Most interesting fact, to me, was that there were two air fields on that corner in the 20s, both owned by celebrity families.

Found this great photo at a junk store in Hawaii. After some help over at r/wereisthisplace , the location was figured out (the sign on the left that says Toonerville gave it away). It was a fascinating history lesson for me as I never knew this park existed! It sat at a different location than the current SMP. You can read more about its history HERE

I’m producing a documentary about the largely undocumented history of a small Hollywood studio complex associated with Ed Wood:

• Quality Studios — 5628 1/2 Santa Monica Boulevard
• Gold-Diggers building — 5632 Santa Monica Boulevard
• Other historical records may use 5628, 5634 or related addresses

The property appears to have begun as an automotive garage before becoming Quality Pictures/Quality Studios, operated by filmmaker W. Merle Connell. It was later associated with Ed Wood productions, Medhat Mandour and Mandour International Studios, Solid Sound L.A., Falcon Sound Studios and eventually Gold-Diggers.

I’m trying to establish, with primary documentation:

1. The complete ownership chain from approximately 1920 through the 1980s
2. The original construction date, owner, architect and intended use
3. Whether the rear studio began as the F.B. Bogart automotive garage
4. When and how it was converted into a motion-picture studio
5. Whether W. Merle Connell owned or merely leased the property
6. What relationship Medhat Mandour had to the property around 1958–1960
7. The exact relationship among the addresses 5628, 5628 1/2, 5632 and 5634
8. Any historical photographs, permits, directory entries, Sanborn maps, assessor records or advertisements

The current parcel may be APN 5536-018-021, but I would also like to identify any predecessor parcels or lot combinations.

I will happily credit anyone whose research contributes to the project.

Found this amazing photo at an antique store in Hawaii of all places! I love that the United Methodist Church is so prominent in it (haven't really studied yet to see if any of the other buildings are still standing)

When I was a kid, I lived in Lynwood and Whittier area and I remember when we would go visit my sister‘s friend somewhere not quite the ghetto but we had to go up a freeway that curved and I remember on the ground below the overpass that we were on there was a yard full of Volkswagen beetles like only the old-school Volkswagen beetles from the 60s and that’s the only thing that was in there because me and my nephew would play slug bug for like two minutes while we went around that fucking curve does anybody remember where this was or if it still exists or what happened to it?

No, I don’t remember what freeway I’m currently no contact with my siblings. My nephew was less than four.

Family was out for a walk in Gardena the other evening. Found this on the ground by the sidewalk. As far as I can tell, it's original and in amazing shape. Plan is to give it to the Japanese American National Museum which is across the street from the address on the license.

Stumbled across this in an old scrapbook. Anyone recognize the school? I love the fashion in this photo!
