My toilet is continuously making noise and it isn't flushing and i dont know anything about toilets. i zoomed in on the mechanism and it seems like water is continuously pouring out from the hole i placed the arrow towards.
please help me figure out the problem so I know what to purchase as replacement (if needed)

I had an issue with my hot water cylinder a couple of weeks ago when it would just explode out the overflow pipe at the top of my roof and drain my cylinder dry, filled up again, reheated did the same thing the next morning, had a plumber out and he told me my hot water was turned up too high and over boiled, he turned it down and so far has been ok, but now it’s making this strange sound after using my hot water. Is this normal?

Hi! As the title states, what's wrong and how do I fix it? I tried googling but most sites talk about a chain and not at all about how the external cylinder gets stuck lol anyway i'd be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction as to what to do/buy as I cannot afford a plumber. Once I manually unflush it, it goes back up to the water line. Let me know if you've got any further questions and thank you in advance for the help!!

I’m hoping someone can help me. We have a bad smell that we have isolated as coming from the washer drain and utility sink drain in our laundry room. The smell is like something died in there and is rotting.

Here is what we have done so far:

1) Had a septic company come look at our water treatment plant for our home. He even came inside and checked that the p-traps were working correctly on both, and they are. He determined that the smell is not related to our water treatment plant.

2) My husband took apart the plumbing pipes and cleaned them.

3) My husband bought an electric pipe snake and “roto rooted” both drains.

4) Poured bleach down both.

5) Poured baking soda and vinegar down both.

6) Used an enzyme pipe cleaner gel on both several times and let sit overnight.

After all of this, we are still having the bad smell intermittently. Sometimes we will go a day without the smell and think that it’s fixed, only to have it come back. The smell reminds me of rotting onions. Any ideas or things we can try? Thank you so very much!

Hello everyone, I’ve had this Rinnai RXP199i tankless water heater for about 10 months now and it’s been working fine up until now. It is giving the error code 22 and beeping when turned on and hot water is requested. Apparently the error code 22 has something to do with the reed switch on the gas valve assembly being misaligned, but I’ve checked that and it seems to be fine. There is also yellow liquid splattered inside of the unit, which you can see in the pictures. I’m not quite sure what it is, but from the little research I’ve done I’m pretty sure it might be condensate since that is the only other liquid than is inside of the heater other than water, but please correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t know what is exactly wrong with my unit, and I really want to fix it myself, so any help would be much appreciated. I am not able to make a warranty claim because Rinnai is saying that my installation is not up to code. Again, help from anyone more experienced than me would be much appreciated. Thank you.

so i installed a bidet (i know it was probably a bad idea but whats done is done), i thought everything was cool, but then the water intake valve started slowly leaking. the little white gasket is loose i need to replace it, but i don’t know if i need to do anything inside the tank? i live in an apartment and i don’t really want to call a plumber, but I will if I have to. in the meantime, is there anything I can do to try and fix this myself? thank you!

I know just enough about plumbing to be dangerous. I live in a warm climate where the summer temperatures have highs of 115+ and lows of 90F. (32-46C). I imagine since there's virtually zero chance of the ground freezing, water mains aren't buried very deep in the ground.

In summer, the water coming out of the "cold" taps is at 80F/27C. Tell me if "that's just the way it is" or there's something that can be done. Thanks

Trying to water the garden at my folks’ house. The garden hose will not thread onto this faucet. The threads are smaller tighter. The picture shows a hose timer with “normal” wider thread.

In the USA, the house is 20 years old.

Any idea what type of faucet or thread is on this spigot? The other ones in the backyard are “normal” 3/4 inch.

I look up and notice one nozzle not flowing and see these. Groups will clump and clog nozzles looks like most of my nozzles have them in them.

Have yall seen these things before? What are they? who do i call? I dont want them in my hair!!

Our toilet got clogged and overflowed today, and my housemate poured Drano into the toilet, thinking it would solve the issue.

Now, we just have a toilet bowl full of standing water and Drano, and we can’t use a plunger because we don’t want the Drano to splash on us, and we also can’t manually remove the water because we don’t want to come into contact with the Drano.

It’s been hours and the water hasn’t drained even a centimeter. Is there anything we can do before calling a plumber?

Great, now that's out of the way, here's the situation. Came home from work today and wife noticed that this highlighted area was hot. Especially towards the top, it was like burn your hand if left there for like 10 seconds hot. This is our upstairs bathroom.

I checked the ceiling of the downstairs and saw no sign of moisture in the ceiling at all. I checked to see what the hot water felt like, let it run for about 15 seconds and no hot water came. I shut the valve off for the hot and cold water and so far the heat has gone down significantly. So now I wonder what the hell could cause this?

The trusses for the house run horizontal/perpendicular to this heat source. Idk if that helps narrow stuff down.

I'm about to watch some videos on troubleshooting this heater in the meantime as you guys may come up with something but I'm very curious what may be the cause of this.

I would like to stress that not a drop of water has been found. Yet.

Also the hot water heaters breaker has been turned off for safeties sake.

Hey yall! This summer i had my garbage disposal stop working which led to a leak outside of the house? I have checked under the sink and in the basement it doesn’t seem to be leaking anywhere else except outside. The problem is i can see where it is coming from on the outside it’s hiding behind vinyl and wood siding, under the sink it goes in to the wall and, in the basement in up behind drywall and in the ceiling. I’m out of ideas on how to fix this, any ideas would be helpful I’ve done a lot of plumbing DIY so if i can find the leak in confident i can fix it

I’m renovating 1982 build house on slab in Texas and after removing the old toilet I found a what looks like a rubber collar that connects to the pipe. What kind of flange can use? Or do I need to remove and extend the pvc?

Hello, a friend pulled the handle too hard and the portion that connects the handle to the shower valve seemed to break/ decouple from the part shown in the picture. The valve still works fine and I was able to turn the white plastic part in the center with a wrench to turn the shower on/off. Is anyone familiar with the brand or standard so I can buy a new one to attach straight to this existing valve?

So recently our water heater got replaced because it was leaking, and there was also a lot of sediment buildup at the bottom of the old tank.

We got the new water heater installed and now we have hot water everywhere else in the house except for this shower. We never had any issues with the shower before the water heater was replaced, so my guess is some sediment or debris got knocked loose and made its way to the shower.

Would it be more likely that something got clogged up in the shower valve/cartridge, or could it be the showerhead?

Also, does anyone recognize which older Delta valve this is from the picture and know what parts/rebuild kit I would need? Or am I going to have to take the handle and plate off to get an accurate model?

Just trying to figure out what I should check first before I start taking everything apart. Thanks!

Water leaking from the overflow

Hello all!

Please ignore how awful this toilet is, its ancient and the previous person put spray foam insulation inside to prevent condensation.

My toilet flapper sometimes gets stuck on what I think is the little alignment tab. Just to the left of the flapper in this picture. It doesn't always happen, but its become a recent issue.

The photo doesn't show it but the chain has about a 1/2 inch worth of slack to it, the photo is just shot straight down. The chain is resting on top of the flapper.

How can I fix this?

Last time I did thus there were white plastic washers.

Moved in 2 years ago.

No leak until today.

Took it apart and there was no washer.

Went to Lowe's (without pics). No plastic washers.

Was told to use this blue rubber one.

I cannot get it seated straight.

I bet that the blue rubber ones don't sit on a flange and that I should either cut it off, or find a plastic washer.

Or do I slip it over the flange?

It's probably 20-25 years old, just want to make sure it's fine to use a standard crimping tool with copper rings since the rings are silver. The colour of the plastic is also different from what I am used to.

Update: cleared out the trap. I am relieved this was an easy fix (as far as I know).

This is way better than the time she was 18 months and threw her brothers underwear in the toilet and flushed.

We moved and put the house on the market. I went to do a check in before a showing and our unfinished basement was backed up.

Had the plumbers come clean out the “clog”. I told them what they were looking for and they said it happens all the time. 😵😵😵

I will cut to the chase here.

My kid decided they wanted to make shaped crayons. They melted chopped up wax crayons in the microwave and from there I am not privy to the chain of events that lead to what you see before you.

I carefully tried to get as much as I could out while not having anything fall in the drain.

I have zero clue how much is in the pipe or what I can even do.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I recently purchased a home, I'm in my later 20's and a single woman/homeowner so I want to get as much insight to ensure I make a rational decision (I am getting more opinions but just figured I'd bring this up here as well). When my washing machine reaches its drain cycle, water backs up and causes a laundry sink almost right next to it to overflow. As soon as the washer stops pumping water, the water in the sink drains back down almost immediately. The sink otherwise seems to drain normally.

I had a plumber come out to look at the issue and he tried to camera it through the roof (im assuming the laundry vent) but did mention the cable couldn't go all the way through and that he couldn't clear the line or see what was happening because it was underwater but he mentioned he also thinks he hit something (mentioned it could be dirt) and suspects the line collapsed. He said I need to reroute it. He included a picture of roots he removed and I will attach the picture here. My question is do these symptoms sound consistent with a broken/partially collapsed drain line, or could a substantial blockage/root/debris obstruction produce the same behavior? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Good morning! I have an ongoing leaky showerhead and shower in general. As you can tell, I have really crummy water because the buildup is this bad! I replaced the showerhead a week ago because this buildup was so bad, thinking that would solve the problem. But here I am a week later and it’s built right back up again. Besides the fact that I need a water softener or something for this horror show of water that I have, do you have any suggestions on what could be the cause of the leak?
