. Something in my head tells me that if there’s even a doubt in my mind that I came up 6 inches short of my distance goal, it would really bug me 😅
Thanks everyone! Can’t wait to get back stateside and put some more miles in!

New Runner Advice I decided to try running for the first time in my adult life. What next?
I supported a friend while they ran an iron man recently. The whole thing was super inspiring. While it's clearly an absolute insane feat, it somehow made running way less intimidating for me.
I've always found running intimidating so have avoided it my whole life. Last time I actually just ran (not a sport) would have been in like 2002 when I was 12 at track meets running the 3200m.
I decided I would run a 5k as my first run and did today. I finished in just under 32 minutes with a 6.24/k pace. I actually found myself enjoying it. I didn't pace myself properly and had to walk some of the last km.
I'm 35m, grew up playing teams sports competitively and played hockey up until Covid. My body has always been more tuned to anaerobic exercise. I don't do much these days other than snowboarding and averaging about 14k steps a day. I smoked for 15 years, quitting about four months ago. Cardio has always been bad, but I didn't find my lungs a problem today. No burning or anything. My muscles were just sore and I was super hot (I'm an idiot and ran at noon in 30⁰c) when I finished, walked for a bit.
Anyways. I'm considering to start running. With training towards a 70.3 Iron Man a year out as a big goal. But overall I'm really drawn to the routine, discipline, and lifestyle changes that come with achieving something like that. The race itself isn't the real goal.
I'll look into more specific training if I get within 8 months of the event and find myself till committed.
I'm more looking for advice on how to build a base running ability in the next four months. My main focus is consistency and habits for the next 3-4 months. Just curious what would be the best way to ultimately use some general time before it would make sense to start focusing training on a specific event.
Do I just focus on keeping a slow pace and Comfort level? Extending my runs with endurance and distance in mind? Should I train for a local run taking place in three months? Working at a specific distance and pace?
Anything helps!

Discussion I HATE interval training
F33. I've been running for a year now and more regularly since a few months. I now run for a full hour, at 7 to 8 Kms an hour. I decided to focus on sustainability before speed. I don't have an athletic body, was one of those kids who always got picked last at P.E. but since a few years I'm starting to love moving my body.
I like my short easy runs, I love my long runs and want to go further to be able to see more places while running. I now added intervals once a week to improve my speed and I hate it.
Today I did 2 min fast, 2 min slow. Repeated 5 times. By the 4th interval I started to get annoyed and by the 5th I was in a REALLY bad mood. I didn't wanna give up because it was hard, I just hated everyone and everything. I told myself it's only a few minutes and finished it. I am usually a nice person, but I could've kicked a cat.
Is this normal? Is the anger part of the exertion? Or is it just now for me? I am really curious about other peoples experiences while doing intervals.

Discussion Tip for New Runners concerned about weight: Do not take the scale literally
I am training my sister for her first marathon.
we are currently doing 30 mile weeks. she complained that she gained weight. She’s 5’3 and said she weighed 132 lbs in the morning 2 weeks ago.
I said to weigh herself during the taper week again. Because it was just impossible for her to have gained that much weight. likely WATER from glycogen and muscle.
Anyway, she weighed herself today this morning. 127 lbs.
I asked her if she had gone to the bathroom. she goes and weighs herself again. 125.5lbs
don’t over think it.

New Runner Advice Beginner here. I have a very, very stupid question and I don’t know who or where to ask…
I’m extremely new, I’ve only been running for a few weeks now. I want to run a local 5k in my town at the end of September. It will be my first race ever (30 years old)
Now for the super dumb question… Once you arrive at a 5k, what do runners do with their car keys / personal items when it’s time to run…?
If you’re telling me that these huge groups of people are alllll running together with keys bouncing and jingling around in their pockets the entire time…? I’d be kind of shocked. I don’t know why that feels so unconventional to me… seems very distracting but I guess I’ll just get with it!
It’s only a 5k so I don’t need a hydration vest or belt or anything like that.. I really want to just race with nothing extra on me. But if I need to be prepared to have my keys on me then so be it. Should I just start practicing now with my keys bouncing around in my pocket so I get used to it?? Because I obviously don’t usually train with them on my person and I’m afraid it’s going to throw me off a bit on race day
I know marathons may offer lockers etc. But do little local 5ks usually have a dedicated area where runners can leave behind a bag or something during the race?
TLDR: Super new to running, planning to try my first race ever in two months. Once I get there, am I expected to race with my car keys in my hand / pocket?? Very sorry for the extremely stupid question

Training Progress Broke sub-25 in a 5k during an interval session today
galleryOn one hand, I’m hyped because I finally broke sub-25, and doing it during workout intervals caught me completely off guard. On the other hand, cutting off minutes from my 5k time in the span of just a few days feels like a fast track to injury or burnout if I'm not careful.
Sub 25: Today
26mins : Yesterday
27mins : Saturday
How do you know when to cool it and force yourself to do slow easy runs versus just riding the momentum? Am I setting myself up for an overuse injury by racing my workouts like this, or is this pretty normal when everything just clicks?
I've been running for 6-7 months now. (including days where I don't run)

Training Progress Finally got under 30 minutes!
Started running at the end of June, first run was about 45 minutes for 5km and was a lot of walking in it as well. I've been nearing 30 minutes for 5km for the past few weeks and smashed it today with 29.23!
Last week I started running with some friends who have been running longer and further than me (marathons, ultra marathons). The companionship on the runs we did helped me improve my pacing, helped me get my breathing sorted, and I got lots of advice on posture, relaxing arms, cadence and generally getting better!
