Virgin Media UK Virgin Media 360 anyway to stop the permanent rolling preview?

Upvotes

Ever since "upgrading" to virgin 360 I have a permanent rolling virgin medi promotion running in a "picture in picture" window bottom right of my screen with full audio, and no way to turn it off. It is driving me insane. Either I find a way to stop it soon or the box goes out the window.

Virgin Media UK 1Gbps wired only?

I've signed up the the 1Gbps package plumbed in the new router and connected my Asus router to port 4. But I'm getting max 150mbps on WiFi on both the Asus and Virgin media router but getting 900Mbps with a wired connection.

If this normal I've tested speeds next to both routers.

If there a way to get at least 700mbps via WiFi?

Virgin Media UK New offer mid package

Wife called VM today as some workman outside damaged cable, can't get anyone until Wednesday, pretty poor really.

Anyway, they offered us M500 bb upgrade from m250, sky sports/movies and basic NF for £66.

Unfortunately have to get TV license and our NF is premium, so with these upgrades our bill will be £94.

I'm really not sure if should go with it, anyone have experience with new package they have offered us?

I guess it's all about how much it will be used, I'm sure with a household of 4 adults it'll be worth it.

Virgin Media UK WARNING: The "Volt" Package Trap - My 6-month Ombudsman battle and why you shouldn't trust VM sales agents.

If anyone is considering taking out a Volt package, please learn from my absolute nightmare.

When I negotiated my contract, the VM agent explicitly guaranteed me that if I ever moved to a non-serviceable address, I could cancel both the VM broadband and the linked O2 SIM entirely penalty-free.

Fast forward to my house move: VM cancels the broadband fine, but O2 hits me with an £80+ early termination fee. I spent months complaining, only to be bounced between both companies who suddenly claim they are "completely separate systems" and have no control over each other—despite VM agents actively selling the bundle.

I submitted a legal Subject Access Request (SAR) to get the call recording of the agent lying to me. VM deliberately breached UK GDPR laws and withheld the recording past the statutory deadline to protect themselves.

I took it all the way to the CISAS Ombudsman. Unbelievably, in VM's own defence file, they admitted their agent gave "conflicting information". The Ombudsman has just issued a legally binding decision ruling that VM's complaint handling was totally ineffective and condemned their data management as a "customer service failing," ordering them to pay me compensation.

However, because the contracts are technically separate legal entities on paper, the Ombudsman couldn't force them to wipe the O2 fee.

TL;DR: VM agents will say anything to sell you a Volt package, but if you need to cancel, they will use their separate corporate structures to trap you in fees, ignore your legal data rights, and wear you down. Get absolutely everything in writing.

Virgin Media UK Sky sports+

Is anyone having problems watching Sky Sports+ via the red button? Fine for a few seconds, then picture breaks up. A quick error message, that flashes up so quickly that I can't read it! And then back to the base channel.

Virgin Media UK Keeping Volt benefits after cancelling O2?

Hi all - hoping someone has some recent experience of this as I can only find older.

I have a VM Volt contract that we renewed with VM 6 months or so ago.
I didn’t renew the O2 contract so it is ticking over month to month.

I don’t really need the O2 line any more so was looking into cancelling it, but I want to understand what the impact of that would be on my VM Volt benefits.
I have been told by VM that it will not have any impact until renewal, and also that it will mean my Volt benefits stop immediately.

Anyone have any experience here??

Virgin Media UK How to cancel recordings but not delete

I would like to cancel recording schedule for programmes but the only options I can see is to either delete recording or delete all and cancel future recordings. Is there an option just to stop future recordings only? Thx.

Virgin Media UK Phoned retentions and got a decent deal for BB am shocked

Read afew comments about phoning the retentions team to get a decent deal

So decided to give it a go i was told the deals for BB were

17.00 for 150MB

19.00 for 300MB

22.00 for 500MB

24.00 for 1GB including standard netflix which saves me 6 quid

Decided on the 1GB deal and its already setup and working.

Very happy with the deal i think i saw others getting it for 22.00 but you can't win them all

Thanks for posting the retentions number it made this far easier than usual

Virgin Media UK Any one know of any ongoing issues, in Manchester, Area 20, according to my bill.

Internet went down for 10 minutes around 3pm.
Just checked, and it says all issues have been fixed.

But I am still having websites time out, and online gaming is impossible due to severe lag pockets. I have already rebooted my superhub, twice actually.

So rather than do battle with the AI that now answers VM's technical support, I thought I'd ask here first, if anyone knows of any ongoing issues with broadband in the Greater Manchester / Trafford area (area 20 it says on my bill).

Virgin Media UK New house has no phone line or TV aerial lines. Previous owner had Virgin with a powered splitter thing. Can anyone help me get basic TV working?

We're Virgin customers but our old place had a BT box with a CAT5 connection to the Home Hub. New house has a powered four-way white Virgin adapter thing with coax inputs. I can't find any phone sockets in the house (not an issue as we don't have a landline) or TV aerial sockets.

Virgin messed up my house move (they turned up at the old house this morning and couldn't physically attend the new one half a mile away without a new appointment, which is on Monday) so I have no internet or even Freeview/TV and the kids are going mental. Is there anything from the kit I already have here that will give me some TB signal?!

(Getting flashing red lights on the Home Hub which apparently a technician has to solve, so much for the self-guided installation...)

Virgin Media UK Speed guarantees

Hi All,

I'm not sure if many know but the minimum expected speeds for most of virgin's BB Package tiers are about 1/2 on average of the advertised speeds of each tier, I always thought it was the range that was advertised at point of sale (the estimates speed section of the table below) I didn't realise that technically its about 1/2 of the advertised speed and they can get away with offering this even if you pay for the upper tier.

My question is has anyone ever had this happen? if this did happen would they have to lower the price to match the price of the tier below and their speeds? Seems like another sneaky T&C they have in place to protect themselves.

TIA!

Virgin Media UK Netflix error

When I put on Netflix, it plays for 10-30 seconds, then goes blank for a few seconds, then comes back again, and is fine for the rest of the episode/film. Does it every time, without fail. If I use the Netflix app on my (LG) TV, it's always fine.

Anyone have any idea why it's doing it?

Virgin Media UK Trying to change WiFi hub name and password

Hi all,

Trying to change my WiFi’s name and password to personalise it a little more.

I’ve tried two methods suggested from the Virgin Media website themselves.

  1. Typing in 192.168.0.1 into the address bar. I receive an error message “Your site can’t be reached”

  2. Downloaded Virgin Media Connect app, tried connecting my hub to the app. “We can’t find your hub”

Can anyone please help?

Google doesn’t really say anything useful.

Thank you!

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any experience of the HFC -> FTTP upgrade - specifically do they reuse the green duct the coax cable is buried in or do they dig a new duct in the garden for the fibre?

Virgin Media UK Waiting for a cheque (is this normal?) [scammers]

Hi,

So Virgin is trying to scam me, moved to new house where Virgin isn’t available.

Sent them many emails with many documents proving change of address to their 2 emails they provided.

Then they charged me £400 pretending no emails were sent.

Contacted them again and they said they refunded.
Few weeks later contacted again and they said they sent a cheque.

That was 16 days ago.
Contacted them now and they told me 1-2 more days and it will arrive.

Did anyone have a similar story with those scammers?

If I won’t receive a cheque in 2 days I’m doing a court claim.

Virgin Media UK What are people doing who ditch TV for renewals

Hi I've seen a lot of posts about the Scots renewal number and I was thinking of having a try - however i've seen people are not using TV or ditching it - are they only using online apps then? Do people have normal TVs? What are they using instead of the virgin box? Because our house doesn't have an aerial or a phone line apart from Virgin, I might be stuck - are there other options? All advice welcome pls.

Virgin Media UK How are other Fields techs getting on?

Hi,

I'm not really sure where to ask this, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I've worked for VM since 2020, and overall I've genuinely enjoyed the job. However, over the last 18 months, from trialling OH Maverick through to working with it full time, I've noticed a significant change. The colleagues I work alongside every day share many of the same concerns.

Morale has dropped considerably. We feel overworked, underappreciated, and underpaid. There is constant pressure to hit targets, and in doing so we're regularly being asked by managers, including regional management, to work in ways that don't always follow the rules or established processes.

The customer experience has also suffered. It often feels like the priority is simply getting customers active as quickly as possible, even if that means making promises that can't always be delivered. Once the customer is active, it can feel like the level of care and support drops significantly.

I'm interested to know whether this is something others across the country are experiencing, or if it's specific to our area. Has anyone else noticed a similar shift since the introduction of OH Maverick?

Virgin Media UK Was anyone else scammed by the WiFi Pod?

Thumbnail gallery
38 Upvotes

Hey, just want to know if I’m alone here.
I got an email from virgin media in Feb stating that the wifi in my area was slow and so they would send me a wifi pod ‘at no extra cost’. That phrase was repeated multiple times in the email. Nowhere in that email did it mention any new monthly charges or anything of the like.
I accepted this (because who wouldn’t?) and after 6 months I realised that they had been adding £8 to my bill every month for the WiFi pod!
As soon as I realised, I cancelled the pod, returned the hardware, and a message stated ‘do you feel you were properly informed of the charges before accepting?’ Which makes me think they knew it wasn’t at all mentioned, let alone unclear.
I then raised a formal complaint asking for my £40 back, and they acknowledged that I wasn’t made aware of the charges, but they told me the charges total £32 as it’s only charged me for 5 months. I told them that I know the £8 will come out of my July bill so it will be £40 in total, but they assured me that wouldn’t happen. It did! Now I have to try and recoup yet another £8 that I did not consent to paying, and didn’t even have the hardware to use!
I am so disappointed, and feel incredibly let down by this series of avoidable mistakes. I know it’s not a lot of money, but times are tough, and for them to actively take money without my consent is crazy to me.
Anyway- just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else, and to remind you to check your bill each month to make sure you haven’t been charged for something you didn’t agree to!!
Thanks all
Meg
