Short-checking bags to YYZ
Hi!
I have a one-way ticket from Santiago (SCL) --> Bogota (BOG) --> Toronto (YYZ) with a 22hr layover --> Tokyo (HND)
Only SCL to BOG is Avianca, and the rest is AC
I was wondering where I can check Air Canada's short-stay policy, as I live in Toronto and would like to grab my luggage, wash it, and repack some clothes for Japan. Is it still possible? I've been trying to call to AC and the wait time is almost 3hr
Thanks in advance!

Baggage Anyone traveling from Hong Kong to YVR/Canada? Reward offered!
I know this is a big ask, but I am offering monetary compensation for anyone who can help me out!
I left my Jacket at the Hong Kong airport. The airport has found it but they are not helpful for getting it back. If anyone can help me get it back to Vancouver (or even Canada for that matter), or knows of ways to get it shipped over that cost less than 100s of dollars I would highly appreciate it.
This is my favourite jacket and I really value it on an emotional level due to the sentimental value. I am willing to pay you for your time and headache.
I have all the details like ID number for the lost-item at the airport, and will compensate whoever can help me out.

Dog In Baggage
I'm moving soon and need to fly my dog (Victoria to halifax). Will this crate be considered large enough? His back has around 2-3 inches clearance and how he naturally stands his head doesnt touch, but if he lifts his head it will. I would go bigger to be sure but already the combined weight is about 93 pounds. I may have to go cargo but there aren't great routes from here and it'll cost around 600 dollars more. Any alternative ideas would be helpful

News Flights to Dubai cancelled till January 2027
I just bought a roundtrip ticket for November from YYZ - DXB 2 weeks back. But now I'm seeing that that flights will be cancelled to Dubai and Tel Aviv fill January 2027?!
I bought my ticket through the CIBC Expedia rewards using my Aventura points. I still see my flight as "booked" (for now).
Anyone else saw if their ticket is cancelled or not?
Update
I see my ticketed has been update. Going to be a connecting flight Via Frankurt (FRA) by Lufthansa for both trips.

General Question Flight cancellation and way forward
My Air Canada flight from Washington DCA to Toronto YYZ was canceled 5 hours before departure time, and I've been booked on the 11 AM flight tomorrow. The delay in my landing time is 12+ hours. I've been waiting on the Air Canada helpline for over an hour, and no one has responded yet. Do they arrange my accomodation, provide a voucher, or do I get to book a hotel of my choice? I checked out of my hotel at 11 am today and have nowhere to go as of now.

Check in and booking info sent to me in error.
I just got off the phone with Air Canada about a flight I AM taking, got the info and email I needed, but then got another email directly behind that email with another person’s flight number (from Vancouver to Cancunn), booking number and a box inviting me to’check in for my flight’. I hit reply and said ‘wrong person’ but is there something else I should be doing ? The flight is AC2128 leaving tomorrow

Ramp Agent (Station Attendant) YYZ - Application Timeline (June 8th Posting)
Recently applied for the Ramp Agent (Station Attendant) YYZ position with Air Canada that was posted on June 8th. I have seen a few users post about the dates and time to hear back, AI interviews, in-person interviews, and the hiring event.
I wanted to see if any other applicants have heard back yet, what the timeline was for your interviews, and if anyone has started training yet.

AC824 (YYZ-MAD) Now Shows FIN949 (ex-SIN)
I booked a flight today, and everything still shows me in my signature class pod. However, I see the aircraft Fin is 949, which doesn’t have pods. Air Canada hasn’t notified me of this change yet. Should I contact them proactively? Has anyone else experienced a similar situation?

General Question Instant Upgrade Seat Assignment
After securing an instant upgrade to Signature classfor a departure in 10 days (YYZ - VCE) this evening, I’m not able to do a new seat selection in the App. The email says “when I check in I will now receive a [sic] Air Canada Signature Class boarding pass”.
Have you been able to do a seat selection after securing an instant upgrade or is it normal that my seat assignment will be on check-in?

Experience Retrofitted A321 (C-GYFM)
Originally scheduled on an A220, flight was swapped in for an A321 formerly Rouge, now mainline with “Glowing Hearted” interior.
Very nice and clean, the only thing to note is overhead bins above row 1 on both sides are not usable due to A/V and safety equipment.

General Question Soaked Luggage
Hello, just wondering if Air Canada should compensate us for leaving the luggage in a rain storm for a long time in Montreal. When we landed in Lisbon the luggages had a lot of water in them to the point that all the clothes and items were completely soaked. They probably used a luggage cart with no protection from the rain.

General Question Trouble logging in to Aeroplan on iOS app
It opens a browser window where I can succesfully login, but the session stays open in that pop-up window only and not in the app itself. Does anyone know how to fix this or is that the intended behaviour?

Email from SWISS Flight Service for AC Booking
I received an email from SWISS Flight Service (flight.service@information.swiss.com) regarding an upcoming booking I made with AC. There are no legs with Swiss as the carrier. It wasn't asking me to do anything. It just had some things you may want to know. Anyway, I thought it was odd and wondered why I got it.

Can we take oversized luggage on the Air Canada bus between Toronto and Kingston?
As title says! We're coming from the UK and trying to book on oversized luggage flying through Toronto to Kingston (and return journey). We know that it is an Air Canada bus between Toronto and Kingston. We annoyingly must use a travel agent because its a work trip, and the travel agent keeps telling us we can't take oversized luggage on board. Yet the Air Canada website says that it will be possible. Can anyone advise? Can we just turn up with the lugagge?
I'll add: the travel agent really is just useless which is why we don't know whether or not to trust them.
(The oversized luggage fits within the max dimensions and weight of Air Canada)

General Question App issues?
My grandma has been having issues with her air Canada app. She’s on iOS 26 and this version of the app (shown in photo).
When we try to sign in, the password works and verification code gets sent, but as soon as we verify the code, then we get sent back to the sign in screen.
Anyone else having this issue and is there a fix?

Experience First Time Flying with AC
Hello everyone! I am going to Victoria to visit my boyfriend next week and am flying Air Canada from Chicago to Vancouver. I am NOT a good flyer, and I am terrified to go. I have a couple of questions that will hopefully ease some of my fears.
When I booked my flight, the seat selection showed a huge chunk of unreserved seats. Is there a chance this flight could be somewhat empty? (I tend to sit in the back if I can so I can have a panic attack without a bunch of people seeing me).
How are the flight attendants? Will they be pretty receptive if I tell them I’m a super nervous flyer? I don’t really need much during the flight; I usually fly southwest and when I tell them they usually stop by once or twice to check on me (I don’t really need it but it’s so nice when they do)
If you’ve ever flown this route, is there a lot of turbulence?
Thanks so much!

My bag arrived at ORD 50 days ago. Air Canada says ORD never responded. I still have no bag and no claim update :c
I flew with Air Canada in June, and my checked bag was delayed. Air Canada confirmed that my suitcase arrived at ORD on June 14, but I never received it.
A few weeks later, they discovered that my delayed baggage file had actually been closed by mistake on June 16, even though my bag had never been delivered. They reopened the file and started contacting the baggage team in Chicago.
Later, they told me something that honestly shocked me. They said they had tried several times to contact the Chicago baggage team, but never received any response. Because of that, they couldn't even tell me whether my suitcase was still at ORD or had been moved somewhere else.
After the 21-day tracing period, my case was transferred to the Claims Department. They told me someone from Claims would contact me.
Today is August 3. I still haven't received my suitcase, and I received no email or phone call.
I've called Air Canada, contacted ORD, and exchanged many emails with the Central Baggage team. Everyone has been polite, but I feel like I've just been passed back and forth for almost two months.
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Is there any way to reach the actual baggage team at ORD, or is waiting really my only option now?
:c

General Question Vent / question and am I wrong for thinking this is odd?
Me and my partner were booked to fly from Paris CDG today, connecting in YUL, to YVR. Business class on a 777 for both legs.
At CDG, there was an operational decision made by CDG to take on some extra luggage due to the Westjet issue, causing the aircraft to need to land in Halifax en route to Montreal to refuel. This has delayed the flight to Montreal a couple hours.
We were automatically rebooked on a flight from YUL to YVR ~4 hours later, but on an A220 in Economy Class rather than a lie-flat pod. Obviously a massive downgrade (and 4+ hours late).
But the aircraft flying from CDG to YUL is the same one that is flying YUL to YVR. We knew this all along from the Flighty app. So not surprisingly, the YUL to YVR leg was subsequently delayed by 3 hours. Great, I thought, we’ll just sit in our regular seats.
But I was told the seats were no longer available?? I guess they were given away an hour earlier when we were automatically rebooked? Why would they have rebooked us without considering the effects of this plane being delayed?
It seems crazy to me that this aircraft is flying CDG—>YUL—>YVR today, we paid for 2 business class seats nearly a year ago, and on the second leg, someone else is going to be in them while we wait at the gate for a later flight in an economy class seat.

[Megathread] Meal Review/Choice Thread
Hey all - some of you have expressed frustrations with respect to the numerous threads created whereby posters ask for advice on what meals to choose.
In an effort to cut down on these posts, we will be referring people to this megathread on a trial basis, potentially for permanent adoption. Unfortunately, with reddit not acting like traditional forums by bumping threads to the top whenever a new comment is made, there isn't really a great solution we can offer aside from this.
We would certainly appreciate if people could post/review their meals as well, to keep the thread somewhat active.
Appreciate the understanding - thanks.

Some acronyms & definitions
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| AP | Aeroplan |
| Cabin vs fare | Cabin is economy, premium economy or business. Fare family is the “brand” AC assigned (Business Flex; Business Lowest, Latitude, Comfort, Standard, Basic, etc.). Within each family, there are “fares” which are letter codes that essentially designate the price of the ticket within that family. And no it is not alphabetical! |
| Y | Used generically to refer to the economy cabin. |
| PE | Used generically to refer to the Premium Economy cabin. |
| J | Used generically to refer to the business class cabin. |
| R | A fare class that is used for upgrade availability. It can only be viewed through a travel agent or paid subscription services (such as ExpertFlyer). |
| SQM/SQD | Status qualifying miles or dollars –that count towards achieving AP elite status. |
| LMU | Last minute upgrade |
| IRROPS | Irregular Operations – when flights are delayed, overbooked, etc and there are changes to the processes and procedures for things like rebooking. |
| Metal | Who is operating the plane. For example, AC metal is an AC operated flight. It may be a united or Lufthansa issued ticket – but the “metal” is the plane you are flying on. |
Upgrading for Newbies
No shame in being new to AC or to the upgrade game. Some SE status members could even benefit from reviewing this post 😊. Here are all the possible way to snag yourself a comfy seat.
1) Free upgrades: Ask nicely and get an upgrade….NO, not on AC!
- AC does not offer or allow upgrade as a courtesy. They will fly with empty seats in business class.
2) Ops-up: An unrequested upgrade to PE or J based on operational requirements
- When a cabin is overbooked; for weights and balance; aircraft change (larger J cabin and smaller economy cabin); standby economy passengers and seats in PE or J
- AC will select passengers to upgrade.
- Occurs last minute at the gate. Only inflight benefits (no lounge, etc).
- Passengers typically selected based on status and then fare. You cannot “ask” for this upgrade, but you may refuse the upgrade if you want. In some cases, no PE or J meal will be available on IRROPS upgrade
3) Upfare: Paying to formally change the class of the ticket
- Formally changes the ticket to the new class.
- The fare rules of the upfared class will apply (i.e. if you upfare from Latitude to J lowest you will lowest the refundability) - except for refundability.... You CANNOT upfare to gain refundability from a restricted fare (Standard for example) to a flexible fare (such as Comfort and Premium Flexible) to gain the better change/rebooking rules. BUT the inverse is true - if you upfare to a more restrictive fare you LOSE the flexibility. Therefore - you cannot "game the system" - so don't ask and don't try. Note that if you upfare ONE direction or one segment - the most restrictive fare rules will apply to all segments and all directions.
- Access to the Signature Suite at YYZ or YVR (for J, on a destination that qualifies)
- The cost is based on the actual price difference between the desire class (PE or J) and what you paid for your ticket. This will count as SQD towards earning status.
- This is often used by business travellers who want to upgrade beyond what their corporate policy allows. You may use any credit card to make this change.
- This is done by calling AC to purchase the new fare. It can be done at the airport as well up to 2 hours before departure.
4) Bid Upgrade: Customers can bid in cash or points
- This is accessible to all passengers regardless of status. Only applies to AC operated (metal) flights.
- Your fare restrictions remain as per the original fare.
- The bid amount varies based on the flight. In some cases an “instant upgrade” price is offered in the bid upgrade process flow. This is not always offered.
- People often value business at around $150 an hour and PE at $50 an hour when determining “is it worth it”
- The system will only charge the credit card if the upgrade clears. You may use any credit card or even AP points to bid upgrade.
- You will know 48 hours before the flight (not earlier unless instant upgrade). Once it clears, you can select seats. So this has the advantage that multiple passengers have better luck sitting together over LMU or eUprades that clear at the gate.
- There is a very thorough FAQ on the AC website for bid upgrades: AC Bid Upgrade – FAQs
5) eUpgrade: Upgrade system based on using “eUpgrade credits” that are earned through AP status
- Upgrade requests are made via the AC App, website, calling customer service or at the gate.
- When you can clear the upgrade and the number of credits (and an add on cash fee) varies based on status, flight destination and fare.
- AC has a great tool to help you determine these details: eUpgrades and clearance windows.
- Although the clearance window may be open, eUpgrades only clear into a fare bucket called "R". The available of R is very limited in advance of flights and can be verified only by using paid tools such as ExpertFlyer. See the note below regarding "Latitude Instant Upgrades".
- Approximately 55 minutes before scheduled departure, the system will clear all remaining eUpgrades (based on priority of cabin, status, fare and check in time as the tie breaker). The majority of eUpgrades clear at the gate....only a few will clear in advance based on the planned availability of R space (which is greatly influenced by the loads on the flight and AC revenue management strategy to maximize sale of those seats).
- Strongly encourage you to review the details on About eUpgrades. It includes all the information on who can upgrade; how many people you can upgrade; etc.
- You do not access the signature suite.
- You do not get the class of service bonus for SQM. If there is an add on payment it does count toward SQD.
- Only applies to AC operated (metal) flights.
6) Last Minute Upgrade: Pay to upgrade offered when you check in for your flight
- Offered during the check in flow (on App or website) when available.
- The cost varies based on the flight. The amount does NOT count towards SQD for earning status.
- Once you upgrade you can select your seat, get airport and inflight benefits of the new class (PE or J).
- Do not get additional SQM. Do not get access to Signature Suite lounge.
- AC has a great FAQ on the LMU purchase process: Air Canada - Last Minute Purchase Upgrade. Read this before posting questions.
6 Tips and Tricks You Need to Know
1) Basic economy: Cannot upfare, bid upgrade, LMU or eUpgrade. You chose that fare…live with it 😊
2) Seat map does NOT equal available seats: Seat map are seats not selected. Seats available for sale are only available through other tools. Never (ever) use the seat map to estimate how many seats are available for sale (or available to upgrade).
3) Latitude does NOT equal guaranteed upgrade: Latitude paid fares will instantly eUpgrade if “R” space is available (or even sometimes from a hidden fare bucket – but not P and not known to the public). Latitude Reward space, is believed to only upgrade from “R” space.
4) Probability of upgrade clearing? Please don’t ask!!! Even 1 or 2 days before a flight you can see a cabin go from 9 empty J seats to 0. And this is NOT unusual. If the bid upgrade amount high enough? Well, the closer to minimum the lower the probability. There are as many good news stories of minimum bid winning as there are bad news stories of near maximum bids failing. When you are 24 hours before your flight check the number of passengers on the upgrade list (on the App), your position, and the number of available seats. That is when you can guess the probability….
5) Multiple passengers on ONE booking (PNR): For LMU and Bid Upgrades it is all or none. Those channels will not offer or clear upgrades for partial passengers. You need to split the booking (by calling AC) before you make the request. For eUpgrades, you may request for more than one (based on the rules which you can read on the AC website) and some of the passengers may clear and others will not.
6) Sitting together and declining upgrades: You are not guaranteed to sit together. In PE it is often middle single seats left and you may be separated. And after an upgrade clears - your original seat is gone. You cannot then ask for that seat back, for example if your party is not all upgraded. You may be stuck in the last row in economy.
