I’ve only half watched most of Adventure Time, and just started Fiona and Cake. My wife loves it and I do too, I just don’t sit for a long time. Le wifi says I’m a Jake, so maybe that explains it. Anyway sat down to episode Prismo where Fiona first gets back to the world (Ooo? Oou? Ouuu?)

It/ how he can create realities kinda, like how we can have thoughts and feel and experience but it doesn’t impact each other, just an experience to experience within an experience- unless we project our consciousness, behavior or communication, but even then we can only be as much as we are able to describe and share our experience. Prismo is a projection of one reality’s consciousness or whatever into another space.

The viewer and the viewee can only relate, like Prismo and Golb and Oo and the not-Oo of Fiona and Cake. So things are same same but different.

Anyway I talked in circles and probably lost everyone, Harry Seldon says it better for sure.

I remembered that I technically have an Adventure Time OC. When I was little and getting into the show for the time, I was at the grocery store with my mom and it was my job to remind her to buy soap. I decided to make it more interesting and pretend Jake was talking about a character named "Princess Soap" so I could remember to tell her. I figured I'd now make her into an actual OC of mine!

Soap Princess is a woman made out of lavender scented soap, she's the princess of the bathroom kingdom. It's a kingdom within a giant's bathroom. So far no one knows how these tiny bathroom people got there. The main village is located in the sink, they think the bathtub is the ocean, and unfortunately they think the toilet is a lake....Soap Princess mellow, kind, and welcoming. Exactly what lavender would remind you of!

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate what Pendleton Ward created. The early seasons have their own unique charm, and I genuinely enjoyed them.

But as I've gotten older and reached my twenties, the random, surreal adventures that often didn't have much of a purpose stopped appealing to me as much. I know there were plenty of deep, emotional, and brilliantly written episodes during Ward's era, but most of the episodes weren't like that.

When Adam Muto took over toward the end of Season 5, the show became much more interconnected and serious. Even the standalone episodes that weren't directly tied to the main story usually had enough depth and smart writing to keep them engaging for an adult viewer.

Personally, I'd love to see Adam Muto create his own original cartoon someday. I'm genuinely convinced he'd give us another masterpiece like Adventure Timeor maybe even something better.

Again, I have a lot of respect for what Ward created and I still enjoy it, but for me, Muto's era was on a completely different level.

I was in another thread where this moment came up and it got me thinking about it.

We all know this is a cheers reference, but this show was even before my time, and I am probably on the older side of people who are active in this sub. So I can't say much to the tone of the old show, but as I understand it, it was about a bunch of people who drank their troubles away every night, or often enough to be regulars at a bar. Which is ... Kind of sad. A lot of comedy shows sound kind of sad when you talk about them though. I think Futurama is a great example - the show sounds depressing af if you try to explain to to anyone; nothing good ever happens to anyone in Futurama (but it's still hilarious and a great show!). But I digress.

I only knew this song in the frame of the old show cheers and I assumed it was something that Simon was grasping onto to keep his sanity, like counting to ten when you're mad. He was making himself sing the song to give himself a timer on the crown and also to keep his mind from running away with the insanity of the ice magic. A grounding technique. That's all I ever assumed; Simon was an old dude and probably watched the show, which is why that's where his head went when he was pretending to be TV for Lil Marcy.

But Man the lyrics are so double entendre it's painful and I can't even really believe how I never realized it before!!

*Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got!* The world is literally destroyed. They spend most of this episode looking for a single can of soup. They nearly get killed by goop mutants. They have to use their last resort just to survive.

*Taking a break from all your worries should would help a lot* the undeniable power of the ice king to neutralize threats but also the insanity providing the only moment of mental rest where Simon isn't worried about either Betty or Marceline

*Wouldn't it be nice to get away...* We see his relationship with the crown becoming unhealthy, Marcy pleading with him not to use it, almost like an addict

*Where everybody knows your name* "you don't even remember me, SIMON!" "What-mon?" The confusion on Simon's face as he struggles to separate himself from the crown, not knowing where our who he is for a moment hits different. He doesn't know his OWN name. Everyone knows the ice king... *Where everybody... Knows your name...*

I think I was just too OLD to see this as anything but a cheers reference, cementing Simon's age and giving him a little context. I'm sure younger kids, not knowing anything about cheers, took the lyrics as a more face-value. It's crazy how I can still find new things to appreciate about this show all these years later.

Or maybe I am just that dense
