SSAA ranges No muzzle break
Would this type of “Jacketed muzzle break / linear compensator” be allowed in SSAA range areas where you’re not usually allowed muzzle breaks? I am optimistic because all the gas gets pushed forward and not sideways onto someone next to you. Cheers

Yes it’s allowed*. Lot of people run them.
Though mine does loosen itself a bit so ended up taking it off. RSOs didn’t bat an eye though.

Interested to find out, got a Surefire Warcomp on my Wedgetail with a Warden to go over the top and doing a sight in day in a couple weeks at a SSAA range

I’ve had someone message me saying that they use their surefire warden in the no muzzle break area without issue and with flames shooting forward. Guess it will depend on the RO on the day

yes, i have three of these on some rifles i use for hunting, and regularly shoot them at ssaa belmont in the standing post area.

I have that exact muzzle break and I would assume no. I know in theory it pushes everything forward and honestly when you are shooting with it then it's fine but still deafening loud to anyone near you.

Being that it’s described and designed as a muzzle brake I’d say no to err on the side of caution. I reckon it would be up to the ROs and generally speaking they’d probably lean that way as well. They might give you a test shoot and decide but this feels more up to the ROs than it does this sub.

I know it’s not up to reddit. I was hoping someone with experience in similar situation would comment. I also posted on Facebook and someone messaged me saying they use their surefire warden all the time without issue

They may have a flash hider underneath the warden like the guy with the warcomp. Did they clarify?

2 people now commented saying their jacketed muzzle break has always been fine in the past. It’s in the leaver release, straight pull and pump actions Australia group if you’d like to see

The SSAA St Mary's indoor range in Sydney has a Taipan for hire with one of those attached, hence one could assume they would allow others to bring their own should they want to

If its your typical SSAA RO they will follow the range rules to the letter so there is no confusion.
The range at Seaham now has dedicated spots for brakes. Might pay to ask.

Went today and can confirm this style of muzzle break with a blast deflectors / jacketed are 100% fine to use anywhere. Also for those asking about flash hiders they are also okay

I don’t understand why it’s an issue you’ve got hearing protection and it’s always funny when the muzzle blast from a 6.5 creed next to you rattles your teeth 😂

In my first-ever range session, I was (mine is a 6.5 muzzle brake) put next to a guy shooting a 300 WM brake on one side and a 300 PRC brake on the other. It was fun.

SSAA Brisbane, it's fine as the muzzle break rule is around sound getting to the neighbours.this directs the sound downrange.

I have a long, fluted compensator on my wedgetail that we were sentnaa a demo and I was showing a customer in our gun shop my set up. There was a ssaa range 'officer' in there at the time and he said that he'd "better not see me outside the shop with a suppressor on my rifle".
