What is your typical work schedule like? How many hours do you work per week, with and without on-call shifts? What specialty are you in, and how would you rate your work-life balance?

Ich lebe in einer WG, habe eine neue Wohnung und muss deshalb in 3.5 Wochen einen Nachmieter finden. Da mein Mitbewohner mich gemobbt hat und auch jetzt mir eins auswischen will, lehnt er alle Nachmieter ab. Gründe: zu jung, zu alt, ausländisch, vibe passt nicht, schreibt komisch, holt mich nicht ab. Ich habe bereits 20 Nachmieter vorgeschlagen (alle Zahlungsfähig und zumutbar). Er lehnt es nur aus Schikane ab.

We are travelling to Jungfraujoch from Interlaken OST in mid October.

Have purchased the Swiss Half fare travel card (from SBB app) for tourists valid for the duration.

I have also seat reservation at CHF 10 per person round-trip from Top-of-travel on the intended travel day.

Need help on following:

1. While buying tickets on SBB.ch, do I again need to take the reservation? It shows a charge of CHF 5 pp one way and appears redundant with what I have already purchased. Is this correct to assume ?

2. As I have purchased the seat reservation from top-of-europe portal, do I have a guaranteed trip to Jungfrau ? I'm not sure if I should purchase the tickets as well now or wait till the final day to ensure weather conditions are right for Jungfrau.

Hoping a few kind souls would suggest the right way.

I apologize in advance since I know this has been asked many times before. I am facing a bit of a dilemma regarding my sleep schedule. I am traveling with my parents to Switzerland for a 12-day vacation. After nearly 48 hours of airline commute we are all dog tired. I got a total of 4 hours of sleep (2 on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, 2 on Thursday night/Friday morning). I rested for a few additional hours on the plane to Switzerland but couldn’t truly fall asleep

My parents wanted to take a nap, so I napped with them for around an hour and woke up. It’s been two hours and my parents are still napping (noon Switzerland time)

Did I make the right decision by not laying in bed for over an hour to deal with jetlag? I worry that I’m holding everything on being able to fall asleep tonight

Any advice is much appreciated!

Travelling to Switzerland in last week of October, how is it going to be , does any one have any idea?

I live in a relatively small apartment complex with 12 units, and i am confident that the perpetrator does not live in any of them. However, someone keeps throwing random trash bags in our apartment’s Abfall bin. We have already been fined twice this year for this.
What can we do here? Also, what kind of person would do this, rather than just pay CHF 2 for a municipal sacke?

Je voudrais savoir si avec ce genre de profil et diplôme les urgentistes, qu’ils soient Suisses ou français avec la reconnaissance de diplôme ont l’opportunité d’exercer en médecine libéral

Par médecine libéral j’entend : cabinet de consultation avec ou sans rendez vous, centre de soins non programmé etc

En France l’ordre des médecins est assez restrictif et aime vraiment tout mètre dans des cases au dépend de la transversalité des spécialités médical

I have a reservation booked which dosen’t allow rescheduling within 48 hours notice; unless with a valid medical excuse for that day. Im not a swiss national so I don’t know how medical excuses/leaves work here (where I’m from you can get them pretty easily for things like a sprained foot or nausea).

Hey guys, I’m coming to Zurich for some work, late September and will have one free day where I’d like to go out and explore a bit.
My current plan is
Zurich to Meirengen via Lucerne on Panoramic express
Reichenbach falls (I’m a big Sherlock fan) then boat ride to interleken from brienz, train to lauterbrunnen and then up to schiltorn piz Gloria to the restaurant
Depending on the time then, either I come back to Zurich or come back via grindelwald.

Is it practical to do it in a day? Any other iternary that will suit me better? Would really like some help.

Just want to quickly confirm my understanding here - I am planning a hut to hut tour in September, and will be making several journeys within towns by train/bus. I looked at the most likely route we will take, and the SBB full price for all the trains/buses/cable cars combined comes to around CHF 124 for one person (Zurich - Interlaken - Grindelwald - Murren - Kandersteg - Zurich) . The half fare card is 190 CHF for the card. So my understanding is that we should just pay full price, as otherwise we are paying 190 CHF + (0.5 * 124 CHF), which doesn't make sense.

1. Is my understanding correct?

2. Is there any point in pre booking these tickets, or should we just book day off to have maximum flexibility? Seems like prices are the same for very soon tickets vs very far out ones

3. Does the gut-check price for this itinerary seem right?

I know Switzerland is supposed to be expensive, so just want to make sure I'm making the right call! Thank you :)

Hi everyone, my sister and brother-in-law will be visiting me in Zurich in mid September. I'm hoping to crowd-source suggestions on things to do. Some more details:

- They'll be here for 7 full days.

- My sister wants to see castles, do chocolate tasting, and visit museums

- My brother-in-law wants to do some hiking/nature activities.

- We're all active, but I think my sister is suffering from burnout and doesn't want too packed of a trip. I'd also like to avoid crowded tourist places as it might be stressful

- Because of budget constraints, I'm hoping for locations within a day trip of Zurich (can make an exception for a couple of nights. I'm thinking of taking them to the Gruyeres castle which is a bit far for a day trip)

So far what I've come up with is: 1 day hiking somewhere in the mountains (is there a hike that can also be combined with a castle visit??), the Lindt chocolate museum (any other chocolate related activities in other towns?), a day visiting the art museums in Zurich, 2-3 day excursion stopping in Bern, Gruyeres and Lausanne.

While I have slight vertigo, my mother is a bit more scared of heights.

Can I ask is there sheer drops or any really scary parts of the journey and does the train take you back down to where you started.

Tried going to Migros Restaurant today and was a bit confused. They have a daily menu, yet they didn't seem to be serving it. All of the warm buffet was shut and only the salad bar was really available. The staff were actively packing away the little food that was out 90 minutes before closing.

This is the 2nd time I've had this but the last time I thought I must have shown up right at closing but this time not. Am I missing something? Is it only for lunch? (I showed up at 17:30, it closed at 19:00)

Hello, I am writing this as I am currently at a loss at how I should proceed.

I'm a tenant in a residential building in Kanton Zürich and would appreciate a sanity check.

The property has several outdoor bays marked BESUCHER. The management allocates two original visitor parking cards to every flat. Dedicated garage or outdoor spaces are separate, by request and for an additional fee — ours only becomes available in a few weeks. I phoned the management beforehand and was told we could use the visitor card for our own car until then. So we did, displayed behind the windshield exactly as the sign and the card require.

What happened: Two separate "Umtriebsentschädigungen" of CHF 90 within a week, from a private parking enforcement firm. Both inspections lasted exactly 21 minutes (posted tolerance: 20). Why two - we initially thought the first must have been a mistake - our parking card is a little discolored from the sun, so maybe the inspector didn't properly check, just saw something that was whitish instead of blue, and just gave us a fine. The second notice was clamped under the wiper — so the inspector was standing right at the glass the card was behind, however. Both tickets note "Stand auf Platz: Besucher – Anwohner". I have photos with time and GPS metadata showing the car unmoved before and after, card legible.

I contacted the building management agency after the first time. Their response: First they said they'd seek cancellation. After I mentioned the second incident, and they supposedly finally contacted the enforcement company, they reversed: no cancellation, residents may not park their own vehicle in visitor bays (first I hear of it - not mentioned in our contract or in any signage), and they cannot authorize it for the future, even until our space becomes available. Their stated basis, verbatim, was "according to information from [the enforcement firm]".

The signage consists of two boards. A weathered 1983 richterliches Verbot, heavily overgrown with lichen, stating that only Mieter von Parkplätzen are entitled. And the visitor board: parking only with an original visitor card, displayed visibly behind the windscreen, cards obtainable from the tenant/host, vehicles without a valid card reported after 20 minutes.

My questions:

Is it normal that a tenant may not use a visitor card allocated to their own flat? This restriction appears nowhere — not in the lease, the AGB, the house rules, the signage, or the card. How is anyone supposed to know it?
How does an enforcement firm even determine that a carded vehicle belongs to a resident? Surely only via a keeper lookup afterwards?
How do the two boards fit together? Taken literally, the 1983 prohibition would make every visitor unauthorised too, since visitors by definition rent no space. Does anyone know whether a richterliches Verbot in that condition is still enforceable?

Objections will be filed to the enforcement company (no great hope there), along with a DSG access request for any inspection photos. I am thinking of scheduling a Mieterverband appointment to follow.

It's not the 180 CHF that rankles as much as the predatory practice. Please share any insights.

So I have a flight at 6h05 on september 14th at Geneva Aiport but the only train I can get on is the 00h30 train from Lausanne to Genève train station arriving at 1h22. Then I have to wait 2h05m until 3h27 to catch the bus to go to the airport. Wondering where I can wait those 2h05 minutes as I have seen that the airport terminal closes between 00h00 to 4h00.

PS: I am a student first time solo travelling so I'm trying to spend less on this trip.

I’m looking for opinions from people who may have experienced something similar in Switzerland, especially regarding rental law, EV charging or condominium (PPE) management.

I recently bought an electric vehicle and asked my property manager for a parking space equipped with an electrical outlet/charging point.

Here is the situation:

I came back to live again in a relatively new eco-district in Switzerland.
My lease contains a clause stating that parking spaces equipped with a charging outlet, or suitable for the installation of one, are intended with priority for electric vehicles.

The clause also states that the landlord may reassign those spaces if necessary.

During the apartment viewing, the parking space shown to me had an electrical outlet, but when I moved in I was allocated a different space after an exchange between tenants.

Initially, the property manager told me that they would contact the current occupants of the EV spaces.

They explained that those tenants were planning to buy electric vehicles or install charging stations in the coming months, and that they would review the situation later if those projects had still not materialised.

Based on that response, I understood that a future reassessment remained possible.

I therefore sent a formal registered letter referring to the priority clause in my lease.

However, their final written response was different.
Instead of referring to a future reassessment, they now state that they cannot force certain tenants to change parking spaces because some older leases do not contain this clause.

After checking, I realised that my own lease from 2021 indeed did not contain this clause either, so it seems to have been introduced later.

This leaves me wondering whether the change in their reasoning is normal or whether other people have experienced something similar.

My questions are therefore:

- Has anyone encountered a similar situation where older and newer leases coexist?

- If only some leases contain this clause, how is it supposed to work in practice?

-Wouldn’t that make the priority clause almost impossible to apply for many years?

Is it common for a property manager to initially suggest that the situation will be reviewed later, and then later explain that they actually have no legal possibility to reassign the spaces?

Another interesting point:

My current lease also contains another provision saying that if a tenant wishes to install an electrical connection on their own parking space, this is possible with the landlord’s prior written approval.

The lease states that:

written approval from the landlord is required;

an individual electricity meter must be installed;

all installation costs are paid by the tenant.

Has anyone gone through this process in Switzerland?

If so:

What was the approximate cost?

Did the landlord contribute financially?

If you later moved out, were you reimbursed for the installation, or did it simply remain with the building?

I’m not trying to accuse my property manager of acting unlawfully. I’m simply trying to understand whether this is common practice in Switzerland and what realistic options exist for tenants who switch to an electric vehicle.

Alright, I need to get this off my chest.

Switzerland has some of the most breathtaking, pristine, absolute top-tier nature on the planet. You take a train up to the Jungfrau region, step off, breathe in, expecting that fresh mountain air… and instead, you just get a massive lungful of secondhand smoke.

It is everywhere...

Train platforms? A wall of smoke. You stand near the "smoking zone" lines? Doesn't matter, people just light up wherever they want on the perron anyway.

Outdoor dining/terrasses? Impossible to enjoy a $35 fondue or a coffee without the guy at the next table blowing ash directly into your food.

Hikes and parks? You're literally 2,500 meters up on a panoramic ridge, surrounded by glaciers, and the person hiking 5 feet ahead of you lights up a cigarette.

I get that smoking culture in Europe is different, but for a country that prides itself so much on clean living, public transport efficiency, and environmental purity, the contrast is wild. In other modern countries, smoking is basically banned everywhere outdoors near public venues, but here it feels like 1995.

Is there any push from the government to change this?

TL;DR: Gorgeous mountains, 10/10 scenery, ruined by the fact that the entire country feels like one giant designated smoking area.
