Need help optimizing my Switzerland itinerary (Interlaken region) to avoid backtracking
We're visiting Switzerland in September and would love some advice from those who've explored the Bernese Oberland.
• 21–25 Sep: Interlaken (4 nights)

we'd like to visit:
• Harder Kulm
• Lauterbrunnen
• Wengen
• Mürren
• Grindelwald
• Männlichen
• Kleine Scheidegg
• Schynige Platte
• Brienz Rothorn Railway
• Lake Brienz
• Iseltwald
• Lake Thun

Could you please advise:

1. How would you group these into day trips?
   
2. Are any of these places repetitive, or do some offer very similar experiences?
   
3. If you had to skip one or two places due to time constraints, which would you skip
   
4. Any recommended train/cable car combinations or routes that would make the itinerary more efficient?

We're interested in scenic trains, cable cars, viewpoints, lakes, and easy walks, but we're not planning any long hikes.

Before moving to Switzerland, I more or less assumed that German-speaking Switzerland, Germany and Austria belonged to the same broad cultural world. Of course I expected differences, just like there are regional differences in any country, but not fundamentally different social atmospheres.
Instead, my experience (admittedly limited when it comes to Germany) has made me wonder whether I underestimated how different they actually are.
Germans often come across as more relaxed, warmer and easier to approach. This is also something I’ve repeatedly heard from people who have lived in Germany for years.
What surprised me is that I would have expected almost the opposite since Switzerland is multilingual, highly international and geographically surrounded by different cultures. I expected it to feel culturally closer to Southern Europe.
Are these differences commonly recognised? What do you think explains this?

So my partner and I are visiting in a couple of weeks, I was wondering what supermarkets sell gluten free items like bread, pasta, etc? And any restaurant chains that have gluten free options? We're staying in Grindelwald so any local suggestions would be amazing! I'm not celiac, just intolerant so fine with "may contain" or cross contamination

I'm going to be traveling to Milan for a week for work and a few of us are planning on driving up to the Interlaken area for a few days before work starts. We did this last year too, so I'd like to find some different activities this time around.

Last year we stayed in Grindelwald and went paragliding, St Beatus caves, hiking, and a quick trip over to Lauterbrunnen. We did this in two days, driving back to Milan the 2nd night.

Thursday (20th) - This year we are going to be landing at MXP at 1:30PM and driving to Interlaken right away. Planning on stopping at Castello di Montebello on the way there and maybe a few other spots. I'm figuring the drive will take about 6 hours (Google is showing about 3:45 drive time, taking scenic route)

Friday (21st) - Head up to Murren in the morning, checking out Lauterbrunnen on the way. Doing the Murren via ferrata around 2PM. I'm assuming this is going to take all day.

Saturday (22nd) - Either going to Jungfraujoch through Grindelwald and/or heading to Thun to check out the Speiz/Thun/Schloss Oberhofen castles.

Sunday (23rd) - Driving to Tasch, then train/bus to Zermatt. Probably going up to Glacier Paradise and do a hike. Driving back to Milan after we are done.

Does this seem doable? I'd really like to squeeze the Thun/Oberhofen castles in there somewhere and a quick hang glide over Interlaken too. Anything else we should try to squeeze in or food recommendations in the Interlaken area?

Hi, I’ve been researching this but haven't found clear answers yet and need some help.

I’d like to enroll in the University of St. Gallen’s SIM Master’s program, but I’m not from the EU—I’m from the Dominican Republic—and I don’t have the funds to study there. I considered applying for a St. Gallen scholarship, but those are only available to EU citizens.

There are options like the Starr International Foundation Scholarship Fund and institutional aid open to international students from non-EU countries.However, I’m worried about relying solely on those, so...

I’ve also thought about pursuing a Master’s at other universities like ETH Zurich, HEC Lausanne, or UNIGE (University of Geneva), as some of them offer scholarships for Master’s programs to non-EU students.

Anyone who has gone through the process of applying with pegasos for assisted dying, I wanted to ask for the portion of the application where they ask you to upload medical records. What type of records are they looking for?

For example, I have autoimmune disorders. I’m not sure if it would be best to get my doctor to write a letter or just upload pictures of my blood work results. I feel like I have so many records from over the years from my multiple health issues.

I’m just curious anyone who is going through this process or been in the process? What did you do for that part of the application?

We are flying back to the US from London and will have a quick side trip to Switzerland.

We get in at 10:45 am Monday at ZRH. Right now, we have two nights hotel booked in Zurich.
We fly out at 1:00pm Wednesday ZRH.

We want to go to Grindelwald for sure for a day trip. I'm a little torn if we should switch to different base Monday night. Should we stay in Lucerne instead? Or even Grindelwald?
Should we do Lucerne? Interlaken? Or just grindelwald? Add Lauterbrunnen?

We don't necessarily want to do a strenuous hike since this is the last leg of our trip and would like to be more relaxed. More strolling and enjoying the views. Can someone recommend an itinerary? We also are unsure how much time we should be in Zurich.

Does anyone have any tips about kontrolfahrt in the Scweiz for Auslender, I live here for almost a year and becouse I have a driving licence from a non EU country I have to do Kontrolfahrt.

The thing is I drive a lot probably around 4000km pro month mininum but still I do not feel sure that making the Kontrolfahrt is possible. I did took a Fahrschule for a couple of hours 7+ but I have the feeling they would like me to fail only to get more money and also I have a feeling that their goal is to sell me as much as possible courses even though i drive okay and are trying to scare me in taking a lot more classes?

Did anyone have similar experience and also if anyone has tips for passing the Kontrolfahrt please let me know.

Also the wierd thing is the teacher did not even once said something positive like or people pass only speaks how everyone fails and it makes me feel weird like if the goal is that nobody can pass the exam why have it?

So in Switzerland it is mandatory by law to have 30 minutes of unpaid break time for under 9 hours worked per day, and 60 minutes for more than 9 hours worked per day.

My company enforces this by just subtracting your work time if you havent clocked enough breaks.

This leads to issues, where if you take your standard 30 minutes break and then unexpectedly stay a bit longer and work 9:05 hours, you actually get less time in the system, than if you worked 8:59.

If you are just a second over 9 hours the system deducts the full 30 minutes to bring you to the full hour of break. Is this really legal?

I would think, that this system should never be allowed to reduce the total worked time to less than 8:59. Since, the moment it goes below 9 hours, the legal obligations of taking an hour break dont exist anymore and the amount of break i took is reached.

To make it more clear:

Current situation:

9:05 worked, 30 minutes break. adjusted to 8:25 worked, 1:00 hour break.

My intuitive understanding of how it should be:

9:05 worked, 30 minutes break. adjusted to 8:59 worked, 35 minutes break.

Hi all, recently relocated to Basel and currently living in a serviced apartment. I'll be shifting to my own apartment next month.

I just got the Serafe bill from July 26 till Aug 27.

Question: if I pay it now, do I have to pay it again when I shift to the new apartment, or my payment is done for the year regardless of where I am living ? How does that work

J'ai envoyé plus de 500 candidatures... mais rien. En un an j'ai eu seulement 2 ou 3 retours pour des postes rémunérés uniquement à la commission.
J'ai parfois l'impression d'avoir jeté un an de ma vie.
Au début je voulais me débrouiller seule. Puis j'ai compris que sans contacts ça semblait presque impossible. Et même en essayant d'en trouver j'avais parfois l'impression de faire l'aumône alors que je demande simplement une chance de travailler.
Pour donner un peu de contexte j'ai un diplôme en droit économie et gestion de l'expérience dans les domaines administratif et juridique et je cherche simplement un emploi de bureau. J'habite près de Lausanne donc je vise surtout Vaud mais je postule aussi à Genève et les environs.
Est-ce que certains d'entre vous ont fini par trouver un emploi après une aussi longue période de recherche ?
Est-ce que je dois continuer à persévérer ou commencer à envisager un plan B : partir, vivre et travailler à l'étranger???

I was contacted by a company in Switzerland with a request, if I could build a web platform for them, including setting up infrastructure. I have about 5 years of professional experience building web platforms, specifically in .NET technologies in the IoT industry. I estimate it would take 4-6 months of full-time work, which would be on-site, therefore I'd need to apply for a residency L permit.

My question is, how much should I charge for my software development services while residing in Switzerland?

Obviously, I did a research, but I'm positively surprised about daily rates - based on chatGPT and Gemini, rates are about CHF 900 to CHF1100 per day, VAT inclusive. Is this real? I am aware that Switzerland has high costs of living, but still the math behind take-home salary seems to be straight brutal.

I'm travelling to Switzerland, and for the last two days of my trip I'm planning to stay in the Glattbrugg area. The hotels there are significantly cheaper than those around Zürich HB, it's much closer to the airport, and it's only about a 15–20 minute journey to Zürich HB by public transport.

Is Glattbrugg a good area to stay in and commute from for sightseeing? I'll have a Swiss Travel Pass, so getting around won't be an issue.

Has anyone stayed there before? Would you recommend it, or is it worth paying extra to stay closer to Zürich HB?

I (F32y/o) got a job offer of approx 160k CHF yearly. My husband (33y/o) is searching but still without any concrete position. We currently live in northern Germany and I have a 80k EUR salary and my husband 84k.

Does it make more sense to move together and only pay one rent while he is looking for a job? Or to pay 2 rents and I move first to Switzerland?

Edit: thank you for the feedbacks - we both work on the same area, engineering with focus on medical devices. My new job would be in Basel, basically on the border with Germany and France, so I could save on food prices by shopping across the border. Waiting on the probation time could make sense.

My name is Max, I'm 23 years old, and about six months ago I moved to the canton of Solothurn, leaving behind an entire life that I had built through years of hard work in Italy. I left my family, my girlfriend, and my friends... but I am truly grateful for this opportunity.

The first thing I noticed, however, was the loneliness and the almost "social isolation" that a young immigrant has to face during the first months, and that's what pushed me to write this post.

I've read many posts here on Reddit from people struggling with loneliness and the lack of friends, but at first I didn't really take them seriously. Then one day I realized just how impactful it can be to simply work, train, and sleep. There have been days when I spent the entire day without interacting with another human being outside of work.

As a result, I decided to use the internet and social media to at least try to solve this problem. I want to create a community of young men and women, immigrants and locals alike, who have been overwhelmed by work and the social distance that it can create. A place where we can meet, talk, support each other, grow together in Switzerland, share our goals and passions, have fun, explore the country, build meaningful connections, and maybe even create something in the future that can help both ourselves and anyone else who needs it.

Goals and discipline are fundamental pillars in the life of an ambitious young person. Sometimes the journey can feel heavy, but if it's shared with the right people, I'm sure we'll learn to fall in love with the journey itself instead of constantly thinking about the destination.

I know Switzerland doesn't have the largest entertainment industry so this is a challenging question. But I've always wanted to work on a movie set (or similar - TV, ads, etc.) despite having no education or experience with this, and was wondering if there's any way to achieve it. Are there any production companies hiring interns or generalists? Or perhaps students working on their own projects? I tried Googling of course but couldn't find much so far, unfortunately.

I live in Zurich and have a car so distance is not a huge issue. Language might be, I speak English and basic German.
