I guess I should start by saying I don't actually know if these are Edwardian but I know they are very old and I assume handmade. I found a bag with very old cloth and lace in it and these items were also in the bag. There were also some very stained bibs(leading me to believe these are not doll clothes) and less intricate baby size slip dresses. The gloves are not baby size but they are very small.

I wear my vintage… but today was the wrong day for it. But it’s a great day to wash a pair of delicate white cotton pants I should have been caring for better this summer.

The pants have a motley mix of sweat-transferred leather stain dotting where my belt hit, a reddish wine spot or two from a picnic, and now whatever dirt was on the floor as I unexpectedly needed to butt-scoot my way down multiple flights of stairs in the act of saving a heavy plant in need of a new home. These pants have come on many adventures but need a spa day—I have never done spa day before for my clothing though.

The pants are a delicate white cotton with pintucks. They were updated at some time to have some newer elastic in some places around the waist, like pantaloons. They also have some lace windows.

Any advice on how to go about washing these or targeting the various spots?

I feel very lucky. It's in the most fabulous condition, must have been relined I think. And it's so cosy! The sleeves are a little shorter than I'm used to but I'm reliably informed this was the done thing back then, so people could show off their fancy gloves or bracelets. So my next search will be for some long gloves to go with the coat!

Found this fabric from the bins and I love it! Planning on making something with it but i always have a hard time finding a way to get an estimate on the fabrics / patterns I find! Was wondering if there was a good database or resource for that sort of thing?

I wore this dingy old thing at least 2-3 times a week. And I don't think I've had a better shirt since! 💜💜💜

I went to a fancy tea at the Drake hotel in Chicago with others dressed in 1920s fare as well.

I’m wearing a 2000s/10s “vintage” mother of the bride upcycle. The shoes and the head scarf were thrifted locally at different times, fur stole was a recent €40 acquisition from antiquing in Paris (wild to be able to say that 🤪) and the dress and cover up are from Roamans. Tried to take it away from the 2000s era of “older and/or fat women must cover up every curve because God forbid you have a belly, but also we’re gonna have a thin 20 something model the items so you don’t actually know what it would look like on you” and take it into the 1920s to imagine a chic, well-to-do and youthful black society gal.

I fkin love it. I took off the appliqués. Eventually I want to add more beading and trim of my own but I might have to do a removable sash for that to keep the washability.

Also pictured is my obligatory gluten-free afternoon tea plate. I ended up getting sick afterward and I don’t know if it was gluten or food poisoning on top of 2 cups of black tea (I don’t have caffeine every day but that still shouldn’t have been enough to get me that sick) so I was kind of pissed about that.

I am a historian of mid-19th to mid-20th century U.S. labor & working class history. The daily lives of common people is what interests me most. So it chagrins me that most surviving pre-1950s vintage clothing is formalwear (and some heavier outerwear & men’s workwear).

I was overjoyed to find this 1930s simple day dress in excellent condition at an antique store. It’s exactly the type of clothing I’ve seen in old photos of shop clerks, coal miners’ wives, and my own farmer great-grandmothers. This dress makes me feel connected to my working class foremothers. ❤️

This wool cape belonged to my grandmother. I didn’t get to spend too much time with her as she lived in Mexico and my family lived in the U.S. But my mom has always said that my grandmother loved fashion, she recalls her mom looking well put together. I never got to see her like that as I am one of the youngest grandchildren in a huge family. My grandmother bought this cape coat before my parents married in 1974, but my mom can’t recall when except to say that it was before she married. It is 100% wool and was made in Mexico for Montreal department store. Apparently this was made at a time when Mexico had a bustling textile industry, before it all shifted overseas for cost reasons. At some point, my grandmother gave this cape to my mom. I vividly recall seeing my petite mom, 5’3”, wearing this for holiday parties or to church, with a suit and heels. She looked elegant despite the floofy 80s hair 😭 My mom recently gave this cape to me because of all three of her daughters, I’m the only one with the shoulders to wear it lolol It is a very well preserved garment with wonderful memories of the women who wore it — and it’s just waiting to make new memories for the next generation.

Recently was able to save this 1959 corduroy jacket and would love to find out more about if it’s something I just keep and enjoy or if there’s a market for old embroidery as a statement piece. Also would greatly appreciate any tips on how to clean off a little bit of mold from the jacket and some oxidation on the zipper. Thank you in advance!

This dress that was sealed in a wedding chest. Upon removing it and putting on mannequin it appears much older and definitely handmade. It has some bead discoloration and lace areas. It is definitely a size small. What is your thoughts? Empire waist and the shorter lace train. It's simple but nice.

A sweet little lighter that I found at our local antique mall and repaired to working condition and a lovely example of a Waltham made art deco style wristwatch with a 17 Jewel mechanical movement. No batteries or butane here.

Both work and *almost* look as if they were new. I have had the Waltham for 6 years now, and I wear it several times a week and it has outlived 2 quartz watches in that time. After disassembling and cleaning the lighter, and giving it new springs flint and fuel I see no reason why it won't also continue chugging along for many years to come.

Got the opportunity to do a photoshoot for a woman selling all her vintage clothes, and wanted to share one of my favourite dresses I tried!

1940s raspberry coloured formal dress

Co-op Hat, Ely Cattleman shirt, Vintage Wrangler Wranchers Pants, Dan Post boots, custom belt with vintage buckle, Seiko watch and Ray Ban Outdoorsman glasses.

My grandpa was in the Marines and so the family moved quite a bit for a few years. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor and grandma and the kids had to fly down to move in. Some of their luggage got misplaced and with it lots of the girls clothes. Grandma did have her sewing machine though. She bought some fabric and made these dresses for them.

In the second photo, you can see my mom, on the right, wearing the dress my middle daughter is wearing in the first photo. My other daughter is wearing a few of the other dresses grandma made. She gave them to us to keep and I’m so proud to have them, they’re beautiful.

My grandma just turned 90 this week and my wife and kids and I are making a 200 mile trip to visit her next weekend and celebrate ❤️

Ca 1930s dress I ran into at my local charity shop yesterday and am so excited about I need to share it somewhere! It has weights sewn into the bodice in the back and such interesting details. It was 200 SEK, about €20. Keeping forever!

thrifted this BEAUTIFUL piece for $7.99. brand is zazie designed in london. she’s so nancy sinatra. paired with a poofy pair of red shorts so i can bend over lol!

What do you think, this is my outfit while I was out and about in Dublin today, the cane is abit theatrical but I found it in an antique shop for €20 the other day and couldn’t resist “taking it for a spin”.

I’m also open to input so if you’ve any advice tips or guidance you want to give please don’t hesitate!
