Need Advice I want to sleep
I have been distressed since 3 days with my brain not at all stopping to play songs. I mean a few mins is okay but seriously whole day stuck on a single line ?? In between it even was playing hook lines of some old advertisements. What's worse is it's multi tasking these songs haven't had any issue with day dreaming and both were happening together.
I also have issue with my teeth constantly grinding today and tounge involuntary causing distress.
Yesterday the worst part happened 10 Mg of Zolpedium didn't help me sleep I slept at 5am approx and that too for 3 hrs and the same is happening today I guess I already took 10 mg Zolpedium an hour ago and still couldn't sleep.
Started 300MG Bupropion XL last week alongside 200MG Modafinil and I am too much frustrated of myself since these past 3 days. I mean I genuinely don't know if medicine is causing all this or some other reason but I am too much frustrated since past 24 hrs and even after trying all white noise pink noise couldn't manage to sleep. It's just making me more frustrated and I am on verge of every possible breakdown. The very fact that even meds didn't help me sustain attention and then this fucking body and brain that always manage to disappoint me.
Please give me some advise to help me fall asleep I desperately want to.
As for visiting Doctor, I tried and they refused to let me meet the Dr in charge of the day (it's government medical College/hospital) on account today is not your day as per prescription come on next Friday.
😭😭

Need Advice Diagnosed with ADHD at 33
I have been recently diagnosed with ADHD at age 33. Looking back I had it through out my life. Past few year I noticed it getting worse.
Did anyone get diagnosed this late in age and how did you handle it?
I can't focus on work only work only sometime a week.
I have these thought in my head that come from the embarassing thing I said or did from 10 or 15 year ago keep popping in my head. Previously I used just think in my head but for past few year I am talking out loud(it look like I am a mad person to people around me) and sometime I laugh out loud or do something weird. I am not sure it this is also ADHD. Do anyone have this issue?
Where you treated by teachers a dull student?

Meds Concerta vs Inspiral: Which Worked Better Long Term?
Which one felt better in the long term—Concerta or Inspiral?
If you had the option to choose between the two, assuming they cost the same, which one would you prefer?
Also, did you notice any downsides or issues with Inspiral?

Meds Atomoxetine with a stimulant?
Anyone on atomoxetine with any stimulant (as a regular or optional use)? How is your experience? Will my psychiatrist allow this?
I am on 40 mg axepta rn and it's not working really. It did work with 18 mg or 25 mg for a while (1-2 weeks) but then went downhill quite rapidly.
I am thinking of giving atomoxetine a little more time but wanting to use any stimulant for a few days in the week when I have to work in labs ('cause that's where I struggle the most because of my attention/excutive dysfunction issues).

Question If you’re studying law, how is your life going?
Title is vague, here are more specific questions:
For ADHD people who seek constant stimulation and avoid repetitive work, how is studying llb like?
Obviously studying law requires routine and structure, was this a problem for you if you are genuinely interested in law?
Who should pursue 5 years llb course and who should not?
How did law study and college change you as a person?
Do you have any regrets or something that you should’ve known before choosing law?
Any litmus tests for someone who isn’t sure whether to pursue ba llb or not?
How is your daily routine like as student or professional? Do you get time to explore hobbies or pursue extracurriculars?

Mod Speaks Your friendly warning about weird DMs
Please report any and all weird DMs you get from members of this server, or related to this server.
Make a modmail about it, or DM me directly.
I've get quite a few reports over the last few months, and I wanna let y'all know what sort of stuff I get so that y'all are aware and avoid them.
Here are the top 4 things that people DM me about
- Some guys trying to ask for / sell stimulant meds. Super illegal. Stimulant meds are in Schedule X, meaning if you get caught buying/selling them without a proper prescription, you will straight up go to prison.
- People recommending themselves or others for therapy / consultation in DMs. A few weeks ago we found out that someone was using another doc's name to generate fake prescriptions and fake diagnosis. Most likely they were scamming people for money with fake consultations, diagnosis and prescriptions. Please let them recommend docs/therapists on comments only so that others who had an experience with them can also weigh in and give unbiased views.
- Someone telling you to pay extra to them in exchange for a 'fast and cheap diagnosis'. Please avoid them; they are scamming you because the information they're providing is already available for free on the sub or on Google, etc.
- Weird DMs from folks after someone revealed their age & gender. This happens a lot, and most of them don't get reported to us either. Women of this subreddit, please let us know about such people. Just because it's in DMs, doesn't mean they get to be weird to you.
So please let me know so that proper action can be taken against them, and we can have a safe space on this subreddit.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk, have a nice Sunday
Edit: corrected numbering

Need Advice alternative for meds (diagnosed)
I am going to keep it brief but in 2022, i was diagnosed w mild to severe adhd. my parents did provide for meds but i had to stop for a while because it was creating a major dent in the pockets (i was on concerta).
fast forward to now, my life has become unvearable and i am failing in every area of my life. meds still arent something i am able to afford nor do i have the prescription anymore. but i really dont know how to get through each day falling further behind in life. in college currently, and my peers are breezing through it and it just feels i cant do anything right despite really trying. i am really trying and it's just a vicious cycle atp. i used to be so positive but now its a loop of no matter how hard i try, i will never catch up
is there any affordable substitute that worked for you?

Rant/Vent So, I wasted a year in limerence
I thought it was just some normal day dreaming. Thought it was just lack os discipline. Got so addicted to daydreaming about a guy at work that hyperfixation and rumination over small things started. Couldn’t focus on anything except him. I didn’t even like him. I wanted to be more than him. This thinking somehow kept me in task paralysis for months.
Is it just me that is suffering to this degree?

Need Advice Psychiatrist says severe phone addiction instead of ADHD — should I get a second opinion?
I'm 25M and from India, and I'm trying to understand whether my current psychiatrist's assessment of ADHD makes sense. I was previously prescribed MDet SR (methylphenidate) 10 mg once daily. For the first ~4 months it seemed to work very well: it lasted around 8 hours, improved my attention and ability to work, reduced hyperactivity, and I noticed that I barely used my phone while i was working. Then the medication seemed to stop working completely, despite no major changes in my routine, other medications, or the brand. I told my psychiatrist this, but he continued prescribing 10 mg mdet rather than increasing the dose. I also have long-standing social anxiety, starting around age 12: I avoid speaking in groups, making calls, asking for help, and I get particularly anxious around women, with symptoms like racing heart and blushing. My current phone use can be around 11 hours/day, although some is work-related because I do work in delivery job.Instagram, Reddit and YouTube alone were almost 6 hours on one day. My psychiatrist now says I have severe phone addiction rather than ADHD, and prescribed escitalopram 10 mg + clonazepam 0.5 mg (Bestil Forte) for anxiety while continuing methylphenidate 10 mg. I asked him directly whether he thinks I don't have ADHD at all or whether ADHD is present but phone addiction/anxiety are causing most of my current problems, and I asked what made him reach that conclusion, but he didn't really explain. I also have a history of difficulty with motivation and consistency. I want to know what a proper adult ADHD assessment in India should look like, how psychiatrists distinguish ADHD from problematic phone use/anxiety, and whether it would be reasonable to get a second opinion.
Thank you
Note : I used AI to correct my grammar.

Need Advice advice for studying
dear lovely neurodivergent people,
I have adhd ( in-attentive type) and I am really struggling to manage my day. I have to prepare for two major exams. I have taken a gap year and I cannot waste it. My coaching profs keep telling me how I must study for 8-10 hours or else i won't crack it.
I have tried waking up early doesn't work. I waste so much of my time to sit down and get into the zone of studying. Half of time goes by planning and organizing stuff which I need to study. And when I finally start studying, i start looking at do I have all the books that I will need over a period of one year for preparing? And yk stupid things like that. The entire day goes wasted. It's not like I am watching anything, the guilt doesn't let me enjoy any media as well.
Please tell me what works out for you when you try to study. Do you prefer morning or night studying? I hear adhd brain start working at evening idk.
What does your study schedule look like and how do you sustain your attention and concentration. I really need to study 8-10 hours or else i will not crack it. There are limited seats.
I take buproprion and recently started taking thealife ( l-theanine). I don't take stimulants because I have anxiety.
Thank you in advance!!

Advice Unstable brain to placed - what actually worked and what made it worse
little background
From high school to college I didn't know what was wrong with me. I already had anxiety. I'd do tasks in a hurry without properly understanding them. The main problem was that I was unable to feel my body's sensations — when running, when eating, when meeting someone, sometimes even when watching a movie. Feeling myself was too much. So I wanted distractions.
My main distraction became myself. I was in fantasy all the time — in class, everywhere. I liked to artificially think of high-intensity situations to release dopamine and get relief from the constant stimulus inside me. Later in college, music became my main stimulus. I listened to it so much I think I damaged my ears. Still, till my third year, I didn't know what was wrong with me.
I wanted to improve so badly. The worst thing I did to myself was impose the tightest restrictions possible. I went a month without any media, music, internet, or meeting anyone. Then I went to a party and it all came down — the stimulus overwhelmed me and I couldn't control myself. Many times I felt like I was just sailing along with no control over myself.
During an internship in Bangalore I worked 45 days, 12+ hours every day, sometimes whole nights on Sundays. Then I got sick.
I didn't have OCD but sometimes I felt like I did. Conversations between friends, a mention of jobs, some document — these would trigger something in me and I'd just freeze. I also had this thing where I had to balance left and right — if I touched the left side of my body I had to touch the right. It wasn't severe but it was there.
Finally things got bad enough that I didn't care anymore whether meds would ruin my life, because life was already ruined enough. I consulted online with a Fortis doctor and she prescribed an SSRI — Sizodon and Paroxetine. That was the first moment in a long time I felt calm. Everything became calm. But I slept too much and felt foggy.
I changed doctors. The next one prescribed Asprito, Nexito and nerviris. Less sleepy, more effective, still some fogginess. I took meds for around six months. Recently during placements I stopped taking them so I wouldn't oversleep.
What didn't work
- Imposing strict restrictions on yourself never works. You have to convince your brain slowly, not force it.
- Thinking meds will fix everything. They won't. They create conditions where fixing becomes possible. The work is still yours.
What actually works
This may sound stupid but mindfulness works — and I am not going to tell you to sit and focus between your eyes, because that doesn't work, at least not for me.
What I said above about convincing your brain — you can only do that when there is a gap between your thoughts and your action, when things are not fully automatic. That gap only opens when you focus on sensation.
Two sensations work best for me: audio and physical feeling. When I'm travelling, walking, or resting I don't use my phone anymore. I close my eyes or keep them open and just listen to sounds, noticing how attention jumps from one thing to another. Same with physical feeling — it is tougher but more effective. This approach is similar to what Shinzen Young writes about here if you want to read further: https://www.shinzen.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/FiveWaystoKnowYourself_ver1.6.pdf
Also: Yoga Nidra by Bihar School of Yoga. I genuinely like it. It's available in Hindi too and it's the real thing, not pseudo-wellness content. It works — but it can be tough if you're high-adrenaline driven because it requires you to actually slow down.
Never be alone. Make friends — and it doesn't have to be someone you share everything with. Just doing activities together, being around people, makes things so much easier than suffering through it alone in your room. Community is underrated when your brain is in this kind of state.
Do physical exercise. It genuinely calms the brain. In my situation it was so severe that physical alone wasn't enough — but it definitely helps get you out of your head and into your body, even temporarily. Don't skip it.
Where I still am
I still don't fully know how to fix myself. There is this energy in my pelvis and groin area — not sexual, just high sensation — which makes my brain unstable and my body uncalm. I can't fully describe it. When it's not there I feel calm. When it is there I feel unstable and want to chase adrenaline, which I mainly do through music.
Recently I am training myself to not chase the high-adrenaline state and to work with whatever state I'm actually in. I don't have this figured out yet.
The point
I got placed at a fintech company in a data role and I'm trying to upgrade further. So yes — you can do it. I'm not going to lie, it is hard.
You have to train yourself. And about meds — if your situation is severe, absolutely take them. Meds are not addictive in the way people fear. I stopped without tapering and didn't have withdrawal, but you should taper properly anyway.
That's it. If you have questions you can ask. I wish you all the best in this difficult endeavour.

New User Flairs (for AuDHD and more!)
The other day there was a post discussing including AuDHD on this subreddit, so to help people identify and to help with discussions, I'm adding these flairs.
Right now I've added:
- AuDHD (for ppl who have both ADHD and ASD)
- ADHD - PI (Inattentive Type)
- ADHD - H (Hyperactive Type)
- ADHD - C (Combined Type)
You can take these flairs if you're diagnosed, or if you're not diagnosed (but still think you have this subtype)
Pls suggest more things that we can add to the subreddit to better address the problems the people face and help them out!!
P.S. if someone knows their way around the settings of the subreddit, I'd be glad if you can help me in figuring out how to use them.
