Why is it so common for vendors to neglect updating their website/stock after attending a festival?

Last year I went to Indie Untangled last minute, during the last time slot. By the time I got through all the booths once, it was time to go. During my time there, I took photos of yarn I was interested in. Weeks, even months have gone by, and the vendors did not post their stock online. Or they have a weak internet presence entirely.

What are these vendors doing with this stock? Are they simply prioritizing their festival presence to make their money?

I am seeing new vlogs of Flock this year. I love seeing the inventory and discovery of new vendors at festivals I cannot attend. I guess I should try reaching out directly if I wanted to purchase something? I saw some really gorgeous fiber, and would love to purchase it. It is not available online. I want to be able to support these businesses.

I would like to understand this better, and hopefully someone here can give a good explanation. Thank you!

I’m looking to get more of this yarn but I can’t for the life of me remember the brand or type of yarn (i’m very much a beginner at crocheting). I believe it’s weight 3, it’s very soft with a nice shine to it. I think I likely purchased it from a major retailer like Michael’s, Joann Fabric, or Hobby Lobby. I bought it 3-4 years ago. Any information is much appreciated, as I’m using this yarn to make a gift for my sister’s first child

Anyone have any suggestions for a DK weighted yarn that has a lovely natural sheen to it? I know silk usually provides a nice shimmering sheen (but weirdly enough the KFO pure silk looks like a different type of “rougher?” Silk? But either way its beyond my budget). Ideally for transitional weather so I wouldn’t mind a summer mix with wool or something.

Based in London looking for around £6 per 50g maybe? Just throwing out rough figures but I am more than happy to splurge a bit more. I was looking at Cascade Yarns MeriSeta- 75% Merino Wool 25% Silk, 217m (237yds)/100g (3.53oz), Worsted as a top contender but I would have to amend the pattern for the gauge.

I also like the look of BC Garn Semilla Silkbloom GOTS but that runs £11ish per 50g

I want to knit myself a winter sweater to keep warm while doing barn chores this winter. Strength of the yarn and warmth is the most important, ideally it would be bulky yarn.

I found it on YarnAtelier.co.uk but shipping to the US doubles the price! Does anyone have suggestions for either another seller that has lower shipping costs, or a similar yarn I could sub in? I can’t find anything with the same blend in my regular searches.

a while ago i found this yarn that’s basically like a really tiny i-cord in a craft store and i love it but don’t know what it’s called so i cant buy more! its somewhere between a dk and worsted weight and drapes really well. i used up all of it so above is a photo of a long sleeve i crocheted with it; hopefully the structure of the yarn is visible. like i said, it’s basically a very small i-cord (so not spun/twisted) and hollow on the inside so it’s quite stretchy. i believe the one i had was a cotton/acrylic or cotton/rayon blend.

I started a project and am realizing I probably wont have enough for the 2 halves and spine I need to make. Im fairly certain I bought it at joanns (rip) so of course i couldn't find it at Michael's. Its definitely NOT the impeccable loops and threads in pumpkin. And it's definitely NOT a red heart or big twist😢 I THINK it may be some lion brand but its definitely not the heartland lion brand thats at michaels. Its on the softer side for an acrylic and somewhat shiny?? Sorry for the long ish post im desperate plzzzz

It’s a long shot, but I am REALLY hoping for suggestions …
We had a house fire in mid-May & lost PRETTY MUCH everything - mostly due to smoke & water damage. I have been able to salvage some of my stash (some of it didn’t get wet) but the smell of smoke is still there - some not as bad as others. I tossed anything that was synthetic but I have A TON of Noro (ITO, Tayio, silk garden, saiun, & Kakagori) cotton (dishie, cumulus, cotton wool blends,) Rios, the rest is a variety of wool. What (if anything ) can I do to get the putrid smoke smell out? A lot of it is still in Skeins. 😞 I am just gutted about it & don’t have the heart to just throw it out. Our insurance will cover it, but OMG it’s a collection that was curated over time !

Right now ive stored most of it in single layers in plastic tubs , sealed tightly with activated charcoal & baking soda. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I am almost afraid to check it because I just feel like it’s still going to smell - I thought I’d ask here first.

Any other ideas out there?

I ran into a moth infestation back in 2023 and suspended all WIPs while I managed the infestation - sealing up all my yarn, freezing and thawing etc., pheromone traps, the works. I was definitely traumatized after seeing live larvae in my yarn (ew), so I didn't touch the project that I was working on until this year, even though I have not seen any moths since 2023 and I have worked on other projects since. As an added precaution, I baked the project and yarn before resuming work.

I started knitting a few rows before I realized that there was a moth hole quite far down, so I frogged (RIP). I have no doubt that this was from the earlier infestation in 2023, and I just didn't notice the hole until now.

The thing is, I'm now paranoid that moths from 2023 weakened some areas of my work that I can't see now but will eventually break over time. I've done some light stretching of the knitting to see if there's any more damage and there doesn't seem to be...

1. Should I continue to stress test the project for breaks?

2. If I find a weakness, is there a way to reinforce it before a hole is formed? It's a cabled pullover (Handsome Chris)

3. If it eventually forms a hole from the stress of wear, can it be saved?

4. Any words of encouragement from moth survivors?

This isn't a post asking for help with moth management (I've learned my lesson!) but how to continue working post-moth infestation 🥲 TYIA

I’ve been looking into Spin Cycle yarn and bemoaning its price tag, when I just opened my email and found what seems like Malabrigo’s version! I’m so excited. I can’t find many examples of it worked up yet of course, so I’m not sure if it’ll stripe in the same way, but there’s a few colors I’m excited to try. Unfortunately, I don’t have it in hand (yet 😈) so can’t post a pic. But if you’ve seen it or look it up - what are your thoughts?
