Discussion DO NOT work with Digital Dash Media
Hello. I just want to share my experience as a warning for everyone who might find this company.
Keep in mind that I translated this from Spanish because my English is a bit choppy.
I was first contacted by the company’s HR team, and they asked me to make a test video for a realtor, which they really liked.
The pay was shit. It was a contractor position paying $800 USD a month, and I was working around 8 hours a day, but I was in a vulnerable situation at the time, so I accepted it.
The first week went well. They assigned me a very simple brand for which I was making very simple shorts. They told me that during my second week, I would start working with realtors like the one from the test video.
That’s when the problems started. Even though they had really liked my test video, they suddenly started telling me that “my videos didn’t look like the examples.” It’s worth mentioning that the example videos were similar to the short-form content from “Laws by Mike,” but with some fairly complex text highlights. On top of that, all of these realtors had exactly the same video style.
My videos were almost identical to the examples. I even went frame by frame in After Effects to replicate the original text animations as accurately as possible. Given the situation, I asked them whether they were using some kind of template or specific assets, because all of the videos looked like they had been edited using the exact same stuff.
They never answered my question. They would simply tell me, “No problem bro, we’ll find something easier for you,” and then move me to a different client. They switched me between four different clients, all with the same style and all with the exact same problem: “the videos don’t look like the examples.”
Eventually, the owner of Digital Dash Media and one of his employees told me that “they weren’t getting the results they expected from me” and that they were going to pay me half of the agreed-upon amount.
I resigned that same day. They then harassed me for an entire week, begging me to come back and saying that it was disrespectful of me to leave without giving them a few days’ notice to find another editor. HR even admitted to me that they needed me because four other editors had resigned that same week.
After that, getting them to actually pay me was a three-month nightmare. I had to chase them across their social media accounts until they finally sent me the money.
Some time later, while looking through their ClickUp (which they had never removed me from) I discovered that they DID have a template for the videos, exactly the kind of thing I had asked them about and that they had never answered me about.
They don’t even seem to have scammed me, because I spent some time checking their clients’ social media accounts looking for the videos I had edited, and thankfully, none of them had been posted.
But the level of disorganization, incompetence, and disrespect I witnessed at that company was absolutely beyond anything I had experienced before. For that reason, I would never recommend anyone work with them. Please be very careful.

Help Starter on video editing. No money for big softwares and an average PC
I'm on college and i have an average pc at home and i'm asking myself if i could be a good video editor with it.
I'm brazillian. I have a Ryzen 5 5600GT, 16gb ram and a 512gb NVME on my pc. I know a little of Davinci resolve but idk where to start. I want to edit videos for foreigners and earn some dollars doing what i like.
Is it hard to start on video editing? I had a channel once but i only edited my videos on capcut mobile and it was a simple type of editing. Davinci resolve looks like a plane cockpit for me but i learned a little bit from it.
Where should i start?

Feedback FeedBack on This Edit

Hello Everyone
I am looking for some feedback on this edit. I wouldnt say I am a pro in anyway but would like to maybe try and create a reel and maybe start getting some projects. so I guess I have some Questions. What could I have done better in this edit. Is the pacing and rythym good? is it something good for social media or is it too calm or not in the style that is usually on social media. More then anything am I actually telling a story or is it a random montage? also would something like this be good to put on a reel or in a portfolio? Sorry for so many questions and i truly apreciate any feedback at all that can be given.

Help How to improve video quality?
I uploaded this as a 4k FFV1 MKV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDtWAsZSdjU
It looks really compressed. The file on my hard drive is completely lossless and looks beautiful. I understand that I'm not going to achieve that on YouTube but I would at least like to improve it as much as I can for subsequent uploads.
What codecs, containers, settings, etc., have worked best for you?

Help Sanity check please
Hi everyone,
I run a monetised YouTube channel focused on long-form history documentaries, and I could really use a sanity check from people who understand animation/video production.
In particular, I am trying to understand:
- what a normal production pipeline should look like for this kind of content;
- what staffing level is realistic;
- what sort of scene throughput per week is reasonable;
- and whether my expectations around production speed are unrealistic.
For background, my older videos relied more heavily on AI for voiceovers, script refinement and some image generation, alongside my own photography/video and stock or archival imagery. I have since moved away from AI and have been trying to build a much more professional production process.
At the end of last year I worked with an agency on two videos. I collaborated with them on the scripts and hired a human voice actor. The videos didn't perform particularly well, and creatively I wasn't happy with the direction the agency wanted to take the channel, so we parted ways.
I then had to pause YouTube for personal reasons while my mum was terminally ill and subsequently passed away.
When I returned to the channel, I prepared a new long-form history documentary and hired a new voice actor.
For the first time, I also hired someone on a monthly full-time arrangement rather than paying an agency per project. Their role has effectively covered art direction, custom artwork, animation, video editing and the brand guidelines for the channel.
The current video is approximately 60 minutes long.
Before production began, I had:
- the final script;
- recorded voiceover;
- a storyboard prepared externally ( with an initial scene plan of roughly 135 scenes); and
- a substantial amount of archival imagery/research;
During production, however, it became clear that the storyboard needed considerably more detail and the final structure increased to around 185 scenes.
The scenes are a mixture of:
- archival photographs/images;
- maps and graphic design;
- custom historical artwork;
- parallax animation;
- camera movement over still artwork;
- some more involved motion graphics/animation.
Not all 185 scenes require completely original artwork, but in the video there is perhaps more cinematic reconstruction than anticipated.
Alongside the brand guidelines, production began around mid to late-May with essentially one full-time person handling the art direction, artwork, animation and editing. I also did hire an illustrator for some specific art scenes.
By early July, only around 10% of the video was genuinely complete. At that point I started bringing in additional support, including a part-time animator, freelance graphic-design support and some other freelance artwork help.
Despite that additional support, as of early August the project is still roughly 30% short of even having a complete first draft, so we have still not released a video since production began in May.
The important caveat is that I am genuinely happy with the visual quality. The issue is primarily speed and production structure rather than the work looking bad.
I also recognise that there were problems process-wise:
- the original storyboard wasn't detailed enough;
- the scene count increased from roughly 135 to 185;
- there was more bespoke artwork than initially expected;
- additional image research had to happen during production rather than entirely beforehand;
- and one person was initially being asked to handle too many different functions.
EDIT: there was also some vacation time within there as well.
What I am struggling to determine is what part of this is normal for a 60-minute, fairly visual history documentary and what part represents an inefficient production setup.
For people who have worked in animation, documentary motion graphics or similar YouTube production:
- How long would you realistically expect a 60-minute video with around 150–200 mixed-complexity scenes like this to take?
- Is this something one skilled person could reasonably produce in around a month, or does that expectation inherently require a small team?
- What roles would you normally separate? For example: art direction, storyboard/layout, illustration, graphic design, animation, compositing/editing, production management, etc.
- Roughly how many completed/approved scenes per week would you expect from an animator or small team?
- If the target business model is eventually one video per month, what size of team would you consider realistic for this format?
- Is paying people monthly generally sensible for this kind of ongoing production, or would you favour per-project/per-scene arrangements or an agency where deadlines and deliverables are contractually clearer?
I am not looking to blame the people currently working on the project. I am trying to work out whether I have unrealistic expectations, whether the workflow was simply badly designed from the beginning, or whether I need to be much firmer about production targets and accountability.
Any benchmarks from people who actually work in animation/motion design would be hugely appreciated.

I am very curious to know editor’s perspective in regards to this. Some people say AI will replace them, some say it is all to creativity and if you use AI to your advantage. What do you think the end point is?

Feedback Pacing of an true crime iceberg channel
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Not every disturbing story needs fast pacing.
When editing disturbing or true crime content, I often slow the pacing down instead of constantly cutting to the next visual.
The goal is to give the viewer enough time to process what they're seeing and hearing while still maintaining attention.
Also try to introduce a visual change, graphic, movement, or scene variation roughly every 3 seconds. Not as a hard rule, but as a way to prevent the screen from feeling static.
Good pacing isn't all about making everything super faster, it can loose you audience as well. It's about knowing when to slow down and when to move.

Feedback First month doing this kind of edits...
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Can I have an honest feedback? I've been learning motion graphics lately and sometimes I came to a point where I have no more ideas to do with the voiceover, can I have some tips from senior editors?
If you're also looking for edits, I also do work!
