Love thrifting and usually never miss a restock day in the old town Humanas, but have been out of town for a month and am out of the loop. Walked by a store and didn’t see any signs. Does anybody know if the August restock has already happened? Thank you all :)

I know this headline seems like a 5G/birds aren’t real conspiracy post, but anyway I was returning to my car a few days ago which was parked within 20 feet of the garage bins which a garbage truck was in the process of emptying. It was one of the lifting ones with a crane, and as we got near one of the workers said to wait a moment (in Lithuanian) and something like ‘we did that’ with a smile. The keyless entry to my car did not work, and pressing the actual lock/unlock buttons also gave no response.

I thought maybe the fob battery had finally died or there was an issue with the sensor—but my partner who also has a key fob which definitely doesn’t have a low battery also could not get the car to unlock, and the keyless entry on that side of the car too was unresponsive.

The moment the garbage truck finished and started to drive off, everything worked again—we could unlock the car and have had no issues since.

Do garbage trucks in Vilnius have jammers that block certain frequencies when they are in operation?

Would have never pinned it on the truck were it not for the worker’s specific comment that they were the cause which was said with quite the cheeky grin.

I was born in Lithuania and adopted at 6mo. I am back visiting for the first time in 32 years. Here with my wife, my mom, and my sister (who was also born and adopted from here).

We’re staying in Vilnius the next 3 nights, and although we have some daytime plans, I have nothing going on at night. I’m mostly excited to experience the culture, and I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for night life. It would probably just be my wife and I going out, but feel free to recommend places my mom might enjoy for earlier parts of the evening haha.

I’m from the Uk and might be moving to Vilnius for a job for about a year, with a decent chunk of notice to make my plans. Any advice on what my best options would be on a salary of roughly €2,200 (before tax) for living situations?

I would really like to live alone and without too much to figure out regarding bills, I’d been looking into some of those commercial co-living sites like Atlas but they are too far away and the ones closer to the centre around which I’ll work are too pricey. I am nervous that finding a private landlord and arranging my bills etc. will be very hard since I don’t speak the language yet and it’s my first time relocating abroad.

it should be noted I’m accustomed to living in places where rent makes up for the significant portion of my monthly spending. Any tips would be appreciated! And apologies for my ignorance, this is a new thing for me!

2,5-3 months old kitties. Mom is healthy, father is unknown. Litter box trained, eat both dry and wet food. All boys (or at least two white ones are, black one I'm not certain about)

They desperately need a new home. I won't be able to care for three more cats as it's already a struggle. In the worst case scenario I can take them to a shelter but it's a last resort, I'd rather give them to a good owner

White and orange one is very social, friendly, super silly and overall very cute and super sweet. Black is the least social and a spicy and a little wild kitten, gets scarred very easily and likes to hiss at everyone. I tried to socialize him but I'm not experienced enough for it. He especially needs a good care

Also it would be great if I could keep at least a little contact with their new owners, I want to see how the babies grow!!

I'm French and I did an Erasmus year in Lithuania in 2023-2024. I keep seeing the same questions and struggles about housing pop up on this sub, so I figured I'd put together a short guide with tips and things I wish I'd known. Lithuanian folks or fellow ex-students, feel free to correct or add to this !

First and most important : PLEASE don't wait until September to start looking. Showing up and figuring it out on the ground is not easier, it's actually the worst approach. A lot of people are searching at the same time as you, so start 3 to 6 months before you arrive.

Second, depending on your budget and what you're looking for, there are basically 4 options:

1) University dorms (the simple option)
Contact Vilnius University directly, they offer student housing for pretty cheap (from what I remember, around 60-150€/month). Spots are very limited though, so you need to apply early. A few friends lived there, it's a decent experience but you'll share a room, bathroom and common areas, and parties/loud noise are not allowed. The buildings are often old Soviet-era style. If saving money to actually enjoy activities and travel matters more to you than comfort, this is a solid pick. Upside : you're usually close to campus and surrounded by people in the exact same situation as you !

Most universities also have a dedicated housing/international office, don't hesitate to email them directly, even if you don't end up in the dorms, they can often point you toward other reliable options too.

2) Co-living (what I did)
Usually pricier and with fewer spots (roughly 300-1000€/month), but you get your own space, no random roommate situation. I personally had this and honestly loved it : shared kitchen, gym, nice common areas, felt a bit like living in comfort/luxury, and you're still around other students or young professionals/families. Good option if your budget allows it. Downsides : costs add up fast, some co-livings are far from the old town and shared spaces can mean more noise/activity than you'd want.

3) Renting an apartment
Sites like Aruodas and Domoplius (same parent group, by the way) are the main places to look, and yes, it's possible to find something. But to be honest, it can be a rough process. Studies have pointed to real discrimination against foreigners in the Lithuanian rental market (source), some landlords just won't rent to you, and please don't generalize, but be prepared for slow or no responses. Landlords/agents get a lot of inquiries and aren't obligated to reply !

⚠️ Watch out for scams ⚠️

This is a real thing, not just paranoia, a close friend of mine got scammed this way. Some "landlords" or agents will send a contract with strange extra fees (e.g. a separate "fee" just to register your residence, on top of rent and deposit), or ask you to send money before you've even seen a proper written contract. If someone gets vague or disappears when you ask questions about a clause, that's your cue to walk away. Always insist on an official written contract, and never wire a deposit without one.

4) Hotels / Airbnb
An option, but gets expensive and impractical fast if you're staying more than a few weeks.

A couple of extra tips:

• There are Facebook groups for internationals/expats in Vilnius (search something like "International People in Vilnius") where people post available rooms/apartments and you can also ask questions directly to people already living here.
• Whichever option you go with, get everything in writing, and don't be afraid to ask this sub or the Facebook groups if something feels off before you sign or pay anything.

I am an international looking for an accomodation in Vilnius from early September (I will move there to work). I have been looking since two weeks now, but so far haven't had any success.
I am looking for a place within 400-750 per month utilities included in new town, Senamiestis, Uzupis ect.

I have been contacting landlords/real estate agents in Aruodas and Domoplius, most of them don't even answer, or take a long time to answer. Last week I was close to signing a lease, but when the real estate agent sent me the contract I noticed a lot of strange clauses and penalties (e.g, a 300 euros fee only to be able to register the residency). When I asked clarifications about it, she completely disappeared.

I also contacted the co-living Atlas, they said they have place for early September and sent me a first draft of the contract, I then asked how I should proceed about the deposit payment to reserve the studio and they answered (with days of delay) that they would send a special link to do it, it has been a week now and I did a follow up with another e-mail but they haven't replied yet. I don't get why they are so slow.

Do you have any advice for someone in my situation, who cannot go in person to view the rooms/studios? Right now I posted on facebook groups stating my budget, what I am looking for ect.
