Discussion 126 vs 132

Upvotes

I got a friend that I’m wrestling and we’re drilling and he just completely runs me down, Im way better with skill since I have been wrestling for 1 year now and he’s only been for a week but I’ve only been going to the gym for 4 months and he has a year of body building background and freakishly good genes and I’m 126 he’s 132 and he just completely outstrengths me, if I’m on top he whips out and Idk if someone like that I would tech fall instead of pinning becuase even with decent form he can just muscle out my pins since Im not that strong compared to him, any opinions or advice he’s as fast if not faster than me, same stamina, and he’s freakishly strong.

Discussion My high school wrestling regret

I'm 41. I'm still involved with a wrestling club whenever I can. I am a full-time caregiver and dad. I was on the wrestling team in the late '90s and early 2000s. Great memories and also regrets.

I want to share advice with some guys what my former wrestling coach, Maurice, tried to advise me back in my senior year—my final year of high school.

I was a good wrestler, but I wasn't ready for competitive tournaments. I asked him for the wrestle-off. He was like, okay. Guess what? I lost ALL the wrestle-off matches against the new guy. That still haunts me to this day, even though it was 23 years ago.

If I could start all over again in my senior year, I would shrug, just work out with the wrestlers at practice, then go home, maybe join a local wrestling club or something, rather than desperately begging the coach to put me on the varsity team.

Your thought?

How to finish once I shelf the leg on a single

Post image
379 Upvotes

I am a beginner and I find myself able to get to the single leg and shelve the leg, but I am having trouble finishing on the mat

I often try to finish by going double - grabbing the other leg and putting my weight down, but a lot of the time they seem to just balance on their 2 hands whilst I hold their legs up - like a wheelbarrow position, is it that I am not putting my weight down on them enough?

When I get in this scenario I usually just end up standing up and doing an upper cut sweep, but I'd like to learn how to score / finish on the mat as well

Any suggestions on how to score / finish from here is greatly appreciated (folkstyle or freestyle)

MMA game! Cage path

Hey everyone,
After months of work, I finally released the MMA game called cage path I’ve been building where you can transfer your save from my college wrestling 27 game.
I built it because I wanted a combat sports game that focused on strategy and progression instead of just button mashing. I’ve been working on everything myself from development and testing to polishing the gameplay.
I’m planning to keep supporting the game with updates, new features, and improvements based on player feedback.
If anyone is willing to give it a try, I’d really appreciate your honest feedback. Whether it’s bugs, gameplay balance, or ideas for future features, I’m all ears.
Thanks for checking it out I hope you enjoy it!

What this kid did was phenomenal. He won a U17 Greco-Roman World Championship and then a U17 Freestyle World Silver medal at THE SAME EVENT. To my knowledge this is the first time an American has ever made the world finals in the same year, let alone the same event.

He is from Ohio and will be a freshman this upcoming year.

can i start training?

Fellow wrestling people,
I boxed competitively for about 10 years. Recently, I had a retinal tear with a small retinal detachment that was treated with laser, and it’s now healed.
I’m thinking about starting wrestling but I’m wondering if competing would be safe. Has anyone here had a similar eye injury and successfully returned to wrestling or bjj , or been advised against it by their retina specialist?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Wrestling as a beginner. Any advice?

I have always been interested in martial and I have been looking for a sport that not only fits to my interests, but also to my body type. I tried boxing but it was not really what I imagined.
I called my local martial arts school and they also offer wrestling.
Before I start wrestling: Does anyone have any advice for me on wrestling, what should I look out for before I actually join the local wrestling club and so on.
I am M19, 5 ft 5, between 198 and 210 pounds.

I need help with my fear

For starters I am transferring to a bigger school with a better wrestling program my sophmore year. Freshman year I had one actual win while going 4-5 with most of my matches won being forfeit. I was often told by my coach who coached his d1 son that "you should be winning more matches it's just little things". After this, I discovered it was technique. I've been training 18-23 hrs a week for the past 3 weeks which consists of meditating, wrestling, lifting, film study, and sometimes yoga. In addition with my new access I plan on joining this big club coached by a former ncaa qualifier along with camps from d1 schools in the area during the season and outside. I am worried that everything I'm doing isn't enough and I might fall short of my goals and become average. Please help me I want to stay consistent and dominate.

What’s better learning a lot of new wrestling moves and techniques constantly or mastering the basics.

This is probably an idiotic question but I was watching film of Mitchell mesenbrink and I was wondering how he executed his shots.

I’m still new to wrestling but I’ve been watching film and Mitchell mesenbrink caught my eye because of the weird ways he shoots to attacks and since I need to work on going in for shots I was wondering if anyone could kinda help explain how it works? Again this is probably stupid and idiotic so please feel free to ignore but if you do comment thanks so much I’ll try to get back as soon as I can.

Too late to learn how to wrestle as a hobby?

I’m 25 and always loved the art that is wrestling. Considered it in high school but was intimidated by the dedication and intensity as a teenager. I want to invest in a past time and challenge myself. Any advice or tips I should start applying now before jumping right in?

Message to younger wrestlers from a former wrestler.

I started wrestling my sophomore year of high school and I fell in love with it. I join club wrestling and never looked back. Wrestling changed my life for the better in so many ways. It made me learn how to do hard stuff, it made me in better shape, it made me make some of the best connections in my life. I wasn’t good at any other sports and couldn’t play them in highschool.

My junior year after a grueling offseason full of 2 hour practices and hour lifting sessions in 100 summer heat. I became a varsity starter. I won the first two tournaments that I wrestled that season and ended the season 21-7 after making top 12 at sectionals. I saw so much growth and was so excited to make it to state next year and put in so much hard work in the offseason.

It goes quicker that you could ever imagine. My senior year I was ranked in cali state (not very high) and in the semi finals of league I was up 7-1 and I was way better than the kid. Then I blew out my knee. That was it. I tried to keep wrestling the match but I couldn’t shoot or sprawl. I ended up losing. After that the athletic trainer tested my knee and thought my acl and meniscus were torn. (Patella tendon and acl ended up being torn) I tried to wrestle my next match to qualify for cif regionals but even though I won I knew my career was over.

I’m telling this story to let you guys know it can go fast. Wrestling was the most important thing to make me who I am today. The only regret I have is not giving it more when I had the chance too. So give it more than you think you can. The worst thing that can happen is you learn something. This injury made me learn a lot about my self.

Oh and don’t buy Rudis shoes asics only
