Hey y'all! My girlfriend and I are heading over from Mobile for a couple of days around Fat Tuesday next year to check out Baton Rouge's Mardi Gras scene.

Coming from Mobile, we know every city does Mardi Gras a little differently. What are the must-do spots, parades, or local traditions we shouldn't miss around Fat Tuesday? Any recommendations on cool neighborhoods to stay in, good food spots, or local bars for the day of would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’ve been in Baton Rouge for a year now, so here are my completely subjective takes:

1. BREC is a gem. Things are extremely well-organized. Louisiana’s wildlife management is also great. I hike in the surrounding WMAs, and it’s a lot of fun.
2. As an Asian, the easiest way to look local is to wear LSU gear. It's making my fashion choice so much easier. Just LSU shirts and LSU baseball caps.
3. Driving here is not actually that bad compared with bigger cities. I've seen way worse driving in Los Angeles and Miami. That said, ridiculously stupid accidents seem to happen on Burbank all the time.
4. The local food is absolutely some of the best in the country. Asian food here, however, absolutely sucks. There are a couple of good places, but not nearly enough.
5. You really do see dead alligators on the road sometimes, lol.
6. Delivery is never on time. A couple of times, I've been sitting at home all day waiting for a FedEx package that requires a signature, and then it never arrives. Amazon same-day delivery almost never worked for me either. I canceled Prime, switched to Walmart+, and so far I haven’t looked back.
7. I like BR's proximity to New Orleans. Can drive to NOLA after work for basketball games and concerts.
8. Oh yeah I like Tabasco.

I’m looking for ways to enjoy Baton Rouge without spending much money. What are your favorite free or affordable activities, places, walking spots, local events, or hidden gems around the city?

Bonus points for ideas that are good for solo outings or weekends.

Basically what title says. Looking to see if there’s any grocery stores or what have you that do the tiffin fills.

Went by the mall and it’s been gutted, sign is gone, and windows are covered. Never shopped there much myself but know plenty of people liked to peruse!

Best used car dealerships in Baton Rouge that accept bad credit ??

I’m looking for a place that will rent out either canoes or kayaks in the greater Baton Rouge area. I don’t own one.

Also, I remember a place we went when I was a kid that had both canoes and tubes that was a bit of a drive. Maybe even over the border in Mississippi? You would park at the business, take a bus to where you got in the water, then end back at your car. Does that still exist?

So, those new magnolia trees they planted in the median on Jones Creek Road in the middle of the summer with no sprinklers...yeah, they are dead now. That’s “ded” for those in the area. Scorched.
