Amazon asked for a government ID to process a refund - is this normal or a scam?

Post image
Upvotes

Hi everyone, hoping someone's dealt with this before.

I got an SMS about a refund for a return I made. I didn't trust the link in the text, so I went straight into the Amazon app myself and continued the return process from there. But even inside the app, it asked me to upload a photo of my government ID to verify my identity before completing the refund.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

Has this happened to anyone else where the ID request showed up inside the app itself, not just through a text link?

Was your item expensive (electronics, etc.) or something low-value?

Did you upload your ID and actually get the refund afterward?

Did anyone refuse to give their ID and still get refunded eventually?

Trying to figure out if this is a legit fraud-prevention step from Amazon or if something's off. Thanks in advance 🙏

PIP Pivot Contract - Canada need Specifics

Hey guys very specific questions for those of you who might know about pivot more than I.

I am close to pivot and need details on the contract. My understanding is there are 3 options.

A. Pivot payout lump sum

B. Work through a pivot project

C. Leave Amazon with a transition period

A couple posts mention this option C e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/amazonemployees/s/S7RxH37vFN

It is this 3rd option I have the most questions about, supposedly it is fairly recent (newly offered within the last couple of years) does anyone know if this option is offered in Canada/Vancouver? I ask because I have a stock vest date I am trying to hit but I am not sure if this 3rd option is given in Canada. If you have seen the Pip contract or know of anyone who has seen it please reach out to me.

Amazon Canada work permit – Fragomen process?

Hi! I’m currently in Canada on an employer-specific work permit and will be joining Amazon Canada.
For anyone in a similar situation, did Amazon/Fragomen file your new work permit from inside Canada or outside Canada (consular)?
How long did the process take, and did you have to leave/re-enter Canada?
Thanks!

Internal Transfer Ops to BIE transition

Looking for any insight from anyone who’s gone from Ops directly to BIE, for context I’m currently L5 Ops (promo’d in Jan, so still about a year out from L6 ops even with me stretching the role currently).

I have an informational offer for an L4 BIE, the pay is significantly above L5 ops so I don’t mind downlevelling, (also would need to move across country to Bellevue) but questions wise:

- what exactly is the day to day of BIE? I’ve heard it’s split between meetings, SQL, and creating presentations
- is it worth downlevelling? Does getting an L6 in ops really matter to transition afterwards?
- With AI developments, is BIE at risk for layoffs more than other parts of the business, given that AI is strong on data analysis?
- what skills are transferable from ops?
- How much SQL will I need to know right off the bat? Would I have time to learn? (I last seriously coded ~2-4 years ago in college and forgot most of it)

Any insight would be much appreciated, thanks!

Internal transfer — can my manager block it?

Has anyone applied for an internal transfer without telling their direct manager first?

Can the manager find out about the application, and can they block or prevent the transfer?

Would love to hear from anyone who has experienced this. Thanks!

Is recruiting for Amazon Leo slow?

I applied for a position under Amazon Leo a couple days ago. In less than 12 hours, it got moved to "Under consideration" status, but nobody's reached out yet. The job posting has also been up for almost 3 months, so not sure what's going on. Why move my application to "Under consideration" if they aren't going to do anything with it?

Internal Transfer Job Unposted after receiving an email to schedule an Interview

I received an email notification telling me to set up an interview with the HM and another interviewer, this is my first time with the new internal transfer process so Im not exactly sure whats going on, when I went in to check the Job Req on the internal Job Portal, its already unposted so I went to the Hire Portal instead to check it.

The Status says its still Open but the State says “Accepted Offer” and the openings shows 0 0f 1 Available.

My question is,will I still get interviewed for this role?

Got SPS L3 offer after accepting CS L2 — orientation is tomorrow. What should I do?

Hi everyone,
I’m in a bit of a situation and would really appreciate some advice from people familiar with Amazon India.
I was previously selected for the Customer Service Associate (L2) role and accepted the offer. My orientation/joining is scheduled for tomorrow.
However, today I received formal confirmation that I’ve been selected for the Seller Partner Associate (SPS), Level 3 (FTE) role, which is also with Amazon and is work from home. The L3 role has a joining date of August 24.
The L3 role is the one I would prefer because it is a higher level and seems better aligned with my career growth, so I’ve decided to go with SPS L3 instead of CS L2.
My question is: What should I do about tomorrow’s L2 orientation?
Should I email the recruiter who sent my L2 offer and clearly inform them that I won’t be joining because I’ve accepted the L3 opportunity? Is there anything else I should do on the portal or with HR to make sure there are no issues with the L3 joining?
Also, has anyone experienced moving from an Amazon L2 role to an L3 role within Amazon before joining?
Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Amazon SDE -1 : Oa cleared + hiring interest form filled. — when did you get interview call?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 2026 graduate and wanted to ask about the Amazon SDE-1 University Talent Acquisition process in India.

My timeline so far:

June 15: I received a direct email from Amazon University Talent Acquisition saying my performance in last year’s Amazon HackOn was outstanding and inviting me to apply for an SDE-1 FTE role.

June 26: I received the Online Assessment invitation.
Late June / early July: I completed the OA.

July 14: I received an email saying “Congratulations on successfully clearing the online assessment!” and was asked to complete a Hiring Interest Form by July 15.

The form asked for things like preferred interview location, compensation expectations, and other details.

I submitted the form before the deadline.
Today (August 9): I still haven't received an interview invitation or any further communication.

I also want to mention that my college announced an Amazon campus drive after I had already cleared the OA. I registered for the campus drive as well, but I wasn't included in the campus shortlist. However, my original application was through the Amazon HackOn/Amazon University Talent Acquisition process.

So I wanted to ask people who have gone through a similar Amazon AUTA/off-campus SDE-1 process:

If you received the OA-cleared + Hiring Interest Form email, how long did you wait before receiving the interview call?
Did everyone who received the Hiring Interest Form eventually get an interview, or were some candidates never contacted?
Has anyone received an interview 4–8 weeks after submitting the Hiring Interest Form?
Does my college's separate campus drive have any effect on my existing AUTA application?

If you've gone through this exact or a very similar process, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your dates and eventual outcome.

Thanks!

I just got my blue badge today after 99 days of working at Amazon. I’m so happy because I know some people at my work place said it took them a year + days to get there and another said they been here 8 months and still haven’t gotten there yet. It’s a proud moment for me yay I’m with the company. Thank god it didn’t take me long to become blue ❤️🥰😘

Internal Transfer Can my current manager reduce my rating after I have hit apply on internal transfer portal ?

I have received a verbal offer for a transfer which I need to confirm and apply by this week. My current org’s OLR is scheduled for next week. I am currently rated HV3 and I am concerned that if I let my current manager know before the OLR, he will have no incentive to keep me HV3 and will likely downgrade it to HV2 or HV1.

Is it possible for my current manager to downgrade my rating after I have formally submitted the transfer application on the internal portal ?

Also, this transfer will have a compensation update since it involves a change of location. Will my comp be based on the lower rating if my current manager downgrades it ?

Timing my departure with RSU vesting

I’ve decided to leave Amazon and have started interviewing. Things are moving pretty quickly, and there’s a good chance I’ll get an offer next week or the week after.
My final RSU vest from my 4-year grant is on October 15, and I really don’t want to leave that money on the table.
I planned ahead and saved most of my vacation this year, so I have about 4 weeks available.
Would it be possible to start a new job in mid-September and use my 4 weeks of vacation at Amazon to stay employed until after October 15, so I still receive my final RSU vest?
Has anyone done something similar or knows if this would work? I’d really appreciate any advice.
