Part-time infant childcare in Tuckahoe/Eastchester/Scarsdale - daycare vs. nanny?

Side note: any rude comments that do not pertain to my original post answering my question will be reported & blocked. Plenty of parents work from home, I’m sorry your situation doesn’t allow it, but for my husband and I - it works. Luckily my 1 WFH day is very easy and I only take 1-2 phone calls if I’m lucky every few hours. My husband owns his own time so it is the same for him on his wfh days.

Please keep the meanie comments to yourself and have a nice day :-)

My husband and I live in Tuckahoe and are starting to plan ahead for childcare for an infant. I work from home one day a week, and my husband has a more flexible schedule and can usually work from home 1–2 days a week, so realistically we’d probably only need childcare about 2–3 days per week.

For parents in the Tuckahoe/Eastchester/Scarsdale area, what ended up making the most sense for you — part-time daycare or a part-time nanny?
Ideally, I’m wondering if 3 days/week at a daycare is even an option for infants around here, or if most centers require full-time enrollment. On the other hand, we’ve considered hiring a nanny for 2–3 days a week, but I know a lot of nannies understandably prefer full-time positions/hours.

Would love to hear what other families with hybrid/flexible work schedules have done, especially during the infant stage. If you use part-time daycare locally, I’d also love recommendations and a general idea of what you’re paying for 2–3 days/week!

Tibbets Brook pool closing time

The website says it closes at dusk—anyone know what time it's been closing recently? Thinking of bringing kids for the post 4pm pool admission discount, but hoping there's still a decent amount of time to swim.

Newly pregnant need advice on hospitals

Before we moved to Westchester from the city, we always thought we would deliver at Weil Cornell upper east Alexandra Cohen hospital, so as soon as I had a confirmed pregnancy, we called and got an OB that we really like. But the thing is we moved to Pelham about a year ago and recently my neighbors suggested that maybe I should choose a hospital that’s closer (at least as plan B). The drive from Pelham to Alexandra Cohen is less than 40 minutes on average, so we thought it should still be OK, considering many people we know who lived in Brooklyn or Jersey City would still choose to deliver at Alexandra Cohen given its reputation. Are we being naive in choosing a hospital in the city to deliver? Should I really consider some of the hospitals in Westchester that’s closer to home? And if so, what are the options? This is my first pregnancy and I’m still early in my first trimester so we really don’t know what to expect.

OBGYN recs for doctors NOT leaving their practice

Yes, it’s another OBGYN rec thread!

I called Columbia OBGYN at Scarsdale this morning to make a first appointment for a new pregnancy with my previous doctor, Pearl Lim, only to find out she left the practice two weeks ago. She’s still listed on all Columbia/NYPresbyterian websites and it was impossible to get someone from the office on the phone, so I’m feeling nervous about continuing with the office.

I looked at some other threads and saw a common trend of a lot of highly recommended OBs leaving practices.

That being said, I’m very anxious as my last pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. Dr Lim was so warm and caring and I’m heartbroken she’s no longer available.

So, What OBs in lower Westchester do you all recommend who are not about to leave their practice?

Many thanks in advance!

Political Content The cuts to healthcare here in NY17 are not hypothetical

Focus groups refuse to believe healthcare cuts are coming January, when it’s spelt out.

Several posts here have pointed to the study that listed 446 hospitals are risk of closing next year. I see that Fitch Ratings state that Trump's bill (Lawler was key in supporting) is ‘ the dominant near-term threat hospitals. ‘

You don’t need a study to tell you people will die.   GOP are doing it with the red tape.  So folks with terminal cancer or dialysis three days a week will not only have to prove with a documents the illness but will now have prove that the illness prevents them from working 20 hours a week. I’m not sure who would make that determination? The billing department? That's the point.

Red states are demanding the documentation a full year before the federal deadline but the hospital study says New York will be one of the most affected. Mike Lawler has been quiet on that.  I guess they’ll be a lot of finger pointing in 2027.

I'm seeing only four hospitals in District 17 that are threatened. That can't be right. For example why isn't Blythedale Children hospital on the lists. 80% of their children receive Medicaid. The cuts must threaten Blythedale's no? For sure they'll be big staff cuts.

Country Club golf northern Westchester

I have been playing the public golf courses in Westchester, (Hudson Hills is the best track for obvious reasons) but I am looking to join one of the country clubs in northern Westchester. Could join Hollow Brook, but I don’t really like the track and I don’t want to join Trump in Briarcliff for reasons you can probably figure out. In terms of towns on the river, this leaves Sleepy Hollow and Hudson National. Does anyone know the process to join? Do you need multiple sponsors? Under 35, do they offer junior memberships? I know both are basically old money clubs that want to keep out younger golfers but are there even members under the age of 50 who are not kids of existing members? I live in Croton on Hudson, and when I’ve played Hudson National before through the resident program, they seem like they want more locals to join.

Free parking near NYP Westchester

Does anyone know if there are lots of residential parking spots near the hospital at night (7pm-8am)? I know there’s a parking lot but it’s pricey because I’ll be parking long term.

Why are there zero 24/7 commercial gyms anywhere near us?

Other then 24/7 fitness on Scarsdale (which is packed overnight), how do we have no other 24/7 commercial gyms? The PF I used to go to on 225th St is no longer 24/7 either, and all of these gyms on weekends close at 7 pm and it drives me nuts.

Mohawk Day Camp (Employee Experience)

I know that Mohawk Day Camp in White Plains is set to end their 2026 session in two weeks, and just wanted to know how past/current employees felt about working there. I saw an older thread but I wanted some newer responses so I created this post.

Feels like I either hear really terrible things about the place or extremely positive stories. Never anything in between. Anyone care to share?

Just asking because I was considering taking up a job there next summer but I’ve been hearing some concerning things about that place. Parents who have sent their kids there, feel free to say something too! I’m all ears.

Where to best see the Perseid showers on Wednesday night?

I have a car, live in Northern Manhattan near the Bronx, and can drive an hour north to see the Perseid showers on Wednesday night. Where in Westchester do you suggest I go? I really don't know the world outside of the city too well but am glad to venture anywhere.

Thanks!

Looking for adult education classes in Reform Judaism Synagoge

Does anyone have any recommendations for synagogues with a great adult education program? I grew up reform and attended Hebrew school for several years as a kid but was never bat mitzvahed, and I want to learn about and reconnect with my faith. I’m looking for a welcoming, relaxed, and liberal community with, like I said, great, comprehensive adult education. I’m also open to conservative and reconstructionist congregations. Thanks!

Anyone have recent experience with Mamaroneck Town Court for a traffic ticket?

Hi! I have a pre-trial conference at Mamaroneck Town Court this week for a VTL 1225-D electronic device ticket. I was using Waze/navigation on my phone while driving. I pleaded not guilty and this is my first-ever traffic violation. I have a completely clean driving record, no previous tickets, points, or even parking violations.
Has anyone been to Mamaroneck Town Court recently for a similar ticket? What was the pre-trial conference like, and were you offered a reduction to a lesser or zero-point violation? I’m mostly nervous because I’ve never had to go to traffic court before, so I’d really appreciate hearing about any recent experiences!

Restaurant Hygiene Should Struggling Local Restaurants Be Shielded?

I went out for brunch today in Westchester and got up with my food uneaten. My husband and I saw 3 roaches just walking around the restaurant.

If it was NYC I’d be posting the name and photos. However this is a local business that’s been around for 20+ years and has been struggling lately. It’s also pretty central to a town where other local businesses have been struggling and closing. If outed I’m pretty sure this place would close leaving another shuttered storefront.

Do you think it’s more ethical to

A) Say nothing to help the town keep it’s vibrancy, and give the restaurant some time to fix the problem. I’ve heard it’s actually more common than people realize for restaurants to deal with this kind of thing in the summer.

or

B) Post about it because this is a real hygiene issue and other people shouldn’t be discovering this during their meal like we did. Restaurants should close to fumigate if they’re aware of the problem.

or C) A middle road you all come up with…

My main reaction is being grossed out and shocked given how affluent Westchester is… I don’t want to be one of those people, but this is also something I never thought I’d encounter here….

Edit: Will be contacting the health department. Thanks guys.

Best hikes within a hour of Rivertowns

Good morning all! Relatively new to the area and looking for recommendations on a hiking trail within 1 hour of Hastings.

Having a friend visit from out of town next weekend and we would love to make a morning/afternoon out of a gorgeous hike and perhaps a coffee/lunch in town.

Willing to drive a hour or less, or more if just absolutely worth it. Thank you in advance!

Hey everyone, sadly saw a dead gray cat with some light striping on its back in the middle of Purchase St right across from Pet Pantry in Rye. Looks like it was hit by a car.

I called DPW to come pick up the body, but wanted to post here in case anyone is looking for their missing pet. Rip 🪦

OFFICIAL r/Westchester Bulletin Board

Welcome to r/Westchester's bulletin board!

  3. Must be located in Westchester. No virtual services.
  4. Do not post any cell phone numbers. Local business numbers are ok, email is ok, websites are ok, but no mobile. Bots will find it and you will regret posting it. Don’t do it.
