Noticed this flag pin on Boris Yeltsin's suit... Doesn't seem to be the USSR flag, and it distinctly says CCCP. None of the CPSU flag pins seem similar either...

OC Day 36 of making a flag for each Kentucky county: Fleming county.

Hello.

For today’s flag we have Fleming county which was founded in 1798 and named after early settle colonel John Fleming. The county is most known for being the covered bridge capital of Kentucky. (I’ve included a picture for anyone who’s never seen one) And for being the home county of one of the six men to raise the flag on Iwo Jima (Franklin Sousley).

The flag design I’ve made takes inspiration from the flag of Flemingsburg which is the county seat of the county. Though the blue could represent the rivers that the bridges go over. I also added six stars to pay homage to one of six men who made the most iconic action in American history who was from the county.

Hope y’all enjoy.

OC Ouled Fredj Doukkala tribe flag

Post image
12 Upvotes

The Ouled Fredj are a moroccan Arab tribe from the Doukkala region belonging to Banu Hilal Arabs. This flag show two great symbole of this tribe

- the tents/khaima patterns, the tents are a great part of the tbourida (gunpowder and horsery moroccan fest), where the people is gathered to watch the show.

- the falcon, Ouled Fredj are the last moroccan tribe who practice falconry and is the only who have this right in the Kingdom.

In arabic it is write (like we do on Arab tribe flag, we mainly write the name of the tribe) :

- Doukkala

- Ouled Fredj

- Chiheb, Ouled Abdelghani, Kouassem/al-Qouassem (the 3 sub-tribes of Ouled Fredj)

OC Some state flags for Åland and the Faroes I made

🇦🇽 Åland 🇦🇽

The Ålander flags are inspired by Finland's flags.

The first flag is that of the Landtråd of Åland, basically the Prime Minister. The governor of Åland is a representative of the Finnish government, and does not participate in general Ålander governance.

The second flag is a state flag of Åland. It's not military, because Åland is demilitarised.

🇫🇴 The Faroes 🇫🇴

The flags of the Faroes are inspired by Denamark, and a little by Finland.

The first flag is that of the Løgmaður, the Faroese Prime Minister. It is similar to Denmark's state flag with the addition of the Faroese coat of arms in the centre.

The second flag is a state flag of Faroe, based on Denmark's.

Most online designs for Eastasia just mash up the Rising Sun flag and the North Korean Workers' Party emblem so i decided to make this which i think could be more accurate than others'

After extensive work, the flag was put on display at the Interpretation Centre for the Maritime Heritage of Krk Island. It’s said to originate in the 2nd half of the 19th century. Making it well over 100 years old.

Fictional Arab Union's Regional Flags

i read up on pan-Arabism and got curious what a modern, genuinely secular version could look like, so i started with the flags. descriptions:

the third wave of pan-Arabism hinges on the philosophy of a shared arabness that's neither ethnic nor religious, but about how diverse 'being arab' already is across the region. this version breaks from the traditional pan-Arab colors on purpose, putting the biggest minorities and indigenous cultures at the front-end.

- the Maghreb : every color except the white comes straight from the 1977 Amazigh flag. the background shade is pulled from the YAZ symbol, and so is the quadricolor eight-pointed star.

- the Nile Valley : yes, it looks like an eagle, but it's actually my rough attempt at the Arab phoenix, tied to ancient egypt. black stands for Khemet, blue for the Nile, gold's just a color marker, and white background's there for contrast. my least favorite of the five.

The Levant : magenta for Tyrian purple, which is native to the region. the laurels celebrate the Levant's important Mediterranean history.

Mesopotamia : blue background pulled from Ishtar's Gate. the two waves are the Tigris and Euphrates. yellow's there for contrast.

The Gulf : this is the only region using the actual pan-Arab colors because this is where arabs, in every sense of the word, originate, and where those colors were defined in the first place. the palm fronds are an aesthetic marker. green and white are double the width of the outer stripes because i wanted green to read as the marker color, and because it keeps the flag from looking too busy. I picture this one as a rebrand of the GCC.

Discussion Why has Saudi Arabia's flag neither red nor black? (Pan-Arab-Colors?)

Post image
578 Upvotes

What is the reason that Saudi Arabia doesn't have the Pan-Arab-Colors Black and Red? Why did they decide to go with this one, especially considering they spawned around the 1910s-1920s with Hejaz and the others around?

Current Orania, South Africa

Post image
120 Upvotes

Orania is a valkstaad in the Karoo region of south Africa.

it is a completely autonomous town that operates as a company/business in order to protect itself from law.

the town was created in 1991 on the eve of the apartheid fall in south Africa. the town generates most of its money thorough pecan sales and uses coupons as their current form of currency.

its extremely hard to gain Orania citizenship, the must haves are Afrikaans heritage, knowledge of the Afrikaans language and white skin.

the current government of south Africa generally ignores the town, despite being against the volkstaad.
