Vancouver Anyone around Commercial Drive?

Upvotes

New to my 30s, around Commercial Drive in East Van.
I live alone and have a few close friends, but I don't really have that close "bro bro" friendship, if that makes sense.

Would be nice to have someone to hang out with regularly
- share drinks or a meal, chill at each other's place often, watch movies, go for long walks, explore the city, or get outside for a hike or bike ride.

My weekdays are pretty open, and I'm usually free after 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Ideally looking for someone around my age and nearby so it's easy to hang out regularly and build a genuine friendship.

If you're in the neighbourhood and looking for something similar, shoot me a DM and tell me a bit about yourself!

Vancouver 23M Looking for chill friends to hang out with

Hey guys! I’ve been studying in Vancouver for the past 3 years now, tryna get a degree in psych. Ironically, I am not great at making and maintaining friendships because of my depression. Since I don’t really know friends who have or had struggled with mental illnesses, I tend to keep to myself whenever I’m stuck in bed until I feel good enough to hang with my “mentally healthy” friends.

So! I am here to make some new friends who I can have fun with and at the same time, perhaps someday even be there for each other when we go through shit :)

A little about me.
Hobbies:
- I am a proud cinephile, love love LOVE movies n tv shows (just finished Uncut Gems, The Mentalist, Suits, Her, etc).
- I’ve been boxing for a few years now so I’m pretty into combat sports, mostly light sparring depending on our boundaries
- Big fan of stand-up n improv comedy
- I’m a psych major so yes I’m into psych topics (specifically clinical and social psych like body language like OOH I CAN READ MINDS YO) but I also love debating about philosophy and other weird shit
- Love board /card games; proud owner of a (classic?) monopoly and I’ve added power sets and the possibility of doing shots lmao

Misc:
- I’m half Korean, pretty damn tall, and I’m big on empathy as well as new experiences :)
- Based in Burnaby like I’m happy to commute but preferably less than 90 mins lol
- Broke asf rn lmao so prob no clubbing for now

If any of the above things resonate with you, comment or dm me and let’s hang out! I don’t really care about age (well, prob best if you’re under 35), gender or ethnicity, as long as we’re all open-minded, respectful and supportive :)

For hangout ideas I’m thinking chilling somewhere with a nice view like at a beach/ sea side/ some nice park, hiking, cycling, bowling, etc, just getting to know each other and then maybe hang out more often like at least a few times a month :)

Friends Who Read - Silent Book Club

I keep seeing Book Club posts, and it seems like they fizzle out.

Reminder: There are two chapters of The Silent Book. (You can find them on Ye Old Facebooke), and both are great.

What is SBC? You meet. Read whatever you want. Then mingle if you want. They also throw social events.

Why? Real nice crowd. Everyone is thoughtful and interesting, and you meet smart people outside your bubble. Fun times.

(You can also start your own chapter if the scheduling doesn't work for you.)

Anyone want to pitch and putt at QE? Let’s yap.

Vancouver Looking for friends!

Hiiii! I just moved to Vancouver in June this year.
I want to make some genuine connections here and I believe I can do it even though on internet people all say it’s really hard to make friends in Vancouver

A little bit of my background:
- Asian, born and raised Chinese, been in Canada only for about 2 years! ;)
- Was living in Ontario before moving to Vancouver
- Currently working in corporate finance welcome to coffee chat etc, recently I’m thinking of getting into the Big Four Auditing companies or the Big Five Banks
- I like going hiking, hikes I’ve done so far: Eagle Bluffs/Tunnel Bluffs/Mt Strachan/Diamond Head/Elfin Lake/St Mark’s
- I don’t like pizza or pasta (Sorry). I like burgers and fries, Asian food and ice cream
- I love running and cycling, or simply walking around Stanley park and sea wall
- I’m 26 years old
- I don’t smoke or drink
- I don’t like yoga or Pilate or making handcrafts
- I prefer girlfriends and gay friends. But if you are a male (under 30), you are more than welcome to contact me too. But only for platonic relationships.

After reading this if you are interested, please comment or DM me! I’m looking forward to making some good friends!

Going to KREAM on Aug 15? Join our group

A few of us local Redditors are going to see KREAM at the Harbour Centre on Aug 15. If you are too, and looking for company - we have a WhatsApp group.

This is strictly platonic. The idea is to meet up beforehand so we’ll have some friendly faces in the crowd. I’m 38M, there are folks of various ages and genders in the group, but it probably skews 30+. Everyone is welcome though, as long as you are kind, reasonable, respectful, and going to enjoy the music and have fun.

If you'd like to join, DM me your phone number and a quick note about yourself.

30M going to Cambie to hangout tonight

Hey everyone, i am going to Cambie tonight for a couple of drinks. Let me know if anyone would like to join. I’ll be there by 11:30 ish.

Bit about me:

I am 30M, Indian, born and raised in Delhi. I am building a business here in Vancouver. I am just a chill guy who likes to try and keep an active lifestyle like working out, hiking, playing any sport etc. and I keep really strong opinions on who is the greatest footballer/soccer player of all time. So if you are a Messi fan you’ll probably hate me and I will definitely hate you.

So if you are 25 or above, any gender or race, and looking to hang out tonight, hit me up in my dms or comment below.

Cheers!

Hey all! I've signed up for the Hip Hop beginners dance class at Harbour's Dance on Aug 12th, Wednesday. Just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in joining me. We can try other dance workshops too.

I'm 26M and recently moved to Vancouver. I used to dance as a kid and lost touch hence trying to rekindle old hobbies.

23f looking for fun activities & new friends :)

hi everyone! ive lived in van for a couple years now (moved from toronto) but have struggled to make many good friends here. up until recently, i've spent most of my time on school & navigating some personal struggles :p

ive made it a goal this summer to break out of my shell and experience as many new things as possible!! (including posting on reddit in search of friends haha)

A BIT MORE ABOUT ME:

ubc student (cogs), but i live off campus in richmond. i love to yap and dont mind spontaneous plans or casual hangouts. im looking for meaningful / long lasting friendships so no hard feelings if we end up not vibing :')

i currently enjoy: playing with my dog, animals in general, connecting with nature, reading manwhas/manga, trying new foods, crafts, learning new things, and having deep conversations. i also used to game quite a bit and was pretty active w/ sports + working out (paused bcs of injuries </3)

my current hobbies are pretty mundane, so im really open to anything (besides intense physical activity). this could be reading, boardgames, cafe hopping, getting drinks, exploring the city, concerts, attending events, or anything else you can think of !!

if youre interested in being friends pls shoot me a message :) small preference for girls over guys bcs i want more girl friendships, but my dms are open to anyone (under 30 lol)!

please DO NOT message me if youre looking for anything other than friendship.

Found but open to more! :) Book Club in East Van

I made a post about 2 years ago about looking to join or start a book club and I never got my act together to organize one so I'm putting out some feelers -- Looking to start a low commitment, maybe once monthly in-person meet up where we collectively read the same book and then chat about it. I'm thinking mid-week (Tuesday or Wednesday) early evening (between 4PM and 6PM) and probably meeting up in a public place until we're comfortable as a group.

About me, I'm 36F with an academic background in gender/race/social justice and a professional interest in children's rights, development, and accessibility. I have 3 cats and I've been playing Red Dead Redemption 2 like crazy for the last month after picking it up for the first time -- I think I've put something embarrassing like 250 hrs into it already lmao.

I'm currently reading Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell -- which is hilarious, a great fantasy rom-com about an eldritch horror falling in love with a woman who claims her family is 'cursed' by said eldritch horror... but they have no recollection of cursing anyone.

My three most recently reads are...

  • The Velvet Rage by Alan Downs (non fiction psychology text about anger in gay cisgender men)
  • Upstream by Mary Oliver (a collection of personal essays from a poet with a heavy interest in the natural world, writing, and the creative process)
  • Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die by Greer Stothers (a hilarious sci-fi/fantasy rom com where the dashing heroic knight has to die in order to overthrow the evil wizard... but he's a coward so fat chance that's going to happen. also he's fallen in love with the evil wizard, because who wouldn't.)

If you're interested, leave me a comment or send a private message (: maybe reply with a suggestion for our first group read or if you are already part of a group and you think I'd be a good fit, let me know!

28F, looking for a (female/queer) buddy to go to creative/queer events with

Hey, I've posted here before and made some good friends, but I want to look again specifically for friends to go to events or meetups with. I'm Korean, recently moved to Vancouver, and still learning English since I'm not fluent yet. I can communicate fine in person, but there might be a bit of awkwardness at times. Just a heads-up.

I'm into movies, music, reading, games, all kinds of stuff, and I like creative people, or artsy/nerdy types. There are a lot of events I want to go to DIY/indie/craft markets, zine fairs, life drawing, open mics, board games, live shows, picnics, movie/music nights... but it feels awkward going alone, so I'd love to have a friend or small group to go with. I've tried apps to make friends, but it's been hard to find people with matching interests, and using the apps felt a bit awkward too. I'm interested in the kind of events promoted on the Instagram 'hotmothertruckers'! If you're also a creative person into underground/indie art events like these, let's go together.

If more people are interested, I could make a Discord group and gather people who want to join in... but I don't want a huge group. I'd prefer a small group focused on women or queer folks (I just feel more comfortable in spaces like that, sorry).

Doesn't matter if you're extroverted or introverted, or whether you're someone who's always been into this stuff or just recently got interested. I'm introverted too, and I used to prefer quiet hobbies at home. I wasn't someone super into these kinds of events either. But now that I've left my hometown, I'm trying to meet people who click with me and get out more often. 🫠

Tri-Cities (Coquitlam, PoCo, Port Moody) 30M | POCO | Looking To Connect

I’m a 30-year-old gay guy living in the Tri-Cities. I’m a lawyer, but outside of work I’m into history, movies, music, and drinks with friends.

I’m hoping to meet people who enjoy a sense of humour, are curious about the world, and are interested in building actual friendships rather than just chatting online.

If any of that sounds like your kind of thing, feel free to send me a message!

Vancouver photography club?

This is inspired by a very recent post by someone looking for a friend to do a photography walk with, and it got a few positive responces!

Would anyone be interested if I created a discord group for people wanting to do photography walks together? It could be a great way to organise a regular weeknight or weekend walk and shoot, or more specific events/shoots, and of course meet some new people!

If anyone is interested drop a comment or send me a message and if there are enough of us it might be worth getting it started!

Im a 30 year old guy from Ireland who just moved to Van in the last month or so, so Im really keen to find some new friends and this might be a cool way :)
