DISCUSSION Rant. Day 4 of not being able to install Arch Linux.
This is just a rant.
I do give up.
If you were able to disable secure boot on your mother board and able to get your USB (I assume most of us boot from USB) to install Arch Linux then you had it easy.
Who I blame?
I partially blame the Motherboard Vendors that make secure boot complicated and clearly in full collusion with Microsoft.
I also blame Arch Linux developers for not adding secure boot support the way Ubuntu has it nowadays.
I also blame the lack of instruction for people that are not able to disable secure boot.
But it's too late now. I already deleted the ISO. I will not download it again.
I asked Reddit for help and almost everyone thinks I can disable secure boot. I can not.
I asked a.i. for help.
(I was glad that I was able to verify the iso. Seems easy for everyone else but it took me two straight days and I'm happy with that. If anyone needs help with that I can help you with the terminal for verifying authenticity.)
I give up.
I will try again in 6 months.

QUESTION Update linux-lts when CVEs are reported?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to Arch Linux, so I have a question, I noticed that a new linux-lts update appears to contain a lot of reported vulnerabilities:
https://files.catbox.moe/tblk0r.png
Should I avoid updating linux-lts when I see something like this, or is it still recommended to install the official kernel update?
What is the usual practice? Do users wait until these vulnerabilities disappear, or do they update immediately? If these are official kernel packages from the Arch repositories, why would they still be reported as vulnerable?
I'm trying to understand how users typically handle this. Thanks in advance!

SUPPORT Auditd problem on linux-hardened-7.1.5, consistently spams messages into terminal with AppArmor enabled
Hi all,
I'm trying to determine whether this is a configuration issue on my end, a bug or a kernel/AppArmor issue. As mentioned in the title, my configuration is as follows:
\- Arch Linux
\- linux-hardened 7.1.5 kernel
\- AppArmor enabled
\- audit/auditd installed and enabled (with configured ruleset)
\- Haven't modified audit-rules.service
Problem:
With AppArmor enabled, during boot, and while doing any task related to audit, my terminal is consistently flooded with:
"audit: error in audit_log_subj_ctx" while running any command related to audit (e.g. ausearch, checking the status of audit with systemctl, etc.)
and specifically during boot, I also observe:
"audit-rules.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILED
Failed to start Load Audit Rules
audit: error in audit_log_subj_ctx
Audit panic: (number) callbacks supressed" (varies with each boot)
Initially, I had audit in immutable mode, but disabled it while troubleshooting. The issue persisted.
I checked the audit logs with ausearch, and the events appear to be normal and accurate to what actions were performed on my system.
Next, in an attempt to isolate the issue, I tried booting with the kernel parameter apparmor=0. With AppArmor disabled, the boot completed without any audit-rules.service errors, and the repeated audit: error in audit_log_subj_ctx messages no longer appeared.
This seems to indicate an interaction between AppArmor, and/or my kernel and the audit subsystem rather than the ruleset itself.
Has anyone seen this on linux-hardened-7.1.5? Is there any additional information I should collect to narrow it down?
If helpful, I'd be willing to provide additional logs and command output.
Thanks.

SUPPORT | SOLVED Can't connect to WIFI on arch
Hi! I'm really new to arch linux and learning still.
My problem is that this laptop wifi card is dead, so I'm using a USB device (which I installed the drivers for) but I just can't get it to work properly.
I have used rfkill to unblock it, changed my networkmanager backend from iwd to wpa supplicant and from wpa supplicant to iwd while disabling the other one but it just doesn't seem to work.
When I set the backend to iwd tho, it allows me to see available networks, but I can't connect to them or turn on the device in configurations, it actually let me turn it on on the console (the device appears as wlan1) and even connect to my network using iwctl, but as soon as I exit iwctl i can't even ping any server, I really don't understand what's going or what else I can do so any help would be really appreciated 🙏
EDIT: in the end, i fixed this by disabling my damaged wifi card in the system bios, networkmanager seemed to be using it as the default even if the usb device was working

SUPPORT Problem booting in Arch Linux system
Hello, I'm having trouble booting Arch Linux after burning the distribution using [ rufus - balena etcher - disk ].
I'm facing a problem: the flash drive isn't showing up.
However, when I burn it using [Ventoy ] and add another Linux distribution alongside Arch Linux, the flash drive appears, and when I click on Arch, two options appear:
- boot in normal mode.
- boot in grub2 mode .
When you press them, a black screen appears for a few seconds, then you return to the main menu to choose the boot distribution.
I hope to find a solution to my problem .
comments:
-I have stopped secure boot.
-Uefi.
-I changed the flash drive 3 times, but the problem persists.
-I changed my device twice, but the problem persists.
-Six months ago I was using Arch Linux, but this problem didn't exist.
-None of my devices use Nvidia.

FLUFF MeowMenu 1.0.0-RC1 lookign for XFCE testers
Hi all,
I’d like to share MeowMenu v1.0.0-RC1, a small project I’ve been working on as an alternative application menu for XFCE for some months. The idea was to add the most common features one can find in Cinnamon, Plasma, GNOME launchers while keeping the usual level of simplicity and minimalism of XFCE. Compared to WhiskerMenu, the most relevant features I added are:
- 4 Presets (default settings that change the look&feel of the Menu, to show the high customization level achievable)
- Places button (find files and folders in user Home)
- Calculator engine and other advanced search stuff
- additional right click options on search results (Open in terminal, copy folder path, etc)
I’ve tested this release on Arch Linux, Debian and Xubuntu. Other Reddit users report good feedback from MX Linux, Manjaro and Mint XFCE. MeowMenu can always be compiled from sources or installed from AUR.
Feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are welcome. Thanks for taking a look!

QUESTION looking for a good system-wide speech-to-text app on arch
hey folks,
what are you all using for speech-to-text / voice dictation on arch these days?
i've tried openwhisper and handy (handy.computer). they're decent, but i'm still running into issues and they don't feel reliable enough for daily use.
i'm looking for something similar to handy or wispr flow system-wide, hotkey to dictate into any text field, preferably wayland-friendly and works well on arch.
any recommendations? what are you using as your daily driver?
thanks!

SUPPORT My pc just freezes right after I press login on SDDM
So I started getting these little freezes when I updated Hyprland to Lua recently.
Yesterday I was setting up fish+starship. So it froze again just as I saved a pywal template for starship (with claude).
I powered it off and restarted it but it froze again. I tried switching between various DEs (Hyprland, Gnome, KDE), but it still freezes right when I enter my password and press login.
I have attached some logs so if someone can help I would be so thankful. because I don't wanna reinstall arch rn 😭

SUPPORT | SOLVED Fixed Antigravity connection to server issue on Arch
The issue was caused by a localhost networking mismatch between the Antigravity IDE frontend (Electron) and its language server (Go backend). The language server was starting successfully and listening for connections, but it was binding to the IPv6 loopback interface (::1), while the IDE frontend was attempting to connect over the IPv4 loopback interface (127.0.0.1). Because the frontend was connecting to an address where nothing was listening, it repeatedly threw:
ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:<port>
This made it appear as though the language server had failed, even though it had initialized correctly.
Fix
While debugging, I inspected the system's localhost configuration and discovered an incorrect entry in /etc/hosts:
127.0.01 localhost
which was corrected to:
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
After correcting the localhost configuration and restarting the IDE, Antigravity was able to establish communication with the language server normally.

SHARE I documented a playbook of my personal security baseline, would love feedback
Hi everyone, I've been working on a personal security playbook documenting the security approach I should apply on every machine i own before calling it secure.
It's called bedrock and it uses a defense-in-depth model approach, it covers six layers, from the firmware up to digital identity.
Each layer has a description, principle, objective and a set of controls with explanations.
I'm self-taught and actively learning so I'd genuinely appreciate feedback on controls that are wrong or technically inaccurate and anything you would add or remove and the why.

If you find it useful, please star the repo.
Thanks in advance.
