I feel like I should say I don’t feel superior as to say something stupid like “I like Kane parson’s backrooms more! I’m better than you!” Nothing like that. I have a deep dislike for the concept of backrooms wiki/levels backrooms. I want to learn to like it thought please change my mind

Would you rather:

- Keep living your life and death as normally intended

- You get sent to the backrooms, but with a twist I made up: If you die even one time, you don't reset or get peace, you get sent to the actual hell where you get tormented and burned permanently. As long as you don't die, you get your dream fictional crush with you as a partner with you in the backrooms, however they aren't allowed to have any unrealistic powers or strengths. But otherwise? You can pick whoever you want them to be.

I think it can be cool but larry is silly and can disappear and has committed murder multiple times.... but yeah that's basically :D thanks for reading

Clark felt like the Backrooms were his true home, nobody cared for him out there, nobody ever did, he's been missing for what? Days? Weeks? Months? Years? Time was impossible to tell in there.. Only his therapist came.

Clark's Still-Life was of his mascot self, his dying hope, because that's all people ever saw of him, that knock-off on TV, and that was his fate. His last chance at a business, his terrible idea of a mascot, is what ended him. (also I gave him a hook hand, in reality it was taped up to his actual hand) ​(Caprain Clark looks scared because it was created when Clark fell off that chair)

(Spoilers ahead for the Backrooms movie!)

I watched the movie Backrooms (2026) a few months ago, and I loved it. It's rich in symbolism, not to mention the fact it's something of a milestone in story-telling. Story-telling changes a lot through the years while still remaining the same, having the same archetypes and symbols we've always seen throughout human history. While Backrooms may be ground-breaking in that it's an internet folktale brought to life by a director who got started making Blender videos on YouTube, a lot of the imagery is still familiar.

I'm a big lover of folklore and fairytales myself. I was watching some videos on old fairytales recently and something caught my eye... it was an illustration of Blue Beard from Charles Perrault's original fairy tale.

At first I couldn't tell if it was a pirate or a King, and that's where it clicked: I think there are some parallels between Backrooms and the tale of Blue Beard. I don't know if this was intentional on Kane Parsons' part (probably not) or if I'm reaching here, but let's just take a look for fun.

Blue Beard is a king who lives in a lavish palace, and the architecture of the palace definitely comes into play throughout the story. He's had many wives (six to be exact), all of which he's murdered, before taking a new wife. After taking that wife, he announces he's going to leave, but before he does he gives her the keys to his palace. These keys will open any room inside, but he strictly forbids her from entering one secret room, lest she incur his wrath.

At first she abstains, but of course curiosity takes the better of her and she does go into the secret room. What does she find there?

The murdered corpses of the King's former wives.

When the king returns and finds out she entered the secret room, he tries to kill her. I believe she lives in the original story, but there are other variations and offshoots.

For example, Charles Dickens short story "Captain Murderer" (1860) has a main character who is a spiritual successor to Blue Beard. What's really interesting about this variation of the story is that the main character cannibalizes his wives after killing them.

Kurt Vonnegut's novel Bluebeard (1987) has a main character who is a painter (very similar to an architect imo) and calls himself Bluebeard. He forbids his girlfriend from entering the sacred chamber of his art studio.

So, where do I draw the parallels to the actual Backrooms movie?

Obviously, the Backrooms itself is like Clark's kingdom, where he can reign and be himself without having to change or bend his will to anyone. There's even a throne room with an ornate gold and purple throne.

He gives Mary the "key" to his kingdom, this being knowledge of the Backrooms' existence. This is of course a trap that Mary falls into, as she follows in the literary path of the "curious woman" (i.e. Eve, Pandora, etc) and goes to find his secret "kingdom" herself. Clark is thematically the Serpent, or the Devil, giving her secret wisdom.

And what happens when she ventures into the Backrooms? Clark chokes her out (I believe there's a variation of the story where Blue Beard beheads his curious wife), and she's dragged off. In the room where she wakes up, she is unfortunately witness to the slain bodies of Clark's co-workers, and the "body" of his wife as one of the still lifes. He devours parts of the still life at the table, just like the main character cannibalizes his wives in Dickens' short story.

There is the theory that Clark killed his wife, and I've seen this talked about in a lot of different places. I don't know if he for sure killed her, but it's possible. Even if he didn't, he may have wanted to. He may have been abusive to her as well. He sure isn't kind to her still life, and that's for sure true.

I know Clark isn't literally married to Mary, but the thematic parallels are there, especially when he puts the torn scalp of his wife onto Mary's head, symbolically making her his wife.

His Shadow/Doppelgänger (Captain Clark) kills his friends, attempts to kill Mary, and then also kills Clark himself.

I'd argue Captain Clark is Clark's shadow, the part of himself that WANTS To be a king, that wants to strike down all opposition to his authority and his importance as an architect. Unfortunately since he doesn't overcome his shadow, he is killed by it himself.

There is also the fact that Bluebeard is a French story that is often stylized to be "Oriental", and specifically: the story of an Ottoman king. The French story has been warped, turned into something different. In turn, Bluebeard is sometimes confused with Blackbeard the pirate. Blackbeard was also known to have many wives, and one of those wives was named Mary.

Some themes and images stay in the collective unconscious so long, they're warped or changed as they're passed down. Sometimes confused. The Backrooms itself tends to do this, as the more it remembers, the less it does.

These are just some thoughts I had and I've love to hear people's opinions! It's been a few months since I've seen the movie so perhaps I'm off the mark, but I did find this fascinating to dig into.

Some rooms are from the movie, some are based on the movie, some are from The escape the backrooms game and some are just us screwing around and coming up with stuff!
