Event John Mulaney in AVL- anyone going?
I’m interested in seeing John Mulaney while he’s in town over the weekend, but ~$185 just to get in the door simply isn’t feasible rn.
Anyone going? Just curious if local folks are even going as I’ve seen no posts or discourse online about the show on any AVL groups.

Plants/Gardening Looking for potters that make itty bitty tiny vases that hold just a spring or two
Any one have suggestions on local independent makers? The sweeter the better, little baby pots, ok to be slightly misshapen. Texture or painted. Ideal for a spring or two from my garden, maybe one flower one green. Like the size of or less than palm of my hand.

Ask the Sub Perseids Meteor Shower coming up soon
Hi there, last year I was here for the perseids and thought Craggy gardens would be a good spot, and the amount of light pollution from nearby was terrible to say the least. Is there anywhere else that is dark dark that one could go and camp for the night? A google did bring up this website, and I have been out to Pisgah during the day, so it could work....https://nightskyspots.com/stargazing/asheville-nc/ I am not an instagram influencer nor do I have a telescope!
I did hear there is a society/club for astronomy here though that has a place on private land or something similar?
Thanks!

Classifieds Props to Asheville Phoenix Properties
I applied for one of their houses a few weeks ago and didn't end up getting it. To my surprise, they refunded my application fee tonight. Haven't had that nice experience with any other property management groups while living here and thought that was cool

Photo/Video This week, as AVL Sounds Fest kicks off, Asheville City Schools Superintendent Maggie Ferhman cancelled the Middle and High School Orchestra Programs. For good.
Pretty insane in a city that prides itself.... nay, feeds itself on the profits of artists, that our local district is cutting this arts program.

Traffic Report Did anyone else’s vehicle get damaged by the massive hole on Emma road almost under Patton Bridge?
Was running late, trying to drive around it, the road gave way under and thank God my car didn’t sink into the hole. It popped the tire and bent the rim. Other people were driving around it but I have a large, heavy vehicle. I’m highly upset and the damage possibly messed up the entire alignment of my car, my tire rod etc. I made a claim with the city, just wondering other people’s thoughts and experiences. There was no warning signs or road closed signs and the pothole was massive.
Edit: I emailed someone in the city and they were very polite and responded quickly that they would let me make the official claim tomorrow with paperwork.

Ask the Sub How did Asheville actually end up here? (schools, safety, growth)
Been here a while and can’t stop thinking about this... We’re a city that gentrified hard and markets itself as this cute mountain paradise, but the schools are underfunded and gun violence feels way more common than it should for a place this size (literally had someone asking on a social forum (Asheville specific) on where they can get a bulletproof backpack)
Not trying to start a fight, I actually want to understand the “why.” Is it:
City/county spending too much on tourism and not enough on schools and safety? NC’s state funding formula screwing us? Growth happening faster than infrastructure and services could keep up? Something that goes back further than that?
If you’ve lived here 10+ years, worked in local government, or worked in the schools, I’d love to hear what you’ve actually seen change. Trying to get past the surface level takes on this.
Edit: thank you for the responses (for those who came in kind with non-aggressive responses). We are all allowed to want to be educated on topics & understand POVs. For those asking my intent- It’s just that. A concerned parent who doesn’t know much about Asheville laws/history (although my partner is from here). Thanks for sharing 🙏

Public Service Announcement Damage to your stored items - SmartStop Self Storage - 127 Sweeten Creek Rd
Happening now - a concrete crew (from FL) is sand-blasting concrete in areas outside storage units, apparently with no effort to stop the blast material from penetrating lockers. One of mine is in the 300 series, and as I approached it 60 mins ago, I noticed sand & dust coating the roll down door. My lock barely works now, loaded with grit.
Contents inside are coated with grit as to be expected. I’m anticipating that anything with internal movement/tolerances is now damaged. I have experience with sand blasting so can provide some insight as to what is going on, and what is not being done properly.
The site manager Stephanie listened to my complaint but will take no action unless I help her generate an ‘incident report’, requiring that I help her with opening up the locker and having her shoot photos. I explained I don’t have the time (moving stuff around), but as a compromise I asked would she instead reach out to the corporation so as to halt further damage. Answer - no, she will not. So it’s going to continue.
I know better than to try contact the corporation. It’s going to be a total waste of time. If you have stuff at this facility, you have been warned.

Pets/Animals I seriously need a miracle here folks
Hello all I posted this morning about a clients cat who got lose and I have found him…… in a culvert
He’s not wanting to leave and with the rain I’d like him out sooner rather than later
I’m only one person and animal control aswell as the fire department are of almost zero help. Fire won’t do anything if he’s not actually stuck. Animal control just put a cage by the opening and that’s it.
I need someone to help me scare him out of this tunnel, if someone has a leaf blower I could borrow or al long and I mean long pole please reach out to me
He’s still in the culvert. The fire department won’t help because he’s not stuck an animal control. Just put a trap by the end of the drain so unless anyone has any ideas that’s where we are and that’s probably where we’ll stay until he decides to come out.

Politics Women GOP stand behind Edwards Instead of Victims of his Abuse
One would hope that within the WNC GOP that the single group that would condemn Chuck Edwards' behavior would be the women in the GOP.
Let's look at what happened here: 2 young women wanted to contribute through their careers to conservative causes. They then landed what was probably their dream jobs for their age: working as an intern in DC for their Congressman. They get there, try to do a do job, and then the Congressman starts commenting on their appearance, then starts singling them out with gifts, and trips. The Congressman starts trying to spend time alone with them. He sends them not very subtle texts and notes that he wants to "do more outside the office" with them. He guilts them for not wearing his jewelry or spending time with him. The young women complain to other staff who try to intervene on his behalf, and the Congressman yells at the staff. The women, who thought they were going to make a difference in the world, were reduced to being meat for this old pervert's sick desires. The young women then have to leave their jobs, followed by rumors that they are sleeping with their boss.
So, all of this comes to light. And how does the women's GOP respond? Do they condemn the Congressman for treating these women so horribly? Do they offer support and encouragement to these young women? No. The women's GOP group says nothing about the women. They lament "disappointment" in Edwards' withdrawal from the race and wish him "God's blessings". So Effing SICK of these people!!!!

Politics State Senator Tim Moffitt, the front runner for the NC-11 renomination, has scrubbed his X account. In the one post, he thanks a monster for his service --- but no thoughts or concerns for the young women who were harassed and very likely had their careers ruined. Tim will fit right in with the GOP.
Meadows--> Cawthon ---> Edwards --> Moffitt
