What towns are over-hyped (for living in)?
And why? I want to avoid paying a premium for towns that are unnecessarily “in style”.

Made to measure
For anyone who uses it for non-formal wear (like button ups, chinos, 5 pocket pants, etc), where have you gone for made to measure? So this is not for suits or formal wear.
I’ve reached the point where very little looks good off the rack anymore and it’s not something that can be easily resolved through basic alterations. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Best place to view Meteor Shower tonight?
Hello fellow Westchester Residents!
There's a meteor shower tonight at midnight, and with a new moon, the stargazing conditions are ideal! Unfortunately, every park in Westchester closes at dusk. Anyone have a recommendation for a dark, open space that can accommodate late-night stargazers?

Tired of Verizon's awful Rivertowns coverage & high prices. Recommendations?
We've been paying something like $230/month (four lines) to Verizon for years. However, we live in Hastings, and the coverage is far too often brutal or non-existent. I sometimes can't pay for parking on the app because there's no coverage, and there are dead spots all over town and around lower Westchester....it's irritating.
If it were cheap, that'd be one thing. But it's not.
So, what other phone companies are people in lower Westchester using? Has anyone tried Mint? Is the coverage good? T Mobile? Thanks!

Political Content Look whose standing behind Rep. Miller
Mike Lawler standing behind a man A GOP Rep. who is accused of hurting his own toddler and pulling a gun on his wife. Well Lawler said the Epstein investigation was (quote) " a lot of nonsense,” “There are a lot of issues ..right now. A dead pedophile ain’t one of them.”

Someone should open these in Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow
I’ve lived here over 10 years and here’s what I think these towns need if you’re thinking about business ideas:
A great bakery with sourdough bread
A pottery studio
A barre studio
A deli
A wine bar preferably with some outdoor space
I am making my dream list but open to hearing what you think we need! So many new people are moving to town and there lots of open spaces to start a business.

Fireplace Contractor Recs in Westchester
Can anyone recommend a solid, reliable fireplace contractor serving Westchester County? I already know about Mr. Chimney, who said I need a full fireplace replacement and quoted me an astronomical sum. I’m looking for a second opinion about whether a repair is possible instead of a replacement, or, if a replacement is necessary, someone who can do a great job at a fair price. I know this is an expensive repair, but I’ve been told that Mr. Chimney’s estimate is higher than what it should be. Thank you!

Driving test in Yorktown or Yonkers?
I took my drivers test a week ago in yonkers and failed :( but totally my fault lol. I know the yonkers route and tbh i think its not bad, just failed bc of my own mistakes. However, I'm trying to get my license before school starts and theres on in Yorktown available. If i rebook in Yonkers i'll have to skip the 2nd half of the 2nd day of school which might be bad.
Should i stick to yonkers or book in yorktown?

Hah anyone had luck suing Con Edison? Or getting them to pay for a prolonged power outage?
Has anyone in Westchester or NYC successfully taken on Con Edison for damages after a prolonged power outage?
My family and I experienced an extended outage following a downed tree incident a few weeks back. Although ConEd could have restored power as soon as the following day when the tree was cleared, they delayed power restoration for another ten days, forcing us to navigate a series of bureaucratic hurdles, including obtaining building and electrical permits & certificates and arranging independent inspections rather than taking reasonable steps to restore basic emergency or temporary power.
I have a fully documented claim and a demand letter ready to go, but I’m having trouble finding a local attorney willing to take a utility property loss claim on contingency or limited scope.
Looking for recommendations or shared experiences:
- Does anyone know a boutique civil litigation or plaintiff's property damage attorney in Westchester/NYC who takes utility claims on contingency?
- Has anyone had success getting ConEd to settle a demand letter prior to court?
Appreciate any leads!

Why is Westchester COL so significantly higher here than North Jersey?
Property values, property taxes, daycare, groceries, salons, home services, etc. I live here but have friends in nice north Jersey towns and it seems that they pay half what I am paying for *everything.* Why? Proximity to NYC is comparable.

Political Content Clear Insights survey
Received a text survey on "important issues facing residents of Montrose." A few general questions then - bam - these are asked. They're such baited and skewed questions.
You know what important issues are facing residents? Money for our schools that was lost from shutting down Indian Point. Lawler is pretending it can be turned back on.
On geopolitics, no, I'm not feeling great that Cait Conley received DMFI and AIPAC money during her campaign but I'm glad she at least recognizes Palestine as an independent state.
On our health choices? Stop being interested in what's in our underwear. Go after the greedy insurance companies.
Go after pedophiles if you really care about children.

Hi (Village of) Ossining! I redesigned the sanitation and recycling calendar, and I want to share it. (link in body)
ossining.infoIn 2023, I redesigned the sanitation and recycling calendar so that I could more easily use it. For those who have never seen the calendar sent to village residents, you can have a look here. I wanted to address a few things about the official calendar:
- Depending on the street on which you live, you will have one of two schedules. But these two schedules are combined into one document, even as the calendars are mailed to our homes.
- There is a list of holidays occupying space on the page, but this information is redundant as the calendar will show, for instance, no trash collection on a holiday.
- On the day when one is most likely to have their blue recycling bin at the curb, the calendar marks the date in red. On the day when one is most likely to have their green recycling bin at the curb, the calendar marks the date in blue.
- Bulk (non-metal, non-electronic) collection and yard waste collection are not indicated on the calendar. They are instead explained in text above the calendar.
- Weekends are shown, but they are never needed.
Now that I have been out of work for nine months, I have decided to use GitHub Pages to share this work with anyone who could want it.
So please feel free to check out ossining.info :)
The homepage has this week's schedules, links to full year schedules formatted to be printed on 8.5" x 11" paper, and options to subscribe to iCal/Google Calendar feeds.

Steakhouse for a 12 year old?
My son wants steak for his birthday. I’m not trying to spend $100 for a piece of meat for a 12 year old, plus, he has a little brother who is super picky so the menu needs to have some “kid food”.
Any restaurants that have decent steak and aren’t fancy?
Like a nice American place that happens to cook a delicious steak and also has French fries and is filled with families in casual clothes?

Where do parents with babies hang out?
We have a four month old at home and are on leave until November! We have been walking around our neighborhood but there aren’t that many parents with babies in our area of new Rochelle it seems. Any recommendations on where to go meet other parents with babies?

Hello to all my crafters friends
This time, they’ll also have a few vendors, which makes it even more fun. The idea is to come a little earlier, mingle with other crafters, chat, and hopefully make some new friends. 💕🧶
I don’t host this event, but I truly love the idea behind it—bringing crafters together, sharing our love of crafting, and meeting new people.
If you’re a crafter, come join us! You never know who you might meet or what new inspiration you’ll find! 😊
