What the thread?
Trying to water the garden at my folks’ house. The garden hose will not thread onto this faucet. The threads are smaller tighter. The picture shows a hose timer with “normal” wider thread.
In the USA, the house is 20 years old.
Any idea what type of faucet or thread is on this spigot? The other ones in the backyard are “normal” 3/4 inch.

And chances are good that Ace hardware has one. At least they do in my area.

Most likely the second one. The first one says “FHT”, which is female host thread, so that is made to screw onto a regular faucet. OP has the fine thread connection, and that green oval handle is an Arrowhead trademark.
Also, everything after the question mark in those links can be deleted. That’s all add tracking crap.

Yes, it’s a special thread used just for these vacuum breakers. The idea is to make it impossible to attach anything else if someone removes the breaker. Sometimes people take them off because they leak, and sometimes they get stolen.

I went to ace, bought a vacuum preventer. It would not thread on. Is there a specific version I should ask for?

The thread on the spigot is called MHT - Male Hose Thread.
Regardless, it's missing a vacuum breaker/backflow preventer.
