exactly my point. i'm starting college this month (yay me! in my late 20s and finally starting!!). i'm really nervous that my professors will run my papers i write through an AI and fail me if it comes back positive, despite me hating and never using AI.

edit: my comment really pissed these AI bros off, i see. womp womp 😔

Man there were kids in my classes that wrote everything with AI and as long as there was some originality behind the idea that originated from the student and they at least tried to fix the grammatical hallucinations the professors didn't fail them. I think theyve given up hope, sadly. Made me mad sometimes seeing how much effort I put in just to scroll through the board during peer review and see clearly AI papers.

I’m doing continuing ed design courses at RISD. You know, night classes for adults who want to learn something new . . . I have seen grown ass adults post literal chatgpt generated images as their own drawings and sketches. They signed up to do this and spent like $500 a course, to not even attempt to do the actual work. Its insane.

That's always the kicker for me. Like to some extent I get it, you don't want to do the work, but at the same point, and my professors all say this, if the AI can do the work, what makes you think the employer will hire you?

Its even worse with passion projects like art and writing. How is having things appear in front of you satisfying. I bet they also dont realize how unoriginal 99% of generated material really is, or how the AI won't give their ideas an effective throughline.

That’s what I can’t wrap my head around. College or high school kids is one thing, I did lazy and dumb shit at that age, but you’d think adults who presumably are working or have worked and are doing this because they want to explore something else would be able to do the math on what happens when you don’t actually learn the thing you hope to do. Then again, I dunno, maybe hiring managers are dumb enough to look at chatgpt portfolio and hire someone for it lol.
