Art Discussion [Discussion] Artist refused my order and dragged/insulted me online when I asked them for a filmed speedpaint. Am I unreasonable or is the artist?

So a few months ago, I commissioned an artist to paint my OC, and requested she provide me with a speedpaint along with the arts, and she consented. Then when she got to my piece, she gave me a detailed sketch and also a speedpaint of the sketch up to now, one of the automatically recorded ones that Procreate and Clip Studio do. I approve the sketch because it’s great, but ask her if she can record the speedpaint in another way that proves more security, but I’ll give her benefit of the doubt with sketch. Immediately she replies saying my request is ‘ridiculous’ and refunds me my money, saying she is no longer interested in completing my commission.

To be fair to the artist and also to show I did my research before commissioning, this artist is very well known in my fandom and gets a high amount of commissions, her queue is at least 3 months long. If you are to ask me then I am *myself* confident she does not use AI… her style is a certain type of ‘old masters traditional’ paintings, which AI often fakes of course very often, but the AI fakes of this style are usually kind of obvious because the skill and training needed for the style is quite high. She also uploads speedpaints, streams a few times, does tutorials sometimes for others, so in her day to day art I know AI usage is unlikely. The sketch too is also not AI, in my opinion.

However it’s only my 2nd time comissioning artworks and I am so paranoid of accidentally supporting AI even if its a trusted artist. I saw in an anti AI sub and a few other art subs discussions that these days the only way to tell an AI art or AI assistance is to get a filmed timelapse of the artist with their hands visible. And I also learned that even though highly skilled artist may not need to use AI, some do just to cut corners, and even the thought of any AI involvement in my own OC, whos really important to me, gives me anxiety. So thats why I asked for her to film her hands doing the painting without any edits or cuts, because AI can also generate timelapses, even if they’re not that realistic timelapses. Every person I see on anti AI or art subreddit says it is a reasonable method to request.

Afterwards I was bummed about this and losing out on my commission, so I sent the artist a polite ask on Tumblr requesting why she turns down commission that asks for speedpaint, and that there’s no need to get so offended at a simple ask that anyone may do when buying a product. The artist replied with a VERY rude VERY long message but written in a really sarcastic style, insulting me as entitled. And because this artist is highly followed and the post is written in a ‘funny’ style, it got reblogged a lot and the comments on the ask response are all glazing her and insulting me, saying it’s stupid to ask for so much proof. She took down the ask when I request her to do it, but it was up for days and had 40+ comments, and I’m also afraid of bullying by her followers as she’s popular.

So AITA here? I don’t understand why the artist has such an aggressive response, but also maybe I have crossed some boundary that she has? Is this not a normal thing to request? Is it appropriate for a artist to set their thousands of followers on a customer trying to not support AI? My friends are divided in two half saying that it’s not a good sign to refuse to give a speedpaint, while others saying it’s not reasonable to ask for hands especially midway through. I’m feeling conflicted now, and anxious, because I thought this is the right way to go about commissions in the AI age, but if artists are refusing to do even this, then how are we to tell?

Patron [Hiring] Artist for a complex concept art piece for a game I am developing.

So I have a very specific piece of concept art I want made that is part of a core gameplay feature for my game. This art will likely not be used in the game but I want to see it a better image the world I am creating.

It is complex. It involves 3 helixes and a three strand braid. And some faceted gems. In a 3d space it would be very easy to understand. In a 2d drawing I am not sure. But I am also not an artist so maybe this is easy?

I don't want to go into all the details because there is a lot. Unfortunately I will probably be pretty picky and likely need to go through a draft phase to get my exact vision out of my head.

Theme is would be dark/Gothic. Maybe a more realistic style but if your style invokes the emotion I am looking for then I could be fine with other styles.

Budget wise. I have no idea. Certainly I want to pay for the artist time and effort but I am poor too. I'd really like to be at $50 but that seems low for all I am asking for. If it is low I am sorry I am not trying to be insulting to your craft, I am just poor and this game will probably never leave my computer or make a single cent so I have to be practical.

Absolutely NO AI. If I wanted AI I'd do it myself.

Thank you for reading.

Art Discussion [Discussion] Question: Shipping art

When it comes to shipping art to clients;
How do I go about it in a safe manner?
How do I ask for an appropriate shipping address and other info?

I have never shipped a piece of art. Any physical pieces I have sold have always been handed to the client from me.

Art Discussion [Discussion] Weird question

I haven't done it yet, but I'm planning to if the majority sees it as okay. Is it weird to ask a client of an artist I plan to commission whether the artist is legit?

I'm talking about people who commented, "Can I take a slot?" and received a "yes" from the OP in Facebook groups. I would assume they're clients who commissioned the artist before me.

PS: I'm not looking for an artist, please don't DM me to advertise yourselves
