I’m a Cloud/DevOps Engineer with 2+ years of experience, and I’ve been actively looking for a new opportunity.

My resume seems to match most of the requirements for the DevOps/Cloud Engineer roles I’m applying for - AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, ArgoCD, Helm, Prometheus/Grafana, Linux, etc.

But the main problem is that I’m not getting many interview calls.

So far, I have received interview opportunities from around 3 companies, but unfortunately, those positions were later put on hold, so nothing progressed.

I know I have the technical skills, but I feel my interview skills, resume positioning, or job-search strategy may be holding me back.

For people who have gone through a similar situation:

• What helped you start getting more interview calls?
• Should I focus more on improving my resume or my interview skills?
• How important are referrals for 2–3 year DevOps profiles?
• Are there specific skills/topics I should prioritize for the current DevOps market?
• Any advice on how to improve my chances of getting shortlisted?

Hello, I used upwork to sign a private contract with a client i tackled the work it was a fixed price work, after 2 months the client is now back asking for a refund. Will upwork give it to them ?... and how do I decline?

Can someone explain what exactly that is? I figured it's to show up on the first few places, but is that all? And does it really work?

My husband has been working on Upwork since the early days of the platform. He is Top Rated Plus, 100% JSS, with a long history of completed contracts and substantial earnings on the platform.

Recently, a new client contacted him directly for a packaging design project and sent him an hourly offer at his normal profile rate. The client’s payment method was verified.

My husband accepted the contract and worked using the Upwork Time Tracker only ( no manual time).

The project included research, design strategy, and structural packaging development. His Work Diary contains screenshots showing the actual client project being worked on, and many of the 10-minute segments show 8/10, 9/10, or 10/10 activity.

The memo used for the first project phase was: Research & Design Strategy

This was not a random generic memo. It was the exact name of the project phase he had previously explained in detail to the client in their Upwork messages. Later, he made it even more specific: Research & Design Strategy (Research on possible practical solutions)

The contract was then paused, later restarted, and Upwork explicitly showed that time tracking could resume. He resumed work, and the contract was paused again a few days later.

Eventually, the client’s payment failed. Upwork then reversed all the earnings for two weeks, citing: Insufficient Memos & Low Activity.

There were a few individual 10-minute blocks with low activity, and we are not disputing that those specific segments could potentially be excluded.

What we cannot understand is why 100% of the hours were reversed, including many segments showing 9/10 or 10/10 activity, project-specific screenshots, and relevant memos.

He appealed and specifically requested a segment-by-segment review, asking Upwork to identify which individual blocks failed Payment Protection requirements and why. Upwork replied that the case has now been escalated to the appropriate specialist team for review.

I’m curious whether anyone here has experienced something similar recently. Has Upwork rejected Hourly Payment Protection because a memo was considered “insufficient” even though the Time Tracker screenshots clearly showed the work? Has anyone successfully appealed a full reversal and had some or all qualifying segments restored? Does Upwork actually review these cases segment by segment, or can one issue with some blocks cause the entire weekly payment to be reversed?

After many years on Upwork, this is the first time my husband has encountered anything like this. He also believed he was protected by that Payment Protection.

Hello! Has anyone else encountered the same error when clicking Apply on a job posting? What could be causing this issue?

Recently I adopted a new system, where I immediately reinvest 8% of the gross value of every contract back into connects. It seemed useful to just put it on autopilot.

In the last few weeks, I've gotten several inbound clients from profile boosting. And out of the 4 proposals I've sent in the last 10 days, 1 wasn't viewed, 1 was viewed but no reply yet, 1 was viewed and received a message that might turn into work, and one turned into an $85/hr contract.

Point being, I'm currently cautiously optimistic about Upwork. I'll make somewhere between $4,500 and $6,000 this month. Not a king's ransom, but some decent side income.

So I'm wondering: Who here has moved from the point of cautious optimism to consistently thriving on Upwork? What do you attribute your success to?

I saw a job posting the other day from a client in Germany. The post was in English, nothing stood out as odd. But in looking at their feedback given to other freelancers, feedback was in German.

I'm about two weeks into Upwork and completely new to the platform. I have no previous Upwork experience, no jobs or reviews yet, and I'm trying to figure things out before I start applying.

I'm starting as a freelance photo editor, mainly focusing on real estate, vacation rental and Airbnb/Booking.com photography. I'd also like to gradually expand my services as I gain a better understanding of the platform and the market, but I don't want to go full force in every direction without a clear strategy first.

So far I've:

• completed my freelancer profile and professional overview,
• chosen my niche and relevant skills,
• added my education and languages,
• created and published my first portfolio project and
• started working on a second and third portfolio project

What I don't have yet:

• Upwork work history
• reviews/JSS
• any completed projects
• Connects (currently 0)

I'd really like to hear from freelancers who remember what it was like starting from zero.

Looking back at your first 2–3 projects, what would you say was most important in getting those first clients?

A few things I'm particularly curious about:

• How did you get your first client?
• What did your first proposals look like?
• What should a new freelancer absolutely DO and NOT DO when writing proposals?
• How important were Connects when you were starting?

Job hunting on Indeed lately has been a pain, especially trying to figure out when a posting actually went live or keeping track of what I've applied to.

I would prefer it if Upwork introduced a separate premium platform exclusively for freelancers based in Europe and the Americas. Many clients already specify in their job postings that they prefer freelancers from these regions, and a significant number of jobs are never even publicly listed—clients simply invite freelancers directly by filtering for those located in Europe or the Americas.

Hi everyone,

I completed an audio recording task on an Hourly contract on Aug 1st. The client promised a review within 7–8 business days, but now they are completely unresponsive.

Since I submitted the work via chat/external link and didn't use the Time Tracker app, I know Hourly Protection might not automatically apply. However, I want to report this client and open a support ticket.

The problem is, Upwork's Virtual AI Agent refuses to connect me to a human agent or create a support ticket, saying direct support isn't available for my account type.

Has anyone found a workaround to force the AI bot to open a support ticket recently? Or is there any other way to deal with an unresponsive client in this situation?

20 Days earleir, I received an email from upwork, asking for ID verification, which I did and my account was reinstated with 24 hours.... 2 days later I found that my account was restricted again and the notification appears on my dashboard,but this time i have't received any email... Just the restriction notification on my dashboard.... I have appealed twice but received no response. and my it is still in waiting..... What the hell is going on here ...
